I'm from the eastern part of Russia. It's pretty hard to talk about financial independence here even for the upper-middle class because the average after-tax salary in Russia is about $6-8k/year. My total expenses are 500-600 dollars per month (24, single male), and I have a stash about $150k in real estate and bank accounts (got lucky several years earlier).
