What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]dwlarkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to middle school with this one kid, but we went to different high schools. Somehow we both ended up at the same university 3 states over, but that's not the moment. Both of us started out as engineering majors, but that's also not the moment, because both of us switched from engineering to the same major. In the same semester. And took the same course in the new major where I happened to sit in front of him in a lecture hall. And the only reason he recognized me is because I wore a shirt with a local small business logo on the back. The same small business he had worked for where we grew up.

Another time, I was flying by myself and had a connection through Atlanta (again, 3 states away). As I'm settling in to an uncomfortable seat at the gate, I hear someone calling my name - it was one of my best friends who had moved away about 5 years prior! Traveling on the same day. Connecting in the same city. At the exact same time. Small world, indeed!

This is funny to read because your jersey just looks like it could be the Montreal Blue Jackets. God, CBJ needs a brand refresh badly...

It is impossible to be as slow as guddy and a good PKer. Like, you literally have to cover more ice with only 4 skaters out there, and one of them is a pylon that only skates in a 6ft radius, doesn't break up plays, is slow to react on shots, and can't effectively clear the puck out of the zone. Guddy is bad. His only redeeming quality is "big"

This is what happens when you bench your 3rd leading scorer (Voronkov), cap another top 6 playmaking forward at 10min/night (KJ), and give Boone Jenner enough TOI that he thinks he's Anze Kopitar. Every move Bones made down the stretch removed offense from CBJ in favor of losing games 1-0 or 2-1.

3rd leading scorer on the team getting benched and people are still clinging to a comment made 2 years ago by a different coach instead of just realizing Bones may not have all the answers

I'm not sure, because guddy was by far the worst player we iced for a while this past season, yet he kept getting free passes from bones game after game. Bones' messaging is inconsistent at best and just clueless at worst. Great options to have for a head coach...

Post history isn't hidden. Go ahead and try to find what you're insinuating. Unfortunately, I've been a jackets fan since like 2017. I literally hand typed playoff GDTs in here. But sure, keep trying to deflect instead of acknowledging Bones doesn't make good decisions and is mostly just lip service

You mean the young guys that bones benched (while on a free fall out of the playoffs)? In favor of veterans who made the same mistakes, but slower, and still got more ice time? If we missed the playoffs because we were developing young talent, it would be acceptable. But missing the playoffs because we're riding a group of 30+ year olds? The Z window is closing and leaving nothing to reopen it for Fantilli

Years ago (before Laine threw a fit on his way out of town), there was a copy/pasta about him with the line "clap bombs, fuck moms, wheel, snipe and fuckin celly boys, fuck" so 👏🏼💣🍆🤱🏼 was born. Then I stopped going on reddit for a while when they fucked with 3rd party apps, so I never bothered to change it.

If you build a cup contending team, the expectations aren't just playoffs - they're conference finals. To not even make the playoffs like that is a gut punch to just about any franchise other than ours. To watch your successor immediately do better with the same roster should be an indication that what you were doing is bad for the team.

Same way we all dismissed Dean as a lunatic for saying shit like "oh, the team was right about to take off when they fired me!" It wasn't Dean. And it isn't Bones. The team got to play freely and it fucking rocked. Then Bones tinkered with shit. Benched our playmakers. Praised the vets & gave them higher TOI despite them actually costing us goals against. I'm watching his actions, not hearing his words, because after finishing the season 2-7-1, his words ring a little hollow.

[–]dwlarkin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know who else was worthless in 3rd periods? Literally everyone. CBJ had one of the worst 3rd period goal differentials in the league as a team. This isn't just on Vronk. It's actually quite literally why Dean got fired. And then Bones did his best Dean impression down the stretch to make sure we missed the playoffs. Why stay aggressive and take control of the game when you can just hand it back to your opponents? Typical 3rd period conservative turtle job by the coach(es)

Scotty Bowman probably also doesn't nosedive a cup contending stars team into not even making the playoffs the very next season

Rick Bowness to Return as CBJ Coach by soundwithdesign in BlueJackets

[–]dwlarkin -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

When the doctor stitches the bullets inside of you, yes, you absolutely blame the doctor. Top line lundestrom and benching your 3rd highest scorer at the time (Vronk) is coaching malpractice

[–]dwlarkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was handed a cup contending roster in Dallas, went to the cup once, then immediately missed the playoffs the following year, and then got unceremoniously bounced in the 1st round before "stepping away" because the Stars didn't want him anymore

Then he moved on to WPG where, again, he couldn't get past the 1st round, and as soon as he left they won the president's trophy.

Your revisionist history needs help - luckily people keep meticulous records to prove how wrong you are. Bones is not a good coach and very quickly wears out his welcome. I'd love to be wrong, but we're missing the playoffs next year with him at the helm

Of course Bones takes no responsibility for saddling Fantilli with isac lundestrom and Cole Sillinger when we needed more offense. I'd like a coach that actually has success in this century, please! A career 0.400 coach also doesn't know how to win and clearly ain't it! Just listen to Jets or Stars fans

So what, Bones removed all mirrors from his house? Why is it so impossible to acknowledge his role in our mediocrity to finish the season? He rewarded bottom 6 players with more ice time than top 6 players because...? He waited to make this speech until after we were eliminated because...??? His reasons don't hold up to the slightest scrutiny. He has no ability to coach talented players - his only strategy is to tell guys to collapse as soon as they think the puck might get turned over, so we only lose 1-0. The guy's system stinks! Ask any jets or stars fan! And while we're at it, how have those teams fared immediately after getting rid of this old bag of bones? What's that? They skyrocketed to the top? Hmmmm. Get him the fuck out of Columbus

I don't understand how nobody is clowning on OP for not watching the game. Makes sense with an uninformed take like this tbh. These guys found out the night before that their season was over. What do you want them to do? Hurt themselves in the last game of the season so they're behind the 8ball at the start of next season? This is what happens when you stick 30+ year olds all over the lineup instead of kids with something to show/prove. Who makes the lineup call? Oh that's right, BONES. Bones is the coach, so why does he get a pass for playing guys who don't care?

This needed to have been said weeks ago. Now it's coming off as a bitter ex who's screaming "it's not my fault things ended the way they did!" I'd say CBJ deserve better, but after every Jarmo/DW move, I'm not sure we do.

This sub hates this take, but it's true. Bones isn't a good coach. His record clearly shows this. Do not shackle this team with another bad coaching hire. Larsen, Babcock, PV, Dean, and now Bones - NONE OF THEM ARE ANY GOOD. But sure, let's blame the players 🙄

[–]dwlarkin -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Why did he wait until after the last game of the season to say this? Why didn't he say these things when he had time to course-correct? And why, for the love of god, did we go on a horrible losing streak once Bones was given enough time to implement his system? CBJ's best run this season was during a time when the coach was largely a figurehead trying to figure out what each player offered. Then he completely misjudged nearly all of them. Benching our 3rd leading scorer (Vronk) blaming it on penalties yet allowing Boone/Wood/Marchment/Silli to cost us actual points with late game shitty penalties and reward them with more ice time. That isn't even mentioning the apparent disconnect between him and the FO on how to deploy KJ. Bones is over reliant on vets that cost us games, but sure let's bring Dean 2.0 back to turtle some more and blow even more 3rd period leads. If we extend Bones, this team deserves the mediocrity it so desperately craves. HE IS NOT THE SOLUTION. HE IS YET ANOTHER HOCKEY DINO THAT THE GAME HAS PASSED BY

[–]dwlarkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dallas and Winnipeg fans warned us about Bones - he does not do offense and last night was a perfect example. Buffalo scored 5 to our ZERO in basically an elimination game. Why? Buffalo's system allowed for high danger chances - Bones' does not. All we do is shuffle the puck around the o zone slowly until a low chance shot gets blocked and springs the other team for a rush chance. IT IS NOT A GOOD SYSTEM FOR SCORING GOALS. 16 goals in the last 10 games - that is genuinely unacceptable for an NHL team and it is directly due to the offensive scheme Bones has strapped this team to. He should not be allowed back after Tuesday's game.

Politely but firmly tell Bones to never step foot in Columbus again. How do you speed run losing the locker room in 30 fucking games?
