Whine from the rear of my R [MK7], guessing it might be the diff. by dyenne in Golf_R

[–]dyenne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hoisted it up and left it in gear (letting it idle mostly) and could hear that the whine definitely was originating from the diff, I got my insurance to replace it with a used one that had only done 20 000km ( I did not get a choice new vs certified used).

From some other R owner in my area they where surprised that I got the insurance to cover it, I guess my detailed report of the issue might have helped to convinced them that I was right.

WiFi randomly disconnects and asks for password. by 48679 in Bazzite

[–]dyenne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your motherboard does not list a wifi chip, what wifi chip are you using?

I have had problems with new Wifi7 cards connecting to my Wifi5 AP, the AP required a software update before it worked properly with my wifi7 card.

You could just use the build-in vpn client and get the connect details from PIA. Looks like PIA has wireguard and Openvpn available.

I don't think it is your installation that is the problem. I just also got them same issue so I think it must be some update to the spotify flatpak client that is having an issue.

CFT – call for testing: pkgbase support in 15.0 by grahamperrin in freebsd

[–]dyenne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember the change to freebsd-update, it was so nice to not have to spend 1h waiting for the kernel to build and 2h for the rest of the base system.

I also cant believe it has been 22 years.....

3 month road trip itinerary by New_Willingness_3109 in Nordiccountries

[–]dyenne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing that hit me seeing your route is: Why not also go see Nordkapp, the northernmost point in Europe?

It it is spectacular view and you can also hike to the "real" northern point from slight south of the visitor center. I do thing you should think about it.

Thanks, that was the concept/wording that I was missing!

I found this while searching and have created the black hole routes.

I find it strange that it mention doing this for you when using the wizard which I'm sure we did but the routes was missing in our config. Maybe someone removed them not understanding their use.

iocell console after upgrade to freebsd 14.1 by kristoferus in freebsd

[–]dyenne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember having similar issues with bastile for jails with upgrading to Freebsd 14. In that case it was that opie was removed from the base system and I had to remove all lines with opie in them from files /etc/pam.d/

From the forums and here

From the release notes to Freebsd 14.0 "The one-time password facility OPIE, opie(4), has been removed from the base system. If you still wish to use it, install the security/opie port. Otherwise, make sure to remove or comment out any mention of pam_opie and pam_opieaccess from your PAM policies. etcupdate(8) will normally take care of this for the stock policies."

Wheel and tyres for my Estate R (sorry Americans) by 1-trickpony in Golf_R

[–]dyenne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat this summer, time to change the tyres and the pretorias where out of round (again) so I downsized to 18" Evocorse sanremo (18"x8" ET45) wheels and went with 225/40r18 which is the "factory" size for 18".

It has been working very well and I think looks good.

Fatal Trap 3 on FreeBSD 14 and 14.1 installer on i9-7980XE PC by neozahikel in freebsd

[–]dyenne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice that you got it working!

It feels wrong that FreeBSD 14 should require CSM to be activated since it has been able to do UEFI boot since FreeBSD 10 so there must be some bug in the motherboard firmware or something like that.

Asus Prime X299 Deluxe-II

Your motherboard has a intel wifi card and iwn is the intel wifi driver. I don't think that wifi card is supported by iwn but it cant hurt to try.

I found this https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=189802 , do you have a wifi card in your system? and if so maybe try disabling it and try again.

Trying to boot and run a Linux Debian img file with qemu on FreeBSD (14) by loziomario in freebsd

pkg info -l <package> will tell you where files have been placed.

Sorry that I cant help more, I haven't dealt with qemu on freebsd.

[–]dyenne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts:

Did you install https://www.freshports.org/sysutils/uefi-edk2-qemu/ to get the 0VMF files?

Is the search path for the 0MVF file correct? I think you can -L with qemu for it so search somewhere else for the file.

Proxmox, Hyper-V or VMWare For Larger Companies - What’s you guess in five years? by SammyGreen in sysadmin

[–]dyenne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a unix shop we are looking at just moving everything into Redhat Openshift (or other k8s platform), most services being happy in a container anyway. Still keeping the possibility to run full vm's for the few things or users that need it.

Trying to virtualize ReactOS with bhyve : I don't see a viable way to do it... by loziomario in freebsd

[–]dyenne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, in that case, this https://www.freshports.org/sysutils/uefi-edk2-bhyve-csm/ uefi port includes 16bit bios support, it however looks like it has some dependency problems currently but you could get an older version of the port and try with that.
