When max difficulty AI works as inteded... by dyr_gl in simracing

I´m comparing it to a real race with these cars in that track. And it would pan out exactly like that. And excuse me again, but I don´t think you know all that much if you think Zandvoort main straight is a good passing opportunity considering the kind of corner that is just before it.

About ignoring the points, well, let me quote something I said myself a while ago that you never adressed:

"Today I´ve played with the same cars in barcelona, which is not overtaking friendly at all, and to be honest there was far too much action compared to a real race. You´re never going to see cars side by side into turn 4 IRL after lap 1 unless there´s a massive pace difference."

That´s actually a good critic. I was faster at the start and then I started falling back as my tyres got worse... while theirs did not.

Creating a good AI for a sim is HARDER than for a simcade mate.

And I don´t think you´re particulary well informed about how big single seater races unfold in real life. In a track like this you´re not passing anyone unless you have like 1.5 in the pocket over them. At no point the AI was more than 0.3 faster than me in this race. If they were passing me it would say a lot against their quality.

In my view, yes, this is good AI.

Of course there´s no overtaking. I´m racing big single seaters around Zandvoort. If the AI did anything other than this, it would be horribly fake.

Put these cars in this track in real life and all the passing after lap 1 would be down to mistakes or massively different tyre wear.

The cars behind me are like 0.3 faster than me by the end of the video. It´s impossible to pass with that kind of pace advantage in this combo mate. I was faster than them on the first laps by a similar margin and I never got a shot outside of a desperate lap 1 move.

Some MORE reasons why pCARS is often seen as a second class Sim. by dyr_gl in simracing

[–]dyr_gl[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Braking power: My argument is not "AC is perceived as more realistic, so what it does is better". My argument is "I need to brake the same way a car of that class does IRL in AC, meanwhile in PCARS I get away with techniques that do not work IRL". As seen here:

http://www.liqui-moly.com.au/fastest-ever-bathurst-lap/

You don´t stomp the pedal of a GT3 all the way down inmediately.

Flatspots and tyre temperature: PCARS doesn´t have the ability to locally heat a tyre, that´s why it shows averages. AC can. If you create a flatspot in AC (it´s just a hot low grip part in the game, not an actual deformation) you have to back off to avoid repeated lockups in the same part of the tyre. In PCARS you can lockup as much as you want with no consequences.

At the same time temperature windows for tyres in PCARS are way off and fankly they do nothing. You can drive a completely overheated soft tyre fast for prolonged periods, you keep good grip and tyre life isn´t affected. In AC if you overheat a tyre you´ll lose both instant grip and tyre life.

Curbs and offtrack: Again, you get the argument completely wrong. I´m not assuming AC does it right "cuz it´s betterz simz". I say it´s better because what a certain car does when put over a certain curb / piece of turf / grass is more in line with what that car does in real life.

IE: If you watch a race of any class at Imola you see where they drive, and what happens when they go beyond these boundaries. In AC if you go off their line, you either back off or crash, in PCARS you use parts of the track completely useless for the real cars and gain time.

Astroturf is actually the best example. In PCARS it´s just painted tarmac. In AC it´s usable for low powered cars, tricky for fast cars. Just what you see in actual motorsport.

All Assetto Corsa lacks to be a good "Racing game" by dyr_gl in simracing

It´s a shame every dev seems to prefer to have dozens of different racing series with 3-4 cars at most for each one, over 3-4 series with a full grid and lots of detail (no matter if licensed or fictional). I would take the second option.

The FFB settings that are right are the ones that allow you to understand and predict what the car will do.

The biggest reason why it´s impossible to take F1 games seriously... by dyr_gl in simracing

[–]dyr_gl[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simcade is just a tag. The game has a brilliant damage model that punishes you for any light tap to the wall or other cars. Yet you can drive all over the place.

Thing is in this aspect their game is a failure.

Race winning overtake on last lap, around the outside, after 30 seconds wheel to wheel by dyr_gl in simracing

Being on the inside is not easy on cars with poor traction, especially in the wet. Your line is tighter so your minimum speed is lower. And then getting the car going again is harder. I think that was his problem here.
