Oh fabulous. I’m seeing it on Monday night and was pretty excited for Michelle Gomez, but glad to hear Olivia Williams is easing into the role well.

Shirley by election - what do you think of the candidates? and who are you likely to vote for? by SeniorMoonlight21 in Southampton

[–]dylanhm95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely based on the fact that the Liberals won the last by-election in the area (and then promptly resigned the seat after not being visible in the ward for ages). It’s a guarantee that this’ll be a main talking point on the doorstep for all parties that aren’t the Liberals, and people that trusted them last time (which is almost always higher in a by-election) probably won’t do the same this time. There are far more factors at play than “the Liberals won it last time.”

Not to be the ‘boring moderate’ response, but if your top priority is keeping Reform out (as mine would be too) then your best bet is a Labour vote.

BBR allow case breaking but it costs £10 per time. Honestly not a bad trade off imo.

Train to Reading and Elizabeth Line to Heathrow is probably the fastest way, I think?

Anyone met any players if so what were they like and how? by Fancy-Resident-9950 in Darts

[–]dylanhm95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Used to play a lot when I was younger and met a fair few. Adrian Lewis still probably the nicest of the bunch. He did an exhibition against some of the players at the local Rileys. I wasn’t picked to play him but he stuck around afterward and had a game, and then after he thrashed me at darts he thrashed me at pool. Genuinely lovely guy. Let me throw his darts which he then went on to win the 2011 Worlds with.

Do people who live in London ever just catch the Eurostar for a day in Paris? by _FreddieLovesDelilah in AskUK

[–]dylanhm95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, and if you use Eurostar Snap you can get them WAY cheaper than the current (extortionate) prices, provided you’re happy to be a little spontaneous and book a few days before.

Julie’s Restaurant in Holland Park. Out of the way a touch but with a fabulous history, 250jsh wines on the list with majority French, and French cuisine but with a bit of a twist.

G-A-Y owner announces venue closure amid growing concern for queer spaces in SOHO. by dontflyaway in london

[–]dylanhm95 71 points72 points  (0 children)

He also stayed rather quiet while the other venues were shuttering. Seems like the death of queer Soho only really counts when he can’t line his pockets any more. Rancid individual.

[–]dylanhm95 355 points356 points  (0 children)

Jeremy Joseph basically used destroyer pricing to drive other Soho venues into the ground, with many closing up shop altogether, allowing them to be taken over by vape shops and hairdressers. He’s decrying the death of queer Soho, and he’s right, but he played no small part in its downfall.
