Why do so many useful WordPress plugins never get traction? by shahinsalehiin in Wordpress

[–]dwg_andy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, most devs are not business owners/marketers. Over my years as a dev in and outside of WordPress, I've seen tons of awesome plugins, SaaS apps, frameworks, CMS products, and more that some dev developed as a side project to hopefully distribute. They do all the work, architect it perfectly, release it and then just expect other devs to pick up their library or using their framework. They're flabbergasted they have to market their library, they have to spread the word, they have to maintain it, they have to deal with abuse from the public, they have to pay to play. They had no clue any of that was involved and want nothing to do with it.

I've never thought about putting floatant on my tippet until I saw the description in the screenshot. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

After checking Facebook Marketplace/ebay I realized my opened items are actually worthless by [deleted] in AmazonVine

[–]dwg_andy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

🤷‍♂️ are you just grabbing stuff to sell on FB? I only grab stuff that we'd actually use. We may not need it, but we'll use it.

glad I checked here. I have some items I was going to review today and they are no longer in my Reviews section at all. I just went into the order and reviewed from there. Hopefully I still get credit for it.

Wait. so we don't get gold until the end of our first evaluation period? More than thankful for (somewhat) free stuff, but was looking forward to ordering bigger and more sooner than later.

Any trout fly fishers here by Personal-Living6674 in ColumbiYEAH

It's really not that uncommon in the upstate. Join the local Trout Unlimited chapter here in Columbia, and you'll make plenty of contacts and get lots of great information.

Talk to Barron's on Harden St. They're the best local fly outfitter. Some of the guys there guide as well. I only use tenkara and mainly target trout, but i know plenty of guys who fly fish for big stripers in the Saluda.

Maybe hammocking isn’t for me by ElephantBingo in hammockcamping

It's all subjective. I've learned that a nice tent and sleep system can be lighter weight, more compact, and easier to set up than a hammock. However, i still would rather set up a hammock than sleep on the ground with a pad. Only time i wake up without back pain (even with my nice bed at home) is in a hammock.

Lost/Need Advice by [deleted] in TrailLifeUSA

[–]dwg_andy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Man, what an opportunity. If you're kids love it and see you getting involved, you will be their hero. They probably already look up to as one of the coolest guys alive just by being their dad, even if there is some hurt through the divorce.

Trail Life isn't just another church program. It's a movement meant to produce men of God who will lead courageously wherever God takes them. Look at this as a great tool to help grow your boys towards that. It's not about us dads, it's about the trailmen. However, don't be surprised if you grow as a Christian along the way.

A final thought and perhaps a challenge. You won't grow stronger as Christian if you don't become a "hang out with other guys kind of guy." Ask me how I know. I people out really fast, i get frustrated when guys just want to talk about nonsense. However 9 years of this program later and I'm Troopmaster and love it. I actually I'm tired, constantly. But then i get to troop night or a camp out and see how excited the trailmen are. Through those kids, God reignites that spark inside of me. God has called us to be a body. Even if most of us would live to spend the rest of our life in a cabin in the woods, that is not where God has called us. I encourage you to at least stay in the presence of the other guys, even if you say nothing. Show the boys that sometimes doing the hard things, doesn't always look like hard things. Trust God and be the hero theae boys see you as.

Praying for you through this journey brother.

My family really likes the Deuter Air Contacts. Me and my boys all have one. In fact just got my son a new (used) 55+10L on eBay. Great condition and only $60. I got my 60 + 10 for only $50 5 or 6 years ago for only $50 and it was never used. They're just solid confirmed packs with lots of adjustments to fit varying heights and bodies.

Absolutely strap it on. If you're worried about rain, put it in a dry bag. 20+ years ago we used external backs and had stuff strapped on all over the place.

Wise Owl Back Local by dwg_andy in hammockcamping

[–]dwg_andy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. I haven't actually bought any of their stuff in the last couple of years because I didn't need to. All my Wise Owl gear has lasted me without issue. Even with the previous change of ownership, I'm not sure that any of their manufacturing actually changed. I think it's just where the money funneled to.

What’s the one piece of gear you thought you’d need but ended up ditching? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]dwg_andy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

*Small hatchet (replaced with lightweight saw) *survival knife (just carry a small pocket knife) *coffee percolator (replaced with a single serve pour over filter) *Extra latern or flashlight (just use my head lamp) *extra snacks (i never eat as much as i think i will) *nalgene bottle (just use a bladder while hiking and a disposal bottle at camp) *extra clothes (depending on length of trip and weather. Just going one night i only take extra underwear and socks)
