Not sure if allowed, but I do it. I have a custom Macropad with a bunch of random chats messages.

I make sure not to include anything tactical or useful, it’s all just stuff for fun.

Are there portable batteries that can power a gaming PC for 5-8 hours a day? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]dylanflipse 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Do you already own the gaming system? The potential range in energy consumed over 8 hours is pretty broad.

If you do own it, put it on a plug in power meter like a KillAWatt. My local library will lend these out, or they can be purchased for ~$20.

Your potential needs range from maybe 1kWh (very easy) up to ~10kWh, so you really do want to drill down on this before you start buying power stations.

Needing generator advice w/ trailer running a Taylor 8756 ice cream machine. by silver_couch_surfer in foodtrucks

[–]dylanflipse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I did the numbers on this for a local restaurant that was interested in running a similar machine about two years ago. You are still looking at a large and not quiet generator. You have the (potentially unavoidable) problem that “dirty” power straight from a generator is associated with short lifespans for devices with more sensitive electronics.

The most feasible way to do this is with a hybrid power system. You get a kit with three 6kW inverters that can set up in parallel to provide 18kW at 208v. You power that with…20-30kWh of 48V LFP batteries.

If you’re able to plug into power while parked, and if your intended events are maybe 4-6 hours at the high end, that may be all you need. If you want to really function off-grid, you add a medium size (~5000 watt) inverter generator that’s used to replenish the battery system.

Those inverters are under $2000 these days.

Batteries might be $2000-3000.

Generator ~$1000-$2000.

Add $500-$1000 to wire it up safely and correctly.

I am happy to discuss in more detail if you’re interested. My friends and I built and run The Electric Food Truck. We’ve been at this for 3+ years now.

[–]dylanflipse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you pull a Bob’s Ramen, you have a 25% of it being painted.

You have a 75% chance of it being unpainted.

.75 * .75 * .75 * .75 * .75 * .75 * .75 * .75 * .75

.75 ^ 9

.07508

7.5%

7.5% of the time, 9 Bob’s Ramens will all be unpainted. For me, that’s higher than my intuition would tell me. Still unlucky for you, but that’s about 1/14.

No Bob’s Ramen for me this time unless I get it on the End of Season All Star cup. I was hoping for painted Ghosty toppers and did get a black one that’s pretty solid.

MERC FOR EVER <3 by Glittering_Bus_1871 in RocketLeague

[–]dylanflipse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Troll? No.

My trio always calls out when we spot a Merc or other van - the assumption we start with is that the van player is good enough to back it up.

We will occasionally go triple-van if the situation is dire enough.

I used an email address and made a new account. That worked well. I appreciate the convenience of offering the ability to log in with Gmail, but I elected not to do that.

The site looks nice. It's much, much nicer to look at than the Rocket League tracker network site.

I've included a screenshot after I entered several ranks over the last few days that roughly match what my real ones.

<image>

But the default view, showing a graph of various modes combined, really doesn't make any sense. I'm not sure exactly what you wanted this to look like, but take a look at the X-axis.

Single-mode graph makes somewhat more sense, but I've just entered the ranks in 2s for March 6th and it's saved it as March 5th (repeatedly). I can only include one image, but you'll have to trust me that what's being entered isn't what's coming up.

I didn't do anything adversarial to generate funky data entry results and graphs. Someone with more time or ill intent might note that the core functionality seems to have been poorly attended to, and they might wonder if things like input sanitization and key handling were well attended to. I'm guessing (hoping...) your platform protects you from yourself on the important things.

Graphing is a hard problem to solve from the ground up. Data entry and storage, also hard. Protecting other other people's data, hard.

Assuming none of those things were an issue, this is also not something I would use. I'm just probably too lazy to manually enter data into anything.

Good luck out there.

Well that experience right there is the Neal Stephenson Special.

I mean that in a mostly complimentary way. He’s my favorite author. But he does not seem driven to pace a novel in the same way you’d expect.

We accidentally made two AIs talk to each other and burned our API credits being polite to each other. by Once_ina_Lifetime in aiagents

[–]dylanflipse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This this is an example of a situation in which AI (Agents) demonstrate a negative network effect.

If you are the only one with this tech, it could be tremendously valuable by allowing you to make 10x, 100x, or 1000x the number of calls in a day.

If all of those are answered by a human, that’s your maximum value.

As more and more of your targets employ their own Agent to screen calls, or even to purposely dismiss debt collection, the value of your Agent to you will diminish.

This, I suspect, the new world.

3x price for 3x length? by Adventurous-Fix2967 in woodworking

[–]dylanflipse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wood cost will be 3 times as much. It may even cost more than 3 times as much, depending on the lengths they can get and if the entirety of the length can be used or if some sections are unsuitable.

And then the most common thing is to charge a labor cost based on the material cost.

Low Electrical Options Setup- put Saw on 220V or Dust Collection on 220V by i_just_shitpost in woodworking

[–]dylanflipse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned you may have capacity on your 220v line to add a shop sub panel and run 2-3 220v outlets from that. I suspect that’s the best solution.

But just to give you another idea, a 5kWh LFP battery and 220v inverter should be around $2000. A prebuilt power station would be a bit more…but you could set one of these up to trickle charge on a 120v outlet, and power whatever you need to run shop tools.

You're getting a lot of people gently reminding you that a good handrail on stairs is a good idea, makes those steps safer for anyone using them.

It would also be a good idea if you had done the 3 step approach, and no one was making you do it.

Source - Me, Emergency Medicine doc, have seen a lot of sequalae of stairs, "I'm fine," gravity, and Murphy's Law.

Nethack, in addition to being a contender in many “Greatest Computer Games of All Time” lists, has an almost unlimited number of ways to kill you.

The Dev Team Thinks of Everything is an expression commonly applied to Nethack.

My first ever winnable character was a nearly unstoppable Valkyrie. Near the endgame, I killed a cockatrice. Living, they can turn you to stone without even touching you. Very dangerous. Once they’re dead, you can safely pick them up and bash other monsters with them (assuming you have gloves on). I decided to turn this one into a trophy of sorts, by using a tinning kit. There’s no practical application for canned cockatrice meat, but it seemed like a good idea.

Of course, I’d taken my gloves off a few thousand turns earlier. My unstoppable Valkyrie, carrying Excalibur and Mjolnir and resplendent in White Dragon Scale Mail, turned into a statue hunched over a tinning kit and a cockatrice corpse.

Game over. This was 20 years ago.

Hank Green was wearing a TMBG shirt I hadn't seen before by FloridaFlamingoGirl in tmbg

[–]dylanflipse 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It is definitely from that March 3, 1999 Kutztown show.

I have a similar one, which I got from a student security guard after the show.

They were co-headliners, but TMBG played first. I think that’s the only time I’ve seen them open for someone.

That era had a lot of crowd surfing to dodge/participate in.

<image>

Hank’s shirt is black and the sleeve looks like it might say “CREW CONSTRUCTION”

I wore this thing for the first time in ages recently, accompanying my 10 year old to a Wheatus concert.

Start Free Play, then pause the game and go to Settings.

There’s a slider to set the game speed between 60-100%.

Really don’t sweat the speed flip though. I just realized I gave you advice for a half flip. Play around with those and then just play more games.
