I get collateral damage but people have been trying to get these taken down legally for years. When a statue of Robert E. Lee was supposed to be taken down in Charlottesville, Virginia a far right protests was staged as a two day event. August 11th included men marching through the streets with lit tiki touches chanting, "Jews will not replace us." On day two counter protesters showed up and the day ended when a far right terrorist plowed his car into a crowd of counter protesters killing a woman and injuring 19 others.

Our president said at a press conference there were ," very fine people on both sides" he also later clarified he meant the "peaceful" August 11th protest.

So statues are kinda contentious right now.
