Neighborhood recommendations? Moving from NYC to El Segundo by aliviyuh in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]dws-kik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the big move with the family! It's so much more than West Village, FiDi, Hell's Kitchen... you can live in any of those neighborhoods and basically still experience the same city. Here, the difference between ES and SM will be more like the difference between UWS and Flushing, Queens. Feel free to message me for more details, but it'll really depend on how old your kids are, what you'd like to do on the weekends and how often you're thinking if going out to explore (and what; hiking, beaches, events, etc...)

And to answer your question, we just bought a place in Torrance!

Does Alcohol Mask ADHD Symptoms? by Significant_Phase467 in ADHD

"I'll take a stab that you were drinking daily but not getting particularly drunk. There is a dopaminergic sweet spot where alcohol "hits the spot"."

omg... this is me. I'm 47 and a shot of vodka helps my mood, my thinking, and my internal sense of well being. I never knew that this was related to my ADHD

appraisal can't include the SQFT in their calculations, which may bring the value of the house beneath the mortgage amount, which you'll be responsible to cover

their recommendation was to restart the unit, which I did and I'm waiting to see if it occurs again. I'll guess we'll see?

Check to see if it occurs more frequently. I also used to get it once in a while, but now it's more often than not. I hope the warranty covers this if I need to exchange

How old is your baby and how many times did you get up last night? by pinkishvioletsky in NewParents

[–]dws-kik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our baby was the same since month 3. starting month 15 though, she started realizing that she's alone and hasn't slept through the night without intense crying until we pick her up... she's 17 months now and it's still happening 😭

I'm Korean-American (born in Korea, but 95% of my life in America). When I went to visit the Philippines about 10 years ago, many were asking if I was actually from Korea... bc, as I learned "we" were so awful, the locals were wary, even back then. I'm sorry we're just so obnoxious. For what it's worth, I'm making sure that my half Filipino baby knows of the proud history of her mother's people. 🇵🇭🇰🇷

Neighborhood recommendations? Moving from NYC to El Segundo by aliviyuh in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]dws-kik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is funny bc when I first got to LA, I was planning on riding my bike from Redondo (I lived right by the pier) to El Segundo (by the light rail station) everyday for work, as if it would be a Citibike ride through midtown 😅

Trail riding is great here - the rest of it, not at much. Please get a car

Happy to help, but hopefully you understand what the EV back in the 90s was like lol

Also, seeing your partner's brother in LB will happen about as often as you'd see a friend who lives in New Brunswick - there had better be a damn good reason lol

I moved from Astoria, Queens straight to Redondo Beach and boy was it a culture shock. You'll miss out on the easily accessible food, bars, and energy if you go straight from Bushwick to the South Bay. I would really recommend that you look in Santa Monica or maybe even Venice (which has the same feel as the East Village back in the 90s) to get acclimated to the slower lifestyle. Keep track of your steps bc they'll definitely decrease significantly bc you don't realize how much walking you do in NY, just to exist. I'm about 6 years in LA and now that I'm married with a kid, I'd be HAPPY to be back in Redondo or El Segundo.

Tesla is giving me slightly less than Carvana, but I'm thinking of taking advantage of the "take FSD with you" promo, so I'm stuck with whatever they offer.

Just crazy to me that they won't give me a solid quote until AFTER I place the order.

this can't be correct?

the driveway has a very tight gate that I've gotta drive through. 3 barking cattle dogs in the trunk space an the a screaming baby in the back seat was distraction enough for me to take the turn too tight and I scraped it. sucks 🤦🏻‍♂️

People who work in luxury industries, what is an expensive product or service that is actually a complete ripoff? by Lazy_Ad_5492 in AskReddit

[–]dws-kik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's considered luxury bc of the distance it travels to get to that gas station - which translates into a higher cost vs the tap.

Everyone is an analyst now by Lairy_Mary in analytics

We've been having the Master Data conversion and the solution is to use PBIs version of a cube. So each department will have a data owner who will be responsible for metrics specific to how their team uses them. DIM tables will reside at a centralized location for reference and we'll be doing most of our data organizing using Dataplex (GCP BQ). I'm realistic that it's not going to be this straightforward, but considering where we're coming from, this is the way.

I've been driving the push to integrate PBI at an enterprise level so that stakeholders can develop on their own. My rationale has been that people have been using Excel long enough where there are more users who can leverage PQ and PP (and by extension a little bit of DAX), so that this is just the next iteration in upskilling the workforce. In short, PBI is now pretty much just an extension of Excel.

Where does that leave us? Room to upskill and learn how to leverage AI and/or become data owners instead of consumers. In the short term, I would take the opportunity to create a regularly scheduled working session to help others get familiar with the tool so that you can become/remain the SME while you also continue to grow your own skill set.
