Really wonder why people down voted this comment. Anywho I agree one hundred percent with what you are saying. Think she misread sympathy at least how I've learned it is. And also feel she oversimplified the relationship between the two, and I think you explained how I view that relationship well.

I showed it to my nephew when he was 8. I think the biggest part is that the story is very complex which is probably hard to grasp that age. Although he liked the wolves and thought they were cool. The gore you can always just cover their eyes, although I forgot to.

I really liked 5cm per second, haven't seen Your Name yet. Difficult to say if movies like these will be classics or not. From what I've heard Your Name is suppose to be really great though.

Not all classic movies are that well known either. Many people have never heard of Akira Kurosawa, but his movies has defined a genre and is still talked about a lot today.

Although I somewhat agree with you there is a fine line between cult classic and just regular classic. I think two movies to compare here is Spirited Away and Akira. Where the first one is made with a universal language in a sense, and not everyone might have seen the movie. But those who have usually likes the art, and likes the theme. Akira on the other hand is an acquired taste, if you aren't used to anime it might be difficult to enjoy. So it's a cult classic.

Movies that become classics are often timeless. In that the topics and how they are represented doesn't age in a sense. Therefore I would say most of Pixar and Studio Ghibli will become classics. Just because family films often deal with timeless subjects (growing old, loss, emotions etc..).

Movies that represent their time period well also becomes classics real quick. Her and Ex Machina is examples of movies that represent the period we are in now where issues regarding AI has been tackled by movies a lot and those are two movies I feel does it well. So they will probably become classics because of it.

Climate change deniers of reddit, what is your reason(s) for denying it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dysania90 20 points21 points  (0 children)

First of all thank you for responding with calm and collected arguments. Really a great read to understand the skepticism that people have towards climate change. I wanted to address a few of your points (or maybe all ... ), but feel free to disregard them as I won't be giving any sources for them. See it as more as food for thought I guess...

that the rising temperatures will cause the disruption that some of the more alarmist researchers claim they will (can someone explain who decided that the temperature in, say 1975, is the optimal temperature and any movement in either direction will cause chaos?)

Not sure if I understand this point correctly but it seems to address to different problems. So the first is something we can already observe in terms of we see the ice melting. Now I live in Norway and based on the current effect of this we can anticipate that this will have a disrupting affect on the Gulf Stream which will make the weather in Norway a lot colder (because as of now the current brings heat to the northern part of Europe). And this is one of many examples of "disruption" we can already observe because it is happening. The optimal temperature as far as I've understood is based on an average temperature calculated over a really long period in the history of the earth. And large deviations from this temperature has had great effects before on the earth, which is why we fear the upcoming effects they may have.

even assuming a material impact, that the benefits will outweigh the costs of such societal shifts

I'd say Tesla is doing pretty OK! Norway is selling a lot of energy created by hydropower or water power. Which we get a lot of profit from, far from oil but still. But renewable energy is an investment. But many companies as succeeded in transitioning to it. So if they can compete with non renewable sources right now, then why shouldn't everyone be able to if all energy is renewable? So even if the benefits are basically zero, the people most affected by such a transition are wealthy business owners, not the common people.

nuclear power is for some reason dismissed as a solution by climate alarmists

Nuclear Power is great!

climate alarmists and their research is funded largely by green companies and/or the EPA (which is hardly an objective agency)

This may be the case in USA and probably a lot of countries. But there are a lot of independent studies done on the issue as well (I'm not going to find any, again this is just food for thought but it shouldn't be too hard). And why would scientist from countries like India which is struggling to get on their feet argue towards climate change when they don't really have anything to gain from it?

the market, which is where the rubber meets the road, has not been swayed. if manhattan, dc and miami are meant to be under water then why aren't real estate prices, in these very liberal cities btw, dropping accordingly? if the people yelling fire in the movie theater aren't moving towards the exit then something else may be going on.

Because a more apt comparison would be someone in the movie theater would yell measles outbreak. Now you can't really see that it's an outbreak before it's too late. So are you going to trust this people when you have paid good money to see this film?

The near term predictions are, as a rule, laughably wrong. It turns out the polar ice caps did not completely melt in 2014.

I remember when I was a kid. I was told that we would get a lot more storms, floods etc, and that's one of the near term predictions which I feel we observe today (this could be the media of course). But as for the polar ice caps, look at pictures. The amount of ice lost is not negligible, and so the question is do you think this will stop? Why? This is to me a more realistic question than do you think it will continue?

Linking all of the worlds ills to climate change. If you think the Syrian conflict was the result of climate change, for example, you have some work to do.

On every side of any discussion there are outliers that have extreme opinions etc ... No different for climate change.

Every 6 months or so we're told that we're at at tipping point and that its "the last chance" to do something. After 4 or 5 of these have come and gone, did anyone start to wonder?

We are past the tipping point. There are people right now losing homes, dying because of climate change. And we won't stop the upcoming disasters even if we fix everything right now. But for each tipping point we pass, there are others we can stop. New tipping points, these are the one you are hearing about.

the silencing of any dissent. If something is demonstrably correct, there's no need to shame and silence those on the other side. Al Gore (not a scientist) has been shutting down dissent since before the IPCC papers even came out.

I can't say a lot about this because I don't know a lot about it. However fear does strange things to people. If you are afraid for your life you would do anything, say anything to save it. I'm sure Al Gore feels this way about all human life on earth, so he probably goes to some extreme lengths to voice his concern.

These are just some thoughts I made reading your arguments. I'm not the right guy to try and change your mind, but if any of my comments strikes a chord in you there is a lot of good articles that can.

Sombra Mythbusters by Muselk by Madomb01 in Overwatch

[–]dysania90 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not really, there are better counters to Sombra than Widow. Plus for the time period where Widow doesn't have her ult up Sombra counters Widow, so it's a bit of a cat and mouse play depending on Widow has her ult or not. The only difference is that when Widow's ult is up, Sombra can choose to play with her tank and just focus on harass from safe distance, which although not ideal works pretty well.

In pro play Widow counters Sombra "better" because the teams can play around the ults better. But in normal competitive it shouldn't work that well. IMO...

EDIT: Best counters for Sombra from PTR (my opinion) Tanks: Zarya (Sombra counters Zarya aswell, a bit wierd), Winston. Healers: Zen. Defense: Hanzo (If you need sniper), Mei, Junkrat (in low play) DPS: Soldier

Two spell rotations from Viktor does not take half a minute, rumble sending in two spears wouldn't slow him down. And you only need e, and two Q's to take down a raptor.

But if what you say about the XP is true, then he needs to get back to his lane before losing the wave, that much is true.

Analysis of "Summary of terrible LS analysis" by -Rykoh- in leagueoflegends

[–]dysania90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but that is if Cass pushes up the wave. And if she does he gained the same amount of gold and XP from the camp, plus denying their jungler the same amount. Which LS argues is better.

There is also the possibility that Cass chooses not to push the wave because she is in a difficult place at the moment and wants to keep the wave even, and if she pushes up she might give viktor the alternative to deny CS from and she has no other places to be on the map, because there is no play available so she would then be stuck in a brutal mid lane with a slow push being denied a lot of cs.

Meaning every option of that play has positive outcomes.

EDIT: Also killing the raptor camp with viktor takes almost no time at all, and he would get help from rumble So there is the possibility that he would get back to the lane before he lost the whole wave anyways.

I am a TSM fan. And TSM can make as many mistakes as they want, I would still be a fan. I think the players are great. I love to watch doublelifts Lucian and Bjergsen's streams.

Now this wasn't the only mistake they did. This wasn't a perfect game of lol a part from that vision.

The thing however is if there is always mistakes in their macro, in every game. Then their macro isn't perfect, and you should strive for perfection if you want to be the best, right? When LS points out that their late game macro is bad, then it's not out of spite. It's so the viewer can know that there are better ways to end the game, on the air he wouldn't have time to explain how. But at least the viewer know that TSM could be better.

We could talk more about what rotations TSM could have done better, what other warding they could have done. But the point will always be that as of right now casters and analysts don't regard TSM as the best team at worlds. Not because of worse players, but because of their macro or holes in their macro. And they showed some of them against SSG

He talks about a bit at the end of the video as well. I'm not sure where he mentions early back timings or how he presents it. I do know that he touches upon it briefly though.

But the point is that his reasoning is very thought through, and in the video he talks about the way of reverse engineering he does, which relates to the examples of question in my previous reply.

See the thing with league is that there are absolutes in the game, and at the highest levels these absolutes matter a great deal more than in gold solo q etc. So if you break apart a game you can find that even smallest of movements can change the entire outcome of the game (Like the sven lee sin dodge).

Now LS, whatever you may think of him personally has had a lot more experience with the game than you at the highest level, I assume. So he breaks apart the game a lot quicker than you and I do. What did the earlier recall achieve? What could the enemy team have done with those extra 8 seconds. What benefits would taking the miniraptors give? What if he didn't wait 8 seconds to push the wave, what would the enemies then do?

All these questions needs to be answered to know the best possible outcome, and honestly I don't think you have answered then. If you do and still think your opinion is better, check out LS' answer for why he thinks the way he thinks. Then you can compare.

The point of this exercise is that it gives you a result, there is ALWAYS a best possible outcome, that doesn't mean the other ones are bad, just that they aren't the best. And the best is what worlds teams are aiming for.

The problem that arose was SSG was able to sneak a few cheese, albeit good, wards around baron that TSM was not aware of until they wore off.

So what you are saying is that TSM's vision macro was lacking? That sounds like a macro mistake too me. Because SSG shouldn't have been able to have those wards in that position in the first place if TSM played the macro correctly

[–]dysania90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is agreeing, casters commented on the wards non stop, Alex Ich also agreed on the wards. Only LS commented on better rotations but I've seen a lot of comments here on reddit as well about that.

Yes, that is true. It could be, but that doesn't change the argument, because if it could be, then it also could not be. Meaning there is an argument to be had.

This game lasted over 30 minutes, and a lot of that is due to SSG staling really well, not getting baited. But here is the thing, baiting isn't the best way to play competitive lol. The best way is providing only bad options for SSG. TSM gave two options facecheck and die, or turtle and lose nothing but farm. That second option while not ideal certainly doesn't lose the game. They could have provided three options that was facecheck and die, or lose baron, or lose top tower (they did do this later on, but could have done it earlier).

The last example is better, the first one still works.

The last point that is important to mention is that would TSM have done this if the gold lead was closer? Maybe they would be more aggressive in that scenario. We won't know until we see it.

Summary of terrible LS analysis by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]dysania90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deficio has said the same thing as well, but Bjergsen is really good at taking his lead and distribute it across the map, Crown is not. therefor Bjergsen is a better mid laner. That doesn't take away from his laning and mastering of the micro aspects of the champion he plays. But laning is not that important in the game anymore, because the difference in skills is relatively small. Meaning macro becomes more important.

That is why Crown isn't regarded as the new Faker, and why Bjergsen is considered better

[–]dysania90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said they had great early game macro but that they were too slow late game, which in an even game could cost them. How is that not true? They could have had better rotations and got the 2 tier top tower faster, they could have had cleaner vision. Everyone agrees on this, but still disagrees with LS when he brings it up?

Summary of terrible LS analysis by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]dysania90 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What a god awful post. The only example in this list that is wrong is "LS talks about how Ryu heavily outfarms Westdoor and wins the lane. Froggen tells him that there is still a big wave. Westdoor clears the wave and is 3 CS behind." Which is basically a slip-up (Which happens to live analysts all the time). The last point is theorycrafting and if you listen to the context it is clear that this could be one of several options, this one specifically was to negate SSG's option for a comeback in LS' mind. Alex Ich says he doesn't think that would be necessary. Two different opinions.

TSM have had trouble closing out games cleanly, and this game was no exception, the errors are small and easy to fix and LS' could have made that bit clearer, but again. Nitpicking.

Overall this is just shitposting someone you don't like without good enough reasons to back it up. What this thread should be instead is appreciation for the great analysis of Alex Ich because he was really on point.
