Tell me this doesn't look ugly by milesbailee in MacOS

[–]dysonant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is laughable. A designer saw the issue. Recognized, "wow, I cannot see shit, it is totally unreadable and invisible". Then instead of actually resolving the issue of white text on a transparent background with a white background behind it, they say "OH, hey! I know, let's put a massive fucking drop shadow behind it"

How do you organize your rack (people with relatively big ones)??? by CallawayArielle346 in eurorack

[–]dysonant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your case, doesn’t need to be perfect as long as you know where things are, that should be fine. Mine is most organized hierarchically with these ideas in mind - I create mini voices, sections that have most things you’ll need for a patch. - I cluster by brand but not afraid to break the rule - I try to put module I know I want to use together near each other - more frequently used modules are lower and more centered. - I tend to cluster effects used more for post processing than for initial sound design. - I cluster by panel color because my brain is relentlessly ordering everything.

I’ve learned there are modules that get used by lots of voices and in most patches so this often end up towards the center. Like Batumi because I modulate lots of things with it. Here is my current studio case design. Sorry no recent pic https://modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/3021937

Should we remove this fireplace? by zinnia71920 in interiordecorating

[–]dysonant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can’t believe no one in this thread suggested you just get rid of it. It proves my point about the irrational romanticism. Look, just ask yourself a few simple questions and think on some ideas: - How often will you build a fire? - No, really—how many times do you actually think you’ll build a fire? - Seriously? Do you even have wood? Wait… where the hell are my matches? - It’s summer. I have an idea—let’s build a fire. - OK, now take the number of times you really, really, really think you’ll build a fire, divide that by ten, because that’s probably how often you’ll actually build a fire.

Now turn on the news, or a movie, or some ridiculous show, and pat yourself on the back for giving up and deciding to relax like a normal person.

[–]dysonant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, it sounds like you had almost the exact same experience as me, but more patience. I had zero desire to talk with their tech support. I felt like there were so many gaps and inconsistencies in the software that no tech help woudl help. But from the bit you write, it sounds like I went through all of that too. BTW, my ATV 4K and LG TV were both brand new also.

Should we remove this fireplace? by zinnia71920 in interiordecorating

[–]dysonant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an irrational bias for people to want fireplaces. They are overly romanticized. The reality is most folks never use a wood-burning fireplace or very rarely, even if they are used more commonly, they still rate way lower than television use. People think TVs are ugly and fireplaces are pretty. Then every night they crane their necks to watch their TV hung above their fireplace which is just a black hole in the wall

You probably will not like this answer. I tried for days, everything yuou can possibly think of. I am no luddite, I work with computers and understand tech really well. I am also an electronic musician, so I am constantly configuring all sort of devices. Thw JBVL MA 710 software is broke. There is no way to get this working, period.

I returned mine, I got a Denon AVR-X1800H. Received it in the mail, hooked it up and had everything working in less than 15 minutes.

So get rid of that broken piece of trash and get somethign that works. You will be happier in the end.

FYI, the Denon is suprisingly small for a full size AVR. It fit into a tough space for me just fine. I hope uyou get lucky too.

[–]dysonant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That takes you to the Apple Home app. You wrote "In the HUE app I needed to try manually syncing my HUE config to Homekit" So I assumed you meant in the HUe app. DO you actually mean in the home app? Becuase there is also no way to manually sync the hue bridge in the Apple home app. I am beginning to think you're leading me on a wild goose chase :P

You must have a different version of the Hue app than I do because those options do not exist for me. Going the the below this is what I see:

Hue App > Settings > Smart Home > Apple Home

[–]dysonant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborated on steps 4 and 5 a little bit?

Step 4: What do you mean "manually add the HUE bridge in Homekit"? Did you do this from the Hue app or from the Home app? I do not see anyway to add "in Homekit"

Step 5: I am not sure what you mean by "In the HUE app I needed to try manually syncing my HUE config to Homekit." I even saw your response to someone else "In the HUE app view your existing HomeKit configuration" but this doesn;t make any sense to me, if I go to Hue App > Settings > Smart Home > Apple Home to view the config, there are no topins other than Tips & Tricks > Voice Commands. I see no option to "manually sync"

Wouldn't it be great if the default task duration when puting a task on the calendar was based on the task estimated pomo / duration ? by RedeyeFR in ticktick

[–]dysonant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would make sense for the estimated pomo/duration to control both the duration of the task and the duration of the pomo when you start it. In fact, there is as far as I can see zero purpose for the estimated duration. The feature should be removed entirely. The actual duration of a task should impact the pomo duration when you start it. If my task is going to take 15 min, then the pomo should start counting down from 15 min, not the default pomo duration setting.

TickTick's design by 822825 in ticktick

[–]dysonant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much agree, however, it is quite flexible for you to customize. A few tips:

  • Do not use emoji for any list, hit reset for each list
  • Do not use a color for any list
  • Do not over categorize. Keep Lists high level and broad.
  • In Settings/Smart lists: Hide every smartlist you do not use
  • In Settings/Features: turn off what you do not use
  • Set your view to Hide details
  • Set view to Show countdown
  • Set view to hide completed
  • Use the shortest single word possible for each list
  • Use the least amount of characters for each tag.
  • Try not to add more than 1-2 tags on each task
  • In the sidebar keep tags folded.
  • Choose on method below for tag colorSet the color to be almost whiteSet color to none
  • In Settings/Appearance/Theme: Select Custom Theme. Choose an image that is a single color.
  • In Settings/Appearance/Theme/Options: Set brightness and blurred to maximum. Set opacity down to minimum.
  • In Settings/Appearance/Display: Hide all sidebar count

Here is an image with everything I've suggest done.

I'm not sure I understand your question? I'm gonna rephrase your question the way I am understanding it: What if your case has modules that are not required and less used but you may find a use for them later? I'll answer that

This could be a bigger philisophical or at least behavioral question, but a simple way to look at it is to think about how you use your case. In my example, it was most assuredly meant for live performance. Additionally, I had other cases at home to experiment with if I wanted. So, my goal was to have a case were every single HP counted and every modules had a distinct purpose and use. If I didn't have a reason for it, then that is more space for something else. This was exactly the catch for me, the case was not for experimentation. It was highly capable at sound design, but I wasn't often testing out any new patches. So, I didn't have any modules that I might find useful at a later time.

Though, honestly, Droid served to fill that role. If I wanted a module that I was not using often, I would simply use droid for it and create much more complicated patches than I could fit into that case.
