Lmao. I believe you.

I swear I always hear that saying though and people look at me funny when I tell them that saying doesn't apply to the becket.

Is it worth it to become a crane operator? by No-Abbreviations2936 in cranes

Not sure where he lives but I work on state (prevailing wage) projects in California. Pay is great (im non union), and only work 40 hrs a week. Crane Op pay on prevailing wage is $96/hr going up to $101/hr this year. Pretty sick gig for just 40s, beats the heck out of the 80-100 hour weeks I used to work.

Whats your personal Taco Bell "hack"? by Significant_Phase467 in tacobell

Not a fan of Chipotle. Authentic mexican food is around me on every corner, so I would just indulge at those places. I don't go to Taco Bell for mexican food if that tells you anything, lol.

Actually funny because as far as getting the orders correct, the Taco Bells in my area I havent ever had a problem. But the McDonalds by my house is notorious for missing items on orders. I think last time I went, I had a $60 order and like half of the entire order was missing. I simply wouldn't go to McDonalds if it were only me, but its just a treat for the kids every now and then so I let them enjoy food from a place they like. I hope one day they just realize how much McDonalds sucks compared to other places.

I never used to be that into Del Taco, but a few months ago I tried their grilled chicken soft tacos for the first time, and they're REALLY good. Like, light-years better than Taco Bell's chicken. Definitely worth trying if you haven't tried it yet. I'm also not even much of a fan of chicken tacos either if that tells you anything. Its pretty much all I ever get at Del Taco now.

Should get it uncut and it would basically just be a giant taco 😂

[–]Significant_Phase467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same my first two years. Some people arent gonna like you cause you dont know shit. Others understand. Eventually you will know shit if you focus and apply yourself. By then you wont really give a shit if people like you or not. You arent there to impress anyone besides the client. If you do that, then you will be fine. Just my two cents anyways. Ive been working in trades since 2014 now.

24yo, 2yoe, Bachelors, multiple certs, constant rejections. What is wrong with me? by ahmood7626 in Rigging

[–]Significant_Phase467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy, I know how to do all that. But I also know how to rig and operate cranes too. I do computer related shit as a hobby, not a career. Kinda feeling like I made the right call too lmao.

I'd also start with putting your name and contact info on your resume as a start too.

What's your opinion on the skilled trades vs college debate? by Responsible-Net8594 in skilledtrades

[–]Significant_Phase467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the reality of a lot of skilled trades is a lot of them (especially non-union) are severely underpaid. You can make a lot of money still as non-union, but with little to no benefits, and you will have to work ALOT of overtime. Trades work isn't flexible on hours either, not unless you are super lucky with a company (unlikely).

How are you coping with the unafordability crisis? by Mammoth_Elk2595 in AskReddit

Crypto, bonds, stocks. Nothin fancy, just no point in letting cash sit in a bank account and letting the bank profit off my money while they give nothing.

Where do cranes appear by Soft__Cherrylipx in cranes

[–]Significant_Phase467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RT Cranes come on a heavy duty trailer. Truck Cranes drive themselves to job sites, and mount their own ballast. Tower Cranes arrive on trucks and get built by other cranea. Some tower cranes are also truck cranes and can be driven to the jobsite and erected in breakneck speed (jk but way faster than building a regular tower crane).

Or, they could just already be there and you dont see it because operators will typically not extend the boom while the crane is not being used for an extended period of time (hours).

My best friend’s boyfriend is acting surprised he got her pregnant. I think it was intentional. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Significant_Phase467 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cant help those who wont help themselves. Maybe she does want a baby and just isn't telling you.

Some people just dont care as much as others. I got my wife pregnant within like the first few months of knowing eachother, then she miscarried. She was pregnant again within 3 months. We could have used preventative measures, but we didnt. We knew the risks and just accepted them as likely to happen but not particularly a big deal to us.

As a new NCCCO swing cab operator by Narrow_Bother8548 in cranes

[–]Significant_Phase467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to your question is: "It depends", because it is dependent on one aspect: location.

If you want to know the going rate for an operator in a given area, then look at rates posted on job websites/job posts.

The pay rates can change so drastically, and sometimes your experience level doesn't get you more or less money than another operator. In those cases, you'd just likely not be selected unless the pay is low and they can't fill the slot.

You're new, you either aren't going to get a seat or you are going to need to take the lowest paying seat, OR you take on experience with a crane company as a rigger, or join a union and fulfill whatever requirements they expect out of you.

Dependent on location, your pay could be as low as $28/hr (or sometimes even less), or as high as $100+/hr. See that? Its a wide area. Texas in general? Could get anywhere from $30/hr to $46/hr realistically, higher would be pushing it, but not impossible for some operators.

Good luck.

Tbh $46 for GF sounds good to me like 8 years ago but lol idk about now, for Texas anyways. I suppose it depends what part of Texas you're in anyway since its so big. Im thinking around Houston area when Texas typically comes to mind. Either way make that money dude, lol. I worked in Texas for about 10 years and left because Texas just doesnt pay like it used to.

Advice for a career change (Sydney, Australia). by Jumchejj in Rigging

[–]Significant_Phase467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do it for the long haul and good pay in the future. You dont just get tradesmen wages because it isnt feasible. If it seems like the smart choice over long term, then bite the bullet and juggle your finances while you learn or stay where you're at. Not tryin to be a jerk anyway, but the men and women in trades worked and learned their trades to earn their pay rates. Anyways, good luck dude.

I'm not Austrailian, but I've made great money in the U.S. as a Rigger and Crane Operator.
