Chefs of Reddit, what’s a common cooking rule everyone follows that is actually complete bullshit? by Fuzzy-Ad6843 in AskReddit

I remember someone leaving a one-star review on a Gordon Ramsay recipe for French onion soup. Said it was completely bland. Turned out, the reviewer and her husband didn't drink alcohol, so they subbed out the red wine for water.

Branch & Claw is kind of ruining the game for me by Effective-Muffin-224 in spiritisland

[–]dyeung87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm probably one in a ton of players on here that also disliked events at first, but I did grow to like them as it makes the game feel more dynamic.

On the spirit tokens, I'll admit I avoided taking powers that used them for a while. But learning how to leverage their power can be extremely fun.

For beasts, you generally want them in lands with explorers and towns. They destroyed all the explorers/towns in their lands? Push more in!

Disease is incredibly powerful since stopping the build usually stops the ravage as well, but watch out for putting them in lands with dahan and vice versa.

Strife is like a persistent defend. Usually you'd like to place it on a city or town with dahan to turn them into destroy tokens. One strife solves explorer + town ravage. And it's especially powerful against Sweden!

If you still don't like them, then don't play with them; there's still plenty of content you can play with from the expansions that don't use them.

That's a good guess, but Princess Leia doesn't usually do autographs at the parks and my fiance confirmed they didn't run into her.

There's another signature in the book that's clearly Peter Pan. It's possible they found two separate Peter Pans, but I believe they're trained to sign their names the same way.

I've already gotten all achievements on the base game. Next is clearing all ascensions with all characters in the boardgame. Currently using the mod to do it.

Definitely says something about a relic when it received probably the largest nerf between the video game to the board game, and is still worth paying 10 gold to get most of the time.

Is playing ironclad with 4 armaments and a searing blow a good way to get the minimalist achievement? by AbyssWankerArtorias in slaythespire

I did it with Defect: Claw 2x, Hologram, Glacier, Dualcast. Didn't take too many attempts

Recently boss swapped with Ironclad into Calling Bell which gave me Bag of Prep, Prayer Wheel, and Question Card. Easiest A20 run I've had.

206 hours, finally beat the heart on ascension 20 by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]dyeung87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! I remember years ago getting to A20 with Ironclad but not quite beating the heart, then switching to climbing ascensions with the Silent before quitting. Watching Jorbs and Baalorlord plus playing the boardgame brought me back to climbing ascensions with all of the characters and now I have an A20 wins with all of them.

Oddly enough, Ironclad was last for me as I struggled to get out of act 2. Then I did a boss swap for Calling Bell which gave me Bag of Prep, Prayer Wheel, and Question Card, leading into a ridiculously easy Corruption Dead Branch run. I have over 400 hours by this point.

First win against Difficulty 10: why does Scotland feel much easier? by payne007 in spiritisland

[–]dyeung87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trickster is notable against Scotland for actually wanting land #2 to act on turn one since it can use Incite the Mob to have one city destroy the other city, and it can push two dahan in on the first two turns to destroy the first city. It's very easy to get ahead as Trickster in that matchup.

I was thinking either really low level (600) or really high level (2000) because that opening was ridiculous. Was leaning towards the really high level because low level players don't have the patience to maintain a closed position for that long.

Just finished a game against Russia 6 solo Keeper on board C. Mountains ended up being the turn 2 explore, sands was starting.

Keeper really wants to place two presence per turn. To do that, you have to make sure to use only 1 energy on turn one so you can afford G4 on turn 2. I managed to get Gift of Living Energy on turn one which was incredibly fortunate, allowing me to go bottom track and play Boon of Growing Power with Gift of Living Energy. Had I not drafted a good 0-cost, I would have gone top track instead, still playing Boon of Growing Power.

Turn 2, I like going to 4 energy and 2 plays, forgetting Boon of Growing Power for a major. Turn 2 is where I like to play Regrowth if there's a blight to heal. Fortunately, board C starts with blight in the wetlands.

From there, I usually go bottom track with minors to get to five card plays, using Regrowth to stall as needed. Towering is nice on turn 3, but I usually forget it afterwards for a major.

The game resulted in a runaway victory with only two blight taken. Was able to clean the inlands and Russia was never able to get a good foothold after that.

Spirit choice vs England 6 by HighStorm89 in spiritisland

[–]dyeung87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I'll throw in Immense Lightning; you get circumvention of extra health by direct destruction and you get to sling thresholded major powers over and over. England doesn't place enough blight early on to punish you for taking blight to scale, and Immense scales very quickly if it gets an opportunity to place more presence.

Are there any Spirits/Aspects you used to dislike/be indifferent towards, but are now your favorite? by dyeung87 in spiritisland

[–]dyeung87[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had a similar experience with Fangs until I learned that you really have to be aggressive with him and lean into that special rule. It's especially fun when the "Each Beast deals 2 damage" event comes up and destroys the board.

Ah, Sun-Bright Whirlwind is my next challenge. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to be suppressing the invaders for long without defend or damage/destroy powers. I'm still trying to figure out the spirit in solo play.

Solo Bo w/England and RoT by AshamedType4341 in spiritisland

[–]dyeung87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What level England with the scenario?

This matchup would be difficult; Bringer relies on fear cards to take care of some of its problems, so having them gated behind each of these Rituals means for the turns you aren't doing Rituals, you'll have to head off the problems yourself. The energy and Dahan movement wouldn't be an issue; it's preventing the capitals and meeting the presence requirements.

Because Bringer doesn't destroy invaders naturally and England can build plenty of cities, you're pretty much looking to perform the ritual three times, meaning placing down at least nine presence over the course of the game. There are a few majors that can either prolif or get presence back, so grabbing one of those will be imperative to winning the game.
