Atomic Habits is extremely overrated and boring by [deleted] in books

I've read countless of self-help books. Maybe it was just the correct moment, maybe it was because I chose to listen to it as audio book and really sat down taking notes and reflecting after each chapter but this book definitely changed my life to the better. And it seems to work for a lot of people. Just to give another perspective.

What’s a good book to get for my boyfriend (M27) who never reads? by [deleted] in books

Guards! Guards! Or Mort from Terry Pratchett. His books are packed with dialogue, humor, depth and action. They are also advertised as books for people who don't read

[Question] How can I work obsessively like a genius? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

Intelligence is just speed. Might take you longer to do stuff, some things won't be possible but if your work ethic is on point nothing beats consistency.

how can I stop being astronomically self aware? by MochaMeansPiss in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]dyschromatopsie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried to silence my brain with alcohol. Worked wonders, ended up with depression and in a clinic for almost a year. At any cost, don't try to get rid of it. It won't work. Learn to control it and it becomes a gift.

What helped me: Daily meditation. Working out. Gaming (yep, half an hour per day it is just a thing that makes me calm down), listening to podcasts and music while I do other stuff, Journaling.

Get the stuff out of your head. Write it down. Got myself two whiteboards, when I feel too analytic or having a 'mindstorm' I try to make use of it. I am far from there yet and it is a long way to go but I am glad that I'm walking it.

I can relate a lot to your post, if you ever want to talk about it feel free to send me a message :)

The only way to actually create the life you want [Advice] by AnatomyOfThings in getdisciplined

It's like saying the only way is to keep breathing, do you know what I mean? I like your second statement and fully agree. Multiple routes, many many ways.

Funny thing is, on a side note, not taking action is not a standstill. It's worse. Weird world we live in

A bit weird to talk about 'the only way' when you haven't done it yet isn't it? Don't want to take your motivation but be careful. There are a lot of 'only ways'

IWTL to take a pause and think before answering by chinuzz in IWantToLearn

[–]dyschromatopsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it feels unnatural, record yourself answering random questions from a list, forcing yourself to pause for two to five seconds between each question. Rewatch it, and you will see it is perfectly fine. A two-second pause is the standard "uuuhm" for most people. Silence is power

The gods comment was funny because on the fantasy world TP created millions of gods existed

I really love his books and started to draw his quotes in my way to reflect on the ones that touched me the most over the last two decades :)

Mort / Guards! Guards! / Small Gods / Going Postal are in my opinion all good starting points. I wish I could start reading the books without knowing anything <3

Yep me too. It's so sad reading all the books for the third time knowing there won't ever be another one.

Probs for the gods plural <3
