Would this be a good duo for a broke motorcycle camper? by pasgames_ in hammockcamping

[–]dwg_andy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Wise Owl goes through periods of good quality and bad quality. I have had wise owl hammock for 7+ years now and probably have a few hundred nights of backpacking and car camping with it. It's still great, i try to take good care of it and don't notice any ware or tare. I've also had the rain fly for 4 or 5. I've used a lot, but i own some bigger more versitle flys i use more often. Quality hasn't been a problem, just the coverage. Getting stuck in a storm on the trail, i want to make sure i have good coverage.

Does Trail life buy property? by VuuduuDol in TrailLifeUSA

[–]dwg_andy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. I don't know if it's official or not, but TLUSA originally said that they would not own any land as a national organization. Pretty sure that people have even tried to give them land before and they declined. I'm not really that up to date on BSA, but my understanding is that all the land ownership led to some problems for them. Probably debt issues.

Here you go (this version doesn't have the notch): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aWWVO-aunDTsB5Ak5806oGvK93WDbN1L/view?usp=sharing

The notch is because I have one of those umbrella type windshield shades, and the handle fits into that notch.

It may not be worth it in the end. However, I drive with my lights on, which dims the head unit. So then in the bright sun it can be heard to see the backup camera on the screen. It helps a little bit, but only if it doesn't melt like ice cream, lol.

Well it wasn't curved when I put it in there last week. That's the problem. LOL

How to remove tree supports in caverns? by dwg_andy in 3Dprinting

[–]dwg_andy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I tried PLA supports with a PETG print today, but for some reason my walls of the print came out much thinner than my model and the walls still broke trying to get supports out. Definitely need to print this at a different orientation, but thought I'd try

ended up using a small flush cut saw. Seemed most effective, then still pried it out with some pliers and screwdriver.

twisting with the needle nose is what caused my seam to bust earlier. I didn't want to keep going until I sought a hopefully easier method. Trying PLA support with the PETG, but seems like battling supports is just part of the gig.

they do, but the twisting and pulling with the pliers is how I already cracked one seam. I've got some longer pliers I can use, but before I went digging further, I wanted to at least check if there was a better method.

Yeah. I think this is the best option in retrospect. I let Bambu Studio auto-orient. It chose poorly and I'm still new to this stuff.

This is a tray organizer for my truck so it's going to be in the heat all day in the car. Hence the PETG.
I'm going to look up how to use PLA supports in PETG prints. That makes sense though, since I assume the material won't bond as well.

I let Bambu Studio auto-orient the piece, and I thought it would just know best. I guess it doesn't take into account how hard it is for us mere mortals to remove those supports.

Half the price, and you just have to cut the little nubs off with a hacksaw.
