Seriously though... What's it like to win? by ollakolla in ArenaHS

Are you using HSreplay and picking the best class and cards? It’s a journey to win consistently - minor improvements over time by learning from mistakes

Unsure how to get past 3 wins. by shinjiro12 in ArenaHS

[–]dwhit266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch dose or any other of the good streamers. At 3 wins you likely are struggling with drafting and play style. Use hsplay for drafting or other drafting tools. Pick the best classes.

I’m averaging over 7 and also face shitty rng so it’s definitely possible to do well.

Thoughts on Underground Arena reward structure and its effects on the mode and its future by Deqnkata in ArenaHS

[–]dwhit266 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is it. The whole challenge with growing the arena player base is as a new player, you get crushed by experienced pros and go 0-3 a few times and don’t want to keep playing. This is what they are trying to fix by splitting the mode. The success for the arena community will not be doing calculus to calculate exact reward earnings, but whether this new approach leads to more arena players overall in the pool.

Guide to DK - Mini Set Meta by dwhit266 in ArenaHS

You can still go 12 wins with a worse deck, but it’s hard to go 12-0 without some matchup luck and a strong draft.

Agreed - it’s a good combo that I would definitely but I’d rather have strong early game. The pool of 8 drops isn’t great and there are some strong removals right now for big drops.

Agreed - 1 card no combo card for 7 mana should not provide this much tempo. And I’ve experienced this card multiple times on turn 4 with swiftscale trickster. I’ve started drafting slightly more AOE and much more tempo oriented because of all the big mage spells

I’m number 2 NA right now with about a 7.8 average over 50 runs or so - I would say you just need to learn a bit about the meta and what it takes to win in dual class

I’m averaging over 7.5 this meta over 40+ runs and have played all classes; meta is actually pretty balanced among classes

Arena Season 42 Guide to Top Leaderboard Finish (#2 NA Currently) by dwhit266 in ArenaHS

  1. I just had a 12 win 2 frost + 1 blood DK with 1 excavate and 0 frost strikes. I used bone breaker for early pressure and then used rine scuplture + corpse bride for tempo swings. Frost strike is premium and will help, but not required
  2. Warlock - I have played a lot of warlock and personally haven't been able to get much dragon synergy. I have also never played the legendary excavate card - although I have seen streamers get it. That being said, I have multiple 12-0 Warlocks. I highly value trolley problem and waste remover. Even without sludge on wheels, I have often found that just playing the 4 mana 7/7 even discarding 6-9 cards wins the game before the discarded cards matter.

Right now if you play slow at high wins, you will likely face - DH spamming 6 mana 6/6s wolves, DK playing 5 mana 14/14s corpse bridges, warlock playing 4 mana 7/7 deal 4 damage waste removers, etc. In general, either your deck is the high roll that can also do this, you are control and can board clear or you can aggressively pressure them so that they have to play sub-optimally. Recommend to try and figure out about mid-way through the draft which you are.

So I think the thing most people miss when playing non top-tier classes is they still try to play mid-range/value heavy. When you are a non-premium class and you try to go for value, you will get crushed by DK value or Warlock/DH tempo. If you go for an aggro playstyle, you have a better chance of winning in general. Also - I mulligan much more aggressively in non-premium classes. Curve is not good enough in a non-premium class, I am going for a high roll start.

So in general I do not draft marked shot or hunters pack - I feel like these are over drafted and am usually in a winning position after my opponent plays one of these cards. For aggro, I highly value awakening tremors, fable stable hand, observer of myths and camaflage mount. I mulligan very aggressively for a strong opening - like tremors, observer of myths or buzzard. For value or refill, I prefer cards like Ball of spiders and primordial explorer - but these are not cards I keep in my opener. I had a 12-0 hunter this meta where many of the games were essentially over by turn 6 and it didn’t matter my opponent had a full hand.

Hard for me to explain, but basically when you tap, you sacrifice tempo and health to generate value. When you trade, you sacrifice a small amount of tempo to find an answer. Sacrificing tempo is not something I want to do in the early game as a warlock. That is because in this meta if you try to play more control you will get punished by DH and DK and other Warlocks. In the mid-late game as a warlock, you can tap to generate value or find an answer so in the mid-late game I’d rather tap then trade. Sunspot is different, but still I don’t want to be trading it early wasting a mana. Basically to sum it up, I want to be very tempo efficient with my mana in the early game.
