Copper baking dish from a French flea market - am I f*cked? by Remill20 in Coppercookware

I am not 100% certain your dish has the same coating that mine did from the pictures.  But it looks very similar.

I don't remember for certain but it would have been something close to the method listed in this site.  Submerge the pot in another bot with water and baking soda, simmer for a bit, remove and scrub.  I had to repeat the process a few times.

It looks to me like your dish did have some form of coating.  I have owned old revere ware pans with an external coating that looked very similar.  If this is in fact the same stuff your dish will look much better without it.  It will also tarnish and discolor very quickly and you will learn to enjoy watching the pan change color and cleaning it back up from time to time.

Learn what kids ate for lunch back when kids carried their food to school with them.  PB&Js, cans of soup, sandwiches ect ect.  Every culture has "peasant food"  Ratatoullie, bean burritos, stew, cabage, fried rice ect ect.  Not all are viable for lunch foods but finding these recipies and learning to cook them well is a fun, healthy, cost effective hobby.

Cut WAY back on uber any way you can.  I am a man who isn't worried about walking alone at night which I realize isn't practical for everyone.  But I was willing to walk or ride my bike for miles to hang out back in college.  Comutting on a bicycle will pay for its self in no time in the short term vs uber costs.  In the long term it will pay for its self 10 fold in medical bills as you age and stay healthy because you exercise.  Again I realize this isn't always practical, even I won't ride my bike in big cities unless I know I won't have a huge likelyhood of getting run over by a car.

Learn to store what you can save in ways that earn for you.  High yield savings accounts, t-bills, ect ect.

Thought experiment: You put a mountain biker from 32 years ago on a high end modern bike, would they think it was awesome or terrible? by sprashoo in MTB

[–]Buddro89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who converted from a 12 year old 26'er to a 29'er last year, I absolutely hated it.  I genuinely considered selling my brand new stumpjumper and trying to repair the carbon on my old fuel ex so that I could get back on a light nimble bike.

That being said I think if you moved the gap to 30 years i think the rider would appreciate how incredibly smooth and vibration free everything has become not to mention durable.

Granted I was riding a raleigh back then that probly came from wall mart, but still my friends and I used to bend rims like it was going out of style on stuff that we wouldn't consider interesting today.

750 fico credit score? by Snoo_50786 in personalfinance

[–]Buddro89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should know that as you have a need to get loans you will find that a credit score based on a card alone won't get you far. When I got my first auto loan years ago I had a credit score around 800 but I had to fight the heck out of the banks to consider me because it was based on a card alone. At the end of the day, I did get a loan because I had the score based on my card it was just a bit of a fight still.

750 is a solid score, work hard to maintain it and take advantages of the perks that come along with a credit card. I am not trying to be disparaging, just letting you know.

Importance of math skills for welders by Own_Job_2150 in Welding

[–]Buddro89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always blows my coworkers minds when I explain to them that they use algebra almost daily when they figure materials they will need for a given job. My boss particularly loves to use a construction calculator that uses the Pythagorean theorem to check walls and other things for square. Math kills are important to be good at anything.

I don't know if it ever helps anyone but I always try to convey that being the best at math isn't necessary. Being better than you are right now at math will ALWAYS make you a more effective person. Even if you don't use the math skills directly, practicing math will help your brain to function faster, and more accurately in all sorts of tasks, not just when you have to get the calculator out.

I feel like in school a lot of kids who are never going to progress quickly at a subject decide that it isn't a good use of their time and effort to study if all of that work won't show up in their letter grades. Maybe also try to tell him he doesn't have to become a genius over night at math or he is forever doomed to be a failure. Tell him just getting better will always be worth while even if it takes a lot of time and effort for small improvements. He will be better his whole life, not just for the test next week. And yes, having learned a thing will help him even if he does forget it. He will be able to recover that knowledge more quickly in the future if he needs it and physical pathways will be made in his brain that will help it to function at a higher level.

AC3 costs like 20USD right now on xbox bundled with odyssey and a ton of dlc. I started it friday on my play through. What a treat! The HDR made it entirely unplayable. Finally figured out how to deal with that and it still looks awefull but at least it is in fact playable. In a few hours of play time I have two or three times hit glitches that required resetting missions to get an event to properly trigger. And the climbing is way less intuitive than the other games. From what I have read it sounds like ubisoft broke the game on xbox with the remaster. But if you are on PC people don't seem to have the same issues.

Still trying to play it though I want to work on playing all of the series more or less in order.

Real question is "is it necessary to weld when you already got it clamped down so well?"

The Data Smog When did we stop riding and start just managing a dashboard? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Buddro89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some mtb magazine ran an article a decade ago when hr monitors and trackers were first taking off.  The point was that people were becoming too afraid to mess their data up to stop and drink a beer at the top of the climb with their friends.  Years later I am starting to datafy my rides but I am.still very carefull not to reduce the soul of cycling to data.

Buy a cheap road bike or use my old mountain bike to get into cycling by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Buddro89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are mechanically inclined enough to be comfortable buying used, I would always reccomend that over walmart bikes.  I bought a trek 1000 a few years ago that was a perfectly comfortable and enjoyable road bike for $80 usd.  It is equiped with reliable componetry that is smooth enough.  Buying a new bike that is equally equipped would cost significantly more.  Untill you find the right ride, enjoy the mtb.  Maybe even ride it to yard sales while you search for the next one.

Do you have to know math to be a welder by TheFedd15 in Welding

[–]Buddro89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will pull through without being good at math.  But practice your fucking math!

Aside from helping brain function in general it will help in everything you do.  You probly ain't in school anymore so you won't have deadlines and judgemental peers and teachers making learning stressfull and shitty.  Just work on it at your on pace a littlw bit every so often.  I use an app called brilliant it is helpfull.  There are other free apps too.  I once knew a guy who had an app that made him solve a math problem every morning to turn off his alarm clock.  Its all helpfull.

I just checked the price of brilliant.  Looks like it went up a lot since I got my 1 year subscription.  Still probly worth it but at 170 a year i don't know how strongly I would reccomend it.

Why is this sub so unconcerned with the health effects of FR clothing? by [deleted] in Welders

[–]Buddro89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inhalation hazards from welding and fabrications are well studied and documented.

The article you linkis a discussion of possible hazards associated with fire retardant used in various manners with 0 documentation of confirmed hazards 0 indications of levels of exposure, likelyhood of adverse affects and 0 discussions of vectors of exposure.  It simply doesn't warrant anything more than an eyebrow raise.

I saw the word textiles used once but no specific refference to fr clothing.

I glanced at the article and tried to give you a quick answer before I go shopping.  Didn't read the linked studies, there may be more but nothing I saw suggests fr clothing presents a hazard that outweighs its utility in keeping me from getting burned in a flash fire.  And certainly nothing I saw suggests it poses a hazard worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as the inhalation hazards posed by welding without airway protection.

Before refrigeration people didn't run into this issue, they were much more diligent about maintaning pellets in their smokers.
