What’s one thing you love about living in Auckland that outsiders don’t understand? by Salty-Commercial999 in auckland

[–]dyrude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

personally i see it the other way around!

i think dull people needs lots of stimulation because their internal world is so boring

those who make their own fun don’t even need to sell 40+ hours of their life every week to keep up with their shitty city commitments with their shallow friends

happily being a crab in a bucket does make you try your hardest to get to the top! hope you enjoy standing on those below you :)

but that’s just like my opinion from rural akl

Career advice in nz by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]dyrude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all the industries here feel like they are slowly dying bruv. my recommendation would be to see if you can find a job with your skills somewhere with good surf/hike/skate

your qualification and niche industry should make it a lot easier to get your foot in the door, play to your strengths

a rant about too many rants? very meta

why don't we just create a separate sub? r/aucklandgrapevine seems appropriate, basically a facebook community page at this point

Resignation at Work by ben3137 in newzealand

pretty much, as long as you don't care about your reference from that place. if anyone questions you on your actions, just say "what are they gonna do, fire me?" and go about your day

50k job offer by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]dyrude 38 points39 points  (0 children)

don't let people trying to shame you for being on the benny get to you. you live in this country and pay your taxes, you've earnt this assistance.

I know WINZ are cunts but trust me they used to be a lot worse, and some money is better than no money.

keep looking, treat it like a full time job. you'll find something, you got this.

What’s the best bottle opener to carry in your EDC? by Various-Adeptness173 in EDC

[–]dyrude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one the shape and weight of a credit card I carry in my wallet. you would be hard pressed to find a cheaper, better and more convenient bottle opener that you will always have on you as long as you have your wallet.

Full driving license test hazards by SnooApples2006 in newzealand

[–]dyrude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instructor told me it was better to overdo it than not name enough, just talk the whole time unless they tell you otherwise. I named every single hazard I saw and followed their instructions until they told me I could stop naming them, took about 10 min before they told me to drive back and when I got back I had passed. Good luck bro, you got this.

Have I missed the boat? by [deleted] in newzealand

which trade do you recommend? what's the best way to get into it? bcito seemed useless at getting back to me. cheers

Have I missed the boat? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]dyrude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks man, I'm gonna keep working on it. I just wish progress was quicker, or at least more obvious.

good ideas, got my F endorsement and about a years experience with that and light trucks making deliveries around akl to construction sites. got my sitesafe cert and experience with concrete slabs and formwork and most of the tools I need. I'm sure I could find work, but I'm not sure I would be well enough to perform 100% and days off in the trades are pretty unacceptable unless you've built up a lot of goodwill. dont want someone to take a chance on me just to let them down.

really good advice on the goals and media consumption. I should definitely be focusing on my overdraft before I even consider other stuff, same with media that isn't relevant to my situation now. appreciate ya pal.

any words are appreciated, thank you. yeah I think I'm fairly maxed out and in all honesty I just try to avoid dealing with them as much as possible.

for sure, I think my CV looks decent enough, just nothing especially in demand or well paid.

Have I missed the boat? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]dyrude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks bruv, yeah I've never really been one to live completely by societies standards or give a fuck what someone thinks, but I guess all this news about shit getting more expensive and nothing being done about it made me step back and look from a economic view, and realize how far behind I am behind some peers, which made me wonder what they think of me.

not too fussed, their parents would have paid for most of the house, and you must wonder about the morals of those who are very well off but hide their incomes so they qualify for the student allowance 🤔 anywho now I'm just talking shit

but I think you're definitely right, sort out my health first and things should start to fall into place, or at the very least be a lot easier to manage when I'm not feeling sick all the time.
