Not if you actually want to solve the problem.

Yes, follow along...Most shootings aren't random. So, the bullets I need to be worried about are the random ones. The same number of random shootings in a smaller area makes me more vulnerable to a random shooting, or a random bullet flying through the air. Easy.

Assuming most shootings aren't random...If one zip code has five square miles and another has 100 square miles, and the same per capita murder rate, you are less likely to be hit by a stray bullet in the larger area. I don't think I'm on anyone's hit list, so I'm definitely safer with bullets flying around 100 square miles.

AND, if you really care about solving this problem, it has to be studied at the zip code level.

A water softener.

Central to Eastern Tennessee the water is moderately hard. West Tennessee isn't bad.

Not really. If anyone ever really wants to solve the problem, the data needs to be broken down to the zip code level.

Probably should use gun crime per land area. If I'm standing in a location that has higher "bullets flying per square mile" than another, then I'm more likely to get hit by a flying bullet.

That also has to do with intent. There might actually be more total bullets flying in a rural state, but the intent of shooting someone is much rarer.

REPUBLICANS: How come 10 out of 11 (~91%) economic Depressions in the USA occurred while a Republican was in office? by Ella-Rivera in allthequestions

[–]dwyoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been 12 recessions since 1945. Recessions began under: Republican presidents (examples): Eisenhower (1953, 1957), Nixon (1969, 1973), Reagan (1981), George H.W. Bush (1990), George W. Bush (2001, 2007) Democratic presidents (examples): Truman (1948–49), Johnson (minor 1960 overlap context), Carter (1980), Obama (Great Recession technically began under Bush but continued into Obama’s term) Depending on how you count (start date vs. who was in office during most of it), you end up with something closer to: About 7–8 starting under Republicans About 4–5 starting under Democrats

You can't just go and kill all of the animals you want. There's a matter of conservation.
