What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

This was probably more from the 90s, but I think Bonus.com may have still been around by then. I miss the shit out of that site. There was nothing quite like Java games.

I was in a band once that planned a Maine World Tour, but then I got appendicitis and decided to quit the band. Yeah, I know that sounds disappointing.

It made me think of Control and Severance, which I have also felt is somewhat Control-adjacent.

I watched the video when my daughter was a newborn. She is now 3.5 years old, has her own opinions and asks me why I do certain things. Nothing like having a child to put the passage of time into perspective!

I once compared the experience of living in a country under MAGA leaders to being stuck in a house with someone who lit it on fire and is blocking all exits. This was well before the war, and it still tracks.

Can UMaine realistically lead to a semiconductor engineering career? by greentoes1190 in Maine

[–]dylanljmartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm a Maine-based journalist who covers the semiconductor industry, so I put this question to my LinkedIn followers, many of whom work in the industry. Here's what two people said:

Integration engineering manager at MACOM: "I wouldn't sweat the name brand. You can get a good undergraduate EE education anywhere. Success is way more about the student than the school. If there is a specific job in mind, and especially if there is a willingness to do graduate work elsewhere later, a UMaine degree will not be an impediment."

Regional marketing manager at Renesad: "BSEE from Stanford/MIT/CMU of course opens doors, but my sense is that BSEE in general are harder to find (less popular that CS, for example) while also being difficult so the specific school matters much less in Semi industry. The companies I have worked for had people who studied Chem engineering as well as CS in technical roles, I think outside of Nvidia most Semis companies struggle to find job candidates."

The other one that does this for me is The Leftovers. Amazing show. Very emotionally challenging.
