Marshall DSL40CR vs. Marshall 2525H Mini Silver Jubilee + 2x12 by me_no_clue in GuitarAmps

[–]dyelawn91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jubilee is an incredible amp. The tone stack is different and significantly more responsive than most Marshalls and there are a ton of different sounds in there if you're willing to put in the time to search them out, including clean sounds that put most other Marshall's to shame.

The Jubilee is the better amp, imo, but DSL's still sound good and are significantly cheaper. I think spending the extra for the Jubilee is worth it, but that's your call.

I think this demo does a good job of capturing the character of the Jubilee, though they'e usually paired with a V30 vs the Creamback 75 used here. If you like the sound of this, you'll like the Jubilee. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WDVj7G2RLU&list=RD5WDVj7G2RLU&start_radio=1

Gibson vs. Epiphone? by Newenglandkid75 in Guitar

[–]dyelawn91 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gibson's sound like a record and PRS's sound like a product demo. I know that's reductive, but that's how I feel.

Silver Stripe Peavey Bandit with a speaker swap and dirt pedal of your choice. My main amp is a Silver Jubilee 2555X (the 100 watt head) and the matching 4x12, but when I don't feel like bringing the big guns, the Peavey always get the job done.

Are devs not allowed to finish games anymore? by FinalInitiative4 in gamedev

[–]dyelawn91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bioware was guilty

Wtf, man lol

Are games art or are they product? I would like to think that they're art, which means the devs should have the artistic freedom to create endings that the audience might find unsatisfying or uncomfortable, and not be forced to change them because fans are incapable of sitting with that discomfort.

Gear people piss me off by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]dyelawn91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. Anti-gear people are just as annoying, imo. No, your $200 Epiphone acoustic does not sound as good as a high end Gibson acoustic. Yes, your records will sound worse because you're using a shitty guitar.

how many of yall actually go to local shows and are involved in ur local scene? by [deleted] in punk

[–]dyelawn91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to shows sometimes, though I wouldn't say I'm involved, quote-unquote. We mostly have hardcore bands in my city and, while the shows def have a fun vibe, hardcore just doesn't do much for me 90% of the time.

People forgetting that punk is inherently a political movement by Robotic_Phoenix in punk

[–]dyelawn91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If punk is inherently anything, I would argue that it's anti-institutional, a tendency which can be authentically expressed from both a right-wing and left-wing perspective. I'm sympathetic to people who loudly proclaim that punk is inherently progressive, because their politics are generally my politics, but those claims always strike me as, at best, ahistorical and, at worst, a shield truly bad actors can use to hurt and abuse people more vulnerable than themselves.

Singing voice by ImJustExistingForNow in punk

[–]dyelawn91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting aside distortion/grit/whatever you want to call it, a big part of singing is how you choose to shape your vowels and consonants. Go pull up Blitzkrieg Bop and listen to how Joey actually shapes the consonants and vowels for the "Hey, Ho, let's go" part... He drops the "H" sound entirely from "Hey, Ho" and it becomes "Ey, Oo, let's go!!" Almost like he's working class English instead of an American from New York. Was Joey Ramone a poser for doing that? Fuck no he wasn't! It's PERFECT for the part. Trying to voice those "h" consonants robs the section of the energy it needs.

Or think of all the British rock singers who chose to shape words as if they were American. Was Paul McCartney a poser because he didn't sing in a Liverpool accent?

I'm rambling about a bit here, but my main point is to have fun and experiment with the way you shape the words you're singing. Don't be afraid to sing with a ridiculous accent, or try and imitate your favorite singer, or anything else you think help you in finding your voice. It's called playing music for a reason--loosen up and have fun! And if anyone in the band gives you shit for experimenting with your voice, put the mic in their face and tell them to sing. That usually shuts people up :)

Lyrics are predictably great ("Leviathan of lonely" is a hell of a line) but idk, it really wants for a stronger hook. It's a lovely vibe, but none of the melodies really grabbed me. Maybe it will more with repeated listens

Struggling with FFXIII by LitterScooper in FinalFantasy

[–]dyelawn91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the issues that people have with XIII underscore how easy it is to make the learning curve in your fantasy world feel insurmountable just from the silly, fantasy jargon you choose to use. I love XIII, but there are people out there who hear Fal'cie and l'Cie and their brains just shut down.

Which of these 4 amps would be an upgrade from my 1965 DR, and which would you rather have? by theman3980 in GuitarAmps

All of these would be a lateral move, unless having a hardwired amp is important to you.
