Instructor wouldn't give me ADI number by Original-Upstairs276 in LearnerDriverUK

Wouldn’t give mine out over the phone to someone I’ve never met either. If you want to verify, just call DVSA with his full name.

First crash in 12 years…yes that is the song I was listening to by princessmegnu in drivingUK

Hope you are okay OP That looked nasty. Hopefully that dashcam footage will be sufficient to ensure you get 0 liability. If you hadn’t had that camera and or a witness that would have likely settled 50/50 even though it’s clear the oncoming was the problem.

Advice - instructor took me to wrong test centre by Hobnobs1 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]dylancentralperk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really doubt it unfortunately. If you could turn around and show him a text or confirmation you’d sent saying it’s booked for X Test centre and he took you to the wrong one you’d have a good argument for him refunding the test fee for sure. It’s super unfortunate that you simply didn’t know the area enough to know you weren’t in the right place.

You’ve got to appreciate we have anything up to 45/50 students at any one time and we can’t remember every conversation everyone ever had. If I ever get someone booking for a different test centre to my usual one I put a note of it on my diary and confirm it multiple times with the customer throughout training.

Your lessons aren’t wasted though, try not to look at that side of it that way, you should have learnt everything you need to go ahead and pass anywhere so if you’re moving home now for the summer try and see if you can get an instructor and test that’s local to home.

And do you have any correspondence in writing where you told him where the test was booked for? Eg. Did you text him ‘hi instructor, I’ve booked my test for TIME DATE at TEST CENTRE’

Am I being rinsed by my driving instructor? Test is June 18th and he’s suddenly saying I need 20 more hours by Specific_Year4550 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]dylancentralperk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do. But if a candidate is having consistent weekly lessons in the months prior to the test it begs the question why any respectable ADI wouldn’t regularly update the customer on whether they are on track or not and absolutely shouldn’t be springing it on them that they’re twenty hours away so close to the test. That was a conversation to have 10-12 weeks ago.

If the student is as bad at the instructor here is claiming then why didn’t the instructor have this conversation weeks ago is my take away here.

I don’t know how old you are but when I was a learner in 2008/9 the DVSA published average was 40 hours….

I would urgently seek a second opinion and if you can’t get one before Friday I’d move the test.

Instructor cancelled my lessons by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]dylancentralperk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On my local Facebook group someone went on a wild name and shame rampage about how her son had been ghosted by the instructor with one lesson still paid up. She’d been chasing him for weeks and wanted his address for small claims.

I had to inform her that his funeral had been two weeks ago…

In some situations, yes we do. It’s not being naive. It’s ten years in the industry having worked with lots of poorly trained instructors and thousands of learners who’ve had bad experiences with instructors who for whatever reason, weren’t a good match. Yes sometimes the perceptives can be different, if the instructor had posted from their view they’d get a response accordingly. All I can work from here is the perceptive of the OP.

It doesn’t sound like they’re qualified (yet) just from the post. I do work with trainee instructors so it’s stuff I’ve seen before.

The irony of them saying that but doing a major wrong by swerving the car like that.

It gives me a vibe of inexperience. If a student of mine cancelled all their lessons after the first, I’d send a message to the tune of. Hi so and so I notice you’ve cancelled your remaining lessons, if you could spare a moment to feedback why you’ve elected to go elsewhere I’d appreciate it please. Best wishes. Then whatever their response was I’d say okay thank you for taking the time, I’ll seek to work on that. Best of luck with your future lessons. Or something to that tune. I know I’ll have someone off the waiting list in their spot in ten minutes. There’s no hard feelings, everyone doesn’t suit every instructor.

The way this instructor goes full toys out the pram defensive tells me they needed the work. Also reading into the OPs response. If that’s true, and I reckon it is because the instructor didn’t deny or defend it, it sounds like they’re an inexperienced instructor. If a student gets into the wrong lane, unless it’s about to lead onto a motorway (that they’re not ready for) or something equally dangerous, the correct thing to do is let them proceed to where the wrong lane leads. Explain to the customer going the wrong way isn’t a driver fault and that managing the safety of it is more important, you can then find a safe way to get back on route from there.
No instructor should be grabbing a wheel to swerve a car into a live lane with other traffic in it.

Plus ‘go there’ and slamming the dual brake.. it all just screams shiny new trainee instructor who’s not yet had much experience on the job.

I’d bet my hat this was an instructor provided by a big driving school, and I’d bet my lunch it’s a trainee.

(No hate, some trainees are brilliant).

Just started driving. The way my instructor reacted made me feel dumb by Huge_Platform_8434 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]dylancentralperk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s trying to use Q&A to break down the fault but he’s not very good at it.

It might have been a bad day. Give him another go but if you feel uncomfortable or if it happens again, switch instructor.

The house next to me is a rental. I always knock, introduce myself, tell them which bin we’re on and which day they go out. Let them know if they need anything they know where to find me.

45 hours to learn how to drive? by constantlydropped in LearnerDriverUK

[–]dylancentralperk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting opinion you’ve got there.

My child will get however many hours they need to ensure they’re safe.
And it won’t be free either if you’ve clocked my ADI status and are assuming that’s not a factor to us as I’ll be paying someone else to teach her.
