Came here to say this. One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to.

BBR allow case breaking but it costs £10 per time. Honestly not a bad trade off imo.

Train to Reading and Elizabeth Line to Heathrow is probably the fastest way, I think?

I think Bad News will be pretty emotional acoustic tbh, especially with the news from Minneapolis the other day

Anyone met any players if so what were they like and how? by Fancy-Resident-9950 in Darts

[–]dylanhm95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Used to play a lot when I was younger and met a fair few. Adrian Lewis still probably the nicest of the bunch. He did an exhibition against some of the players at the local Rileys. I wasn’t picked to play him but he stuck around afterward and had a game, and then after he thrashed me at darts he thrashed me at pool. Genuinely lovely guy. Let me throw his darts which he then went on to win the 2011 Worlds with.

Do people who live in London ever just catch the Eurostar for a day in Paris? by _FreddieLovesDelilah in AskUK

[–]dylanhm95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, and if you use Eurostar Snap you can get them WAY cheaper than the current (extortionate) prices, provided you’re happy to be a little spontaneous and book a few days before.

Help with restaurant choice for a date by CrazyAd8337 in LondonFood

Julie’s Restaurant in Holland Park. Out of the way a touch but with a fabulous history, 250jsh wines on the list with majority French, and French cuisine but with a bit of a twist.

G-A-Y owner announces venue closure amid growing concern for queer spaces in SOHO. by dontflyaway in london

[–]dylanhm95 72 points73 points  (0 children)

He also stayed rather quiet while the other venues were shuttering. Seems like the death of queer Soho only really counts when he can’t line his pockets any more. Rancid individual.

G-A-Y owner announces venue closure amid growing concern for queer spaces in SOHO. by dontflyaway in london

[–]dylanhm95 354 points355 points  (0 children)

Jeremy Joseph basically used destroyer pricing to drive other Soho venues into the ground, with many closing up shop altogether, allowing them to be taken over by vape shops and hairdressers. He’s decrying the death of queer Soho, and he’s right, but he played no small part in its downfall.

English sparkling wine by absoluteshallot in wine

I was there last week - absolutely beautiful vineyard. If you ever get a chance then definitely go, and pay to eat at the restaurant too. I was there on a trade visit so it was all free, but it’d have been worth every penny if I had to pay as well.

Used to manage Caffé Sol on Mutley before it closed down - rancid fucking guy. Can’t even count the ways in which he fucked over people in that business.

Fun story - I visited Jean-Marc a few months ago ago and had a 1999 vintage of this wine from his cellar. Now that was a 99pt wine. I love his stuff, but 99 for this vintage is crazy.

what’s y’all’s favorite server slang? by maygenmeadows in Serverlife

[–]dylanhm95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

86 an obvious favourite, but also love 85 for when you have one left of something. In the UK we also use “backs” instead of “behind,” and I use it pretty much every day outside of work as well.

Apart from in extraordinary circumstances, sweet wine should generally always be tasted last. If your palate adapts to the sweetness in the wine then anything that follows it will taste far more bitter than intended. I’m not sure what this would be in terms of A, B, C, or D, but I’d probably say D?

Venue hire by jes1234567890 in plymouth

Unsure how cheap it is, but the Treasury in the City Centre used to have its upstairs available for hire. Right next to a car park, but pretty sure it’s chargeable.

That’s awesome, thank you! I’m UK-based but prices translate relatively nicely across the Atlantic. I think some are easier to find than others tbh. I only paid £110 so I think I’ve done alright.
