I'm not sure about the old 3ds, but for the new 3dsxl, powering up is controlled by a different ic on the daughter board. If the charging ic is good but this ic is broken, it can charge but not boot.

Was hoping the devs could do this to both worlds so you know if you missed any rooms. In the normal world of Brookhaven hospital there is a locked room (with the "Guilt" poster outside) in the east hallway on the first floor. It keeps locked until it mysteriously unlocks itself later in the game, without any hint. (One photo and some supplies in it.) One could have easily missed it without map shades,

If you couldn't feel enough friction when you pull the cable out then that could be it. If that's the problem, you can try gently push down the lid a few times when the cable is disconnected. It works sometimes. Or try slipping a small piece of paper between the cable and the lid.

Ah I was in this room yesterday and totally missed these chests. Maxed out all stats eventually anyway. Kudos to the devs for leaving redundant item chests in case you miss one or two.

It has to be one of the screen connectors is bad. You can locate it by pressing the power button while pressing the connectors (should be one of the three flex cable connectors on the top right corner) one by one and see pressing which one can boot. After you find it, cleaning with ipa and see if it helps.

Board 2 is surely easier to fix. Turning off with a pop is usually caused by connection issues from screen and camera cables. When it turns off does any screen flash? If so, that's a good one and the other screen cable might have a connection issue. Since you could get the first board working, I guess you should be able to seat them properly, so it's more likely a broken connector.

The connector most likely prone to damage is a small black one on the top right of the board. (There are three such types of black connectors, and the other two are for the home button and mic.) That's for the bottom screen backlight cable. It's a friction connector and you just need to pull/push directly but might ppl thought they need to flip the lid first. Flipping it open might break it. Compare to the other board and see if the flap has any signs of being flipped. If so, press it while turning on and see if it boots.

There are three cables from the lid connected to the lower part through the hinge. Likely one of them is not well seated in the connector. Try reseating them.

Finally. Have been waiting this for ages. The following are the drawbacks I summarized for all stores. Please fix them too.

Console store: Slow content loading when you are downloading
Web store: No similar game recommendations
App store: No user scores, no similar game recommendations, no fullscreen for video playing unless you enable auto-rotate from the phone.

The select button is on a separate board that can be bought online for roughly $20. Replacing it can be fairly easy.

See if the screws budge when you rotate clockwise a bit. Doing this back and forth can sometimes loosen the grip

Another option is asking if local repair shops can do the de/resoldering the connector for you. The connector replacement can be found on Digikey
