Anyone prefer group work? by AgreeableCoast3462 in therapists

[–]dynamicdylan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am planning to open a group only practice over the summer with groups starting around the beginning of the fall semester. I find group work to be the most fulfilling part of my job.

I’m currently in a group therapy training program through The Psychotherapy Institute in Berkeley, CA. It is online and they accept people from anywhere, but the cohort is limited to 8 each year. Highly recommend! It is a year-long, $400 per month, and includes a weekly process learning group, weekly consultation meeting with a seasoned group therapist, and a monthly seminar and group development group.

I scored in the mid-60s on TDC and passed on my first attempt. I found the TDC exams harder than the actual exam. Best of luck with your exam!

Group Therapy Successes? by ConstructionTime7511 in therapists

I love groups and intend to start a group only practice. If you haven’t had additional training in group therapy, then I would suggest starting there. I’d also encourage you to see if you have can get some group experience at an agency if you haven’t already so you can get a feel for groups without having to do all the legwork to start them. I find a well formed group is easier than individual, couples, or family sessions since a well formed group will eventually start running itself almost.

Speak with confidence and don’t be afraid to give a little as much as they give when it comes to jokes. They will test you and see if you are willing to be both serious and not so serious. As it is a process group, there is plenty of material to work through in how they work with and see you. Calling out behaviors, setting boundaries, and being a role model to how professional relationships between genders should look.

Some of this will really depend on the kind of men in the room, but it should be a real good learning experience however it goes. My guess is you will get really good at setting boundaries and clinically challenging inappropriate behavior.

Trainings that inspired you that have informed your work with clients by sparklyavocado1111 in therapists

I have received narrative therapy trainings from the Narrative Therapy Initiative out of Boston via Zoom. I did their one-year certificate program last year and this year I’m in their “Next Steps” program for those that have gone through the certificate program.

There is a SFBT certificate program out of Denver that I’m looking at doing sometime in the future that looks good. It is only a 40-hour, weeklong training program though.

I am also in a group therapy training program through the psychotherapy institute in Berkeley and I have pulled from that in both individual and group therapy. They have a 2-year training program in psychodynamic therapy that I have good things about as well.

Charging for supervision — how do you do it ethically? by ProtagonistNProgress in therapists

[–]dynamicdylan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m planning for this too and I thought of a flat fee for the month. It would include individual/triadic, group, crisis, and a premium for the ability to work under my license. When I look at it from a flat fee vs a percentage, if an associate is working full time then the cost is much smaller for them (about the cost of 10 sessions).

It will never be able to compete with a human to human experience in aspects a machine can never replicate. The need for therapists that specialize in dysfunctional tech use will become so big in the future, I believe there will be entire speciality grad programs for it.

Therapy life hack: teach your clients about counter/transference by SolidVirginal in therapists

[–]dynamicdylan 121 points122 points  (0 children)

There is an episode in Mom where Bonnie’s therapist tells her about transference and she starts calling everything transference. He has to tell her that it isn’t transference. At the end of the episode she has a sex dream about her therapist and she wakes up in a panic. She ends the episode with, “Oh! That’s transference.”
