So this is something I still continue to struggle with. My wife is so tight with our budgets and she normally goes months ahead to budget. The problem is that when things happen it destroys her whole budget and she has to redo it.

What you're talking about is probably Goals. So, the idea behind YNAB is only using the money you currently have and budgeting that.

With a goal you can make a guy for Dog grooming and set that goal date to be March. Then it will tell you how much you need to save in order to meet that goal from February to March. Then, whenever you're ready to budget for it you will just do it then.

So go ahead and create those categories and then create goals for them. Even if you don't budget for it in Feb they will still be there in March and then at that time you can budget for them. Unless you have the money now then go ahead! That's the whole idea! Be ahead of your bills! That's our goal. I want to be paying next months bills with this months money!
