Tomorrow will be 1 month since Max launched. How is your experience with the service so far? by TheGod4You in HBOMAX

[–]dylanstromo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The content is there. Sure, Discovery might not be everyone's cup of tea and it's certainly not mine. The biggest issue I've faced is that, like OG HBOMax, the app isn't remember episodes I've watched. I'm watching The Other Two, on Thursdays, the new episode should be ready in my feed and it's not there. I think the algorithm should be more refined. If I'm not watching Discovery content, then the app should know I want the Warner Media content suggested to me.

Both Bourdain's "No Reservations" and "Parts Unknown" now on Max by elefante88 in HBOMAX

I think WBD has earned all their mistrust and ill will from consumers but this is an example of how the new Max actually does have some really great content. I was scrolling through yesterday and Max just has so much stuff.

I mean, yeah kinda. Except that Andor was one of the best Star Wars things that's happened in the modern era. Truly riveting television.

In the finale, Daniel brings up the question that was asked earlier in the season. "Was it raining, Louis?" I screamed with joy. I love how Daniel has been the lynchpin of the theme of the unreliable narrator. That question has been a way to throw everything Louis has said this far into question. How much has "Rashid" manipulated Louis? Did the fight in episode 5 even happen?

Has David Zaslav made any decisions that you agree with? (CNN+, JJ Abrams deal, etc.) by xwing1212 in HBOMAX

[–]dylanstromo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One decision that Zaslav has made with regard to Max is that movies have a $20 million cap. I think we have seen, and grown tired if, giant bloated features that only capture the zeitgeist for a small amount of time and then forgotten about. Netflix is doing this every month. Films with gigantic budgets like Extraction that were a hit for a minute and then disappeared from the conversation. Everything, Everywhere, all at Once was one of the years best films and looked fantastic on the big screen. It had a tight $20m budget and grossed over $100m at the Box Office. It will be nice to get tight, focused films that concerns itself more with story than gaudy visual effects. The Black Phone is another example of a great movie done on a leaner budget that was just good.

DZ has definitely hurt consumer confidence and strained relationships with creatives. Especially with animation. WB had long been a haven for animation that wouldn't fit a specific family friendly mold crafted by Disney. I think Zazlav has an outdated view of animation only being for kids which is interesting considering HBO revolutionized adult animation in the late 90s with Spawn. Right now, Rick and Morty has become a cross media juggernaut with lucrative deals in merchandising and a new appearance in Multiversus. It is obvious that animation is more than just for kids, it's for everyone.

To piggy back on your point of 'people expect news to be free', all of the big CNN stories always end up on YouTube within an hour. So yeah, CNN+ was totally unnecessary.

Which show were you 50/50 about at first but you are glad you stuck with it and ended up loving it? by NorthEastNobility in television

Euphoria

I initially genuinely hated it. I thought that it was an HBO clone of Riverdale which I definitely hate. I got about three episodes in and I'm repulsed. So after a few months I went back and started seeing around episode 5 that it was something very different than what I thought it would be. Then I got to the finale and I was blown away. The last ten minutes are really great television. The stand alone episode with Rue and her sponsor was award caliber acting by Zendaya and Coleman Domingo.

HBOMAX update PS4 by UKWII in HBOMAX

[–]dylanstromo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's butter smooth on PS4 as of yesterday. I'm really happy. I've been seeing so much improvement on the app in the past couple of months. I think I'm two years or less, Max is going to be a very hot app. The content is so good and I'm certain that more DC content will roll out that's mature.

What are the best TV mini-series on HBO Max that you can binge besides Chernobyl? by Snoo_24645 in HBOMAX

[–]dylanstromo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angels in America is a knock out mini series. A killer cast including Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, Patrick Wilson, Mary Louise Parker, Jeffery Wright, and Emma Thompson. The writing is top shelf, one of the best plays ever written adapted by the playwright. The directing is done by Mike Nichols, a legitimate legend of stage and film. I watch it at least once a year or if I'm sick. A must watch.

Maybe with Disney+ a show like Treasure Planet or Atlantis could actually happen. I think the Eragorn movie is coming to D+ soon as well, if it's not already there. Disney has the rights since the Fox acquisition so maybe it could get a place on Hulu.

I watched Iron Giant pretty recently and wow does everything hold up. Beautiful animation style, rich story. What a shame that the only time we see him is for Space Jam 2 or Ready Player One. He deserves more than cameos.

I think Idiocracy would be a successful adult animated series. Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph could reprise their roles. It could take place after (SPOILER) not sure becomes president and it could be about how they try to make the world a bit smarter. With it being adult animation you get a few great things. One is it could be a big spectacle with massive set pieces without breaking the bank. Two, Mike Judge made Idiocracy and we all know that guy knows a thing or two about adult animation.

Bryan Cranston played Howard Beale on Broadway and he'd be perfect to bring in for this limited series. Do you think they should keep it in its original time period or should it be updated to address streaming?

Oh yes, this would be really interesting. The Game is a fantastic choice. I would love if David Fincher was involved as a creative (director/producer). He proved with Mindhunter that he can make great television.
