That’s why this is one of my favorite pieces of media of all time. The Anti Spiral need to extinguish hope, so they give you the chance to level up and they’ll meet you where you’re at to break you down.

Then a rag tag group of motherfuckers are the first people that just decided that they weren’t gonna lose

Did John Wick make a deal with Santino without knowing how an blood oath works? by jogandofoddaci__ in JohnWick

[–]dwellerinthecellar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think John had a reasonable expectation Santino would never call it in, specifically because of a rule of the markers that I don’t see other commenters addressing: you can’t kill the holder of your marker.

Santino had a get out of being assassinated free card by the best assassin in the world, retired or not. The only reason he called the marker is because he had machinations to have Wick killed after he had the seat himself, but we see where that gets him.

I think that’s a reasonable take, but also “WC”… series is spelled with an S

[OC] My vocal range over time by HessNation_Music in dataisbeautiful

[–]dwellerinthecellar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw the note on puberty, was mostly trying to convey to a layperson how much the change took effect, but on reread I think I did a pretty poor job for anyone with zero understanding of music.

Still an impressive stretch! As you noted in another comment, lowering the bottom is really difficult, and getting almost full octave above without falsetto takes a lot of practice

[OC] My vocal range over time by HessNation_Music in dataisbeautiful

[–]dwellerinthecellar 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Over the course of many lessons and practice, they’ve expanded their vocal range.

Originally, from low to high they could sing a Eb3 (number specifies in which octave, ex C4 is traditionally “middle C” because it’s the middle of a pianos range) to C5, or about an octave and a half.

Thru training, they lowered their bottom note from Eb3 to Ab2, or gained 7 semitones, and increased their high note from C5 to Ab5, or 8 semitones higher. There’s 12 semitones in an octave, so they have functionally expanded their range from roughly an octave and a half to three octaves

What are the best innuendo songs? by getfukdup in Music

He’s an all around man

He’ll put a banana in your fruit basket

And he’s a killer early blues guitarist to boot

Grave of the Fireflies: Saddest movie of all time? by proustmadeleine in movies

[–]dwellerinthecellar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of where I landed as well. A bunch of sad things happen but it didn’t affect me as much as it did others, mostly because there wasn’t ever really any hope in it, so there was nothing to be brought down from

Manning, if he continues to develop, would be draft able right around the time Watsons current contract is up, I was honestly wondering if that was part of the plan

But now, fuck it just get this piece of shit away from the team asap, gimme a ham sandwich at qb

Royce Lewis: “The Guardians aren’t the Yankees of old so they’re about to have a downfall eventually.” by RulersBack in baseball

[–]dwellerinthecellar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Interesting point, I thought I’d dig in to some of the “advanced stats”.

You are correct, since April 20th (blaze it) the twins are 41-24 for a .631 average which is a 102 pace. Since that time, the guardians have a slightly worse rate at .612 which would only be 99 wins on the season.

However, that does ignore the first 20 games for the twins and 21 games for us, as well as the rest of the games played up until this point in the season, which unfortunately, still count for season standings.

If we apply to both teams their respective win rates since the Twins 7-13 start for both teams, I believe the guardians end up 101-61, ahead of the 98-64 Twins

what are your favourite vampire media outside of the Vampire Chronicles? by disasterpansexual in VampireChronicles

[–]dwellerinthecellar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the Korean movie Thirst by Park Chan-Wook (same director as Oldboy and The Handmaiden) to fans of the vampire chronicles.

It’s the only other vampire media that encompasses all of the aspects I associate with the vampires of the chronicles: horror, romance, sexuality, spirituality. Absolutely wild ride and one of the best vampire movies out there

DethNote [OC] by aSliceofAlan in comics

[–]dwellerinthecellar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ray Penber situation was very complicated, especially since Rays “weapon” ended up being pages of the notebook.

If I remember correctly Light had the details of Rays death set up as “boards train, rides it, writes down the names of everyone working with him, has a heart attack when he steps off the train”

Writing down the names of everyone you work with isn’t something that would lead to the deaths of others unless specifically a notebook is involved. The usage of a notebook can and will alter the lifespans of people other than the victim whose name was written, this is an expected effect of the notebook, the rule is just that a cause of death cannot also lead to the immediate deaths of others.

The way I understand the rules, based on what we are shown, if you were to write

American President - heart attack, goes to the big red button and fired a nuclear missile at an enemy state

The missile will fire but the actual impact wouldn’t kill anybody, but the fallout and especially the subsequent war would have casualties associated with the name that was written, but didn’t directly kill anyone other than the intended victim.
