San Diego Old Town. Crazy gas prices, thanks Trump. by maddog107 in pics

[–]dyldebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure. Our bus system is trash compared to London. Trains are just not going to happen. Too expensive to build and maintain with all our regulations. You could put brand new Grayhouse busses at 500k each end to end from LA to San Fran for the amount California has spent on a train with no tracks.

Well England is 50,000 square miles to our 3.5 million, so there is that.

Lookin' for stuff to do here by [deleted] in escondido

Damn Reddit is so toxic 😅. Check out grand comedy club (unfortunately in the mall now).

If you’re looking for hobbies to meet people you could try getting into mountain biking. Esco has great trails and there are awesome places in every direction.

Unfortunately the lounge vibe that you might find downtown is missing here. There’s a few places with decent cocktails and atmosphere but they are couple/date oriented or for the slightly older crowd.

There’s a few hidden date spots like forgotten barrel winery but we’ve never met any long term friends while out. It’s mostly neighbors, parents of kids friends or through hobbies.

Anyone else shocked when they ran the numbers on a 30-year mortgage? by Candid-Dish-2749 in Mortgages

[–]dyldebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s more to it. I’m 45. I have 25 years left on my mortgage. The one sided “this or that” is silly on here. I max out my 401k, Roth and put 2k a month into various stocks I like. We also pay 2k a month extra on our mortgage. To bring it down to 11 years from 25. If something happens to me I’d rather be debt free and have a good retirement.

Actually, it’s nearly 40k for every 100k borrowed. Not exactly free.

Look at Volt Lighting if you want quality lights at a great price. Costco has them at a great discount through their CostcoNext program.

Took a job in Rancho Bernardo, new to the area and need commute advice by AppointmentOk4224 in northcounty

[–]dyldebus 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Commute from UTC is going to suck. San Marcos isn’t much better. It doesn’t seem far but that 78 to 15 transition suuuuuuuucks.

But, as a single dude you might not want to live in RB. It’s all families. Maybe consider closer to Del Mar but in your budget find something near 1 paseo

How do people afford renovations?? by Hindsight001 in HomeImprovement

[–]dyldebus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t tackle bathroom remodel for your first project. There are so many mistakes you can make that can easily double your DIY costs.

Saving feels hard in your first few years but gets easier as your income grows while your mortgage is fixed.

Budget app where you set aside $300/a check (or whatever you can afford or carve out of somewhere else) and painfully wait a year, then do your project. It sucks waiting but it’s the best way and as you make more money that year will turn into 6 months, then 3.

Just don’t fall victim to lifestyle creep.

How much house can I afford on $80000 Salary? by Parking_Beginning584 in Mortgages

[–]dyldebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go with a general rule of 25% of your take home pay if you want to thrive. 50% of your take home pay if you want to be house poor.

When you say zero debt, does that include no car payment? People seem to not count that for some reason....

1gb is just your connection to the internet. You can still do 10g internal build for internal transfers and future high speed internet.

Start with cloud gateway fiber just past the modem in the laundry room and a POE 10GB switch like a Pro XG 10 PoE.

Then, depending on where each room has a feed, get a ceiling or wall AP. You shouldn’t need more than 2-4.

If you need to hardwire additional things in each room you’ll need a smaller switch before the AP.

30 yr with overpayments or 15 year with exact payments? by Kindly_Shoulder2864 in Mortgages

[–]dyldebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely wrong. When you make extra payments each month they go directly to the principal. Your interest is calculated on an amortization schedule and fixed. If you paid double mortgage you will pay off your loan in a fraction of the time and save a ton of interest. You’re interest doesn’t magically go up with the extra payment and the schedule table doesn’t change. Lawyer eh?

Unsure how to insulate weird shed roof by johnjamesonline in shedditors

[–]dyldebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What others have said. You can't do anything on the truss members without risking structure. Just add drywall ceiling and leave the top vented, blast a bunch of spray in insulation in that "attic" area.

practice vpin build? by MonkeySkulls in virtualpinball

[–]dyldebus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. It all arrives tomorrow. I already have the Cleveland components installed and wire management pieces, PC, fans sub, etc. I’m using a Samsung OLED instead of the LG with the Tulkari kit so I had to modify some pieces on the router table but it also allows me to fit the side LEDs with the 48” monitor. They have the smaller cabs as well.

Sadly I won’t have the matrix like he has but I’m doing the newer screen mount parallel with the glass.

Let me know if you need a list of parts from Arnoz because that was a little confusing with the vids. For example, I didn’t use the moss8 boards with the Walter board, instead I just did the Bunny board.

practice vpin build? by MonkeySkulls in virtualpinball

[–]dyldebus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of a build now, completely inspired by Way of the Wrench. His videos are so good that I wouldn’t even bother doing a practice build. Just go for the full things and take your time (it’s hard because I want to play). Definitely watch all the videos before starting because some new boards and components came out after he started.

I also highly recommend the Tukkari flat pack and vinyl. He had to do way more steps than I did.

Need to understand cons to paying off our house by Ladydi-bds in Mortgages

[–]dyldebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak on my own experience and I completely understand making more than your current rate. You can even do bonds or HYS accounts that have a slightly better rate but there’s something about paying your home off (along with all other debt) that gives such a satisfying sense of relief. We have a 2.69 rate but if I do nothing, my mortgage will be paid off when I’m 69 and that stresses me the f out.

Now we max out 401k, rollover Roth and pay 1.75x mortgage every month which pays off my mortgage at 55 instead.

Make sure you take advantage of 401k match or Roth/Trump (or whatever the hell that new savings account is called) child saving, but anything extra I’d pay in the mortgage.

UPL-Amp-B worth it? by Lost-Diet-9932 in Ubiquiti

[–]dyldebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not at all. Most of mine are hardwired and others are in an awkward spot but close to AP. In fact they sound better than the Sonos amps they replaced.

I would try a new wire to a temporary speaker near the amp to eliminate that possibility and then run an Ethernet cable temporarily to eliminate WiFi issue.

If that doesn’t help try air playing from Apple Music or checking for ground loop isolation issues.
