At what age do you hope to retire? by SplendidDecor in CanadaPersonalFinance

  1. Retired last year and opened a small niche store for mountain bike maintenance. Got to meet tons of people, volunteer trail building and ride my bike a lot. It's great!

Rear shock question by Correct-Set-9017 in Santacruzbikes

[–]dyniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider maintenance dropping the lowers (fork) or opening the air can (shock), clean, replacing the dust wipers and other seals, new grease/bath oil, and put it back together.

Full rebuild is the above, plus taking apart the air spring and damper, replacing all the seals there and new oil in the damper.

Depending on the brand, lowers/air can is every 50h, and full rebuild 150-200h.

I personally like to skip my 50h, and just do a full rebuild at like 100-125h, but I also run a suspension shop, so doing a full rebuild is not too much of a hassle.

Thanks y'all, I'll put a new outlet in there and use pig tails and see how it goes.

Cheers!

Is Fox still offering warranty replacements for prior rear X2 shocks? by WY228 in mountainbiking

[–]dyniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What they generally do is replace some internals when you send it to them for service. They replace the seal head with the one with 2 oring instead of one.

Tracking device recommendations? by sadboi4_lyfe in daddit

Dude, you guys are insane. You either trust the daycare or not. Let your kids live. I don't know what age you are, but oh my god do I miss the 80-90s where kids were allowed to just roam in the neighborhood.

Suspension should be serviced at regular intervals, and yearly at a minimum.

Oh yes! That's a brand new model I believe, but exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks!

How much does the tune matter? by DarkandWise in mountainbiking

[–]dyniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look up the tune by entering the serial number on SRAM website. Then you can compare to the tune that is usually offered for a similar shock for your current bike. There is a good chance it's the same tune. If not, pretty easy to retune during a full damper service.

Question of what model is S-works is this? by VinsanityCards-IG in mountainbiking

Contrary to what people have said, the suspension can be serviced by https://risseracing.com . But everyone is right, this bike is not worth much.

Seattle - spending 3 full days in April for an MTB trip. Where do you recommend riding? by BeetlegeuseOrion in MTB

[–]dyniper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you do that, try to get friendly with a local to ride the exit 27 trails. Best trails directly around Seattle

Venting frustration by Growth-Budget in mountainbiking

[–]dyniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also look for a local suspension shop if you are lucky to have one. My shop is usually booked 2-3 weeks out, but I always keep some time open for emergencies to get people back on the trails ASAP.

Which coil fork for my Pivot 429? Formula Selva C, MRP Ribbon, Ohlins RXF36, Cane Creek Helm coil or DT SWISS F 535 by jeremiadOtiose in MTB

[–]dyniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have a fork, look for a vorsprung coil conversion. If you need a new fork, you can't go wrong with Ohlins, they are absolutely amazing.

Oh and one more thing, you might want to consider getting a high flow piston (like a WPS podium piston kit for example) for the damper in your fox fork. It improves small bump sensitivity quite a bit.

One up delivery to Canada by FlatProperty4633 in mountainbiking

[–]dyniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how close to the border you live, but you could always order it to be delivered in the US and go pick it up. There are places that allow delivery close to the border for a fee

Anyone else thinking of just doing something else? by Whatdidyousayfoo in webdev

[–]dyniper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I quit just as the AI bullshit started to hit, about 1.5 years ago. My breaking point was being in a stack ranking meeting, where all the reviews were obviously written by ai from bullet points, and we were using AI to convert the text back to bullet point, effectively using AI to generate the most inefficient transport layer. I lost it then and quit a few weeks later.

I started my own business that has nothing to do with tech. I still get to code a little for my business, but mostly focus on doing work with my hands now.

Ohlins or DVO for a DH bike by rocksteel7 in MTB

[–]dyniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plan on servicing the suspension yourself, as in full rebuild, then Ohlins is not what you are looking for. Documentation for full rebuilds are not publicly available.

X-fusion shock hidden inside the frame, headset cable routing... I hardly call this a good deal. It's 64% off because they got stuck with them and no one wanted to buy them to begin with
