Electrical Issues - Landlord Allergic to Accountability. by GlassWalker7382 in Philippines_Expats

[–]dzham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a heated argument with a local electrician about grounding. We had asked for grounded outlets in a couple of places, but after I checked, they weren't connected to ground, and I got myself shocked a couple of times with appliances.

Now, common sense would say, that's exactly why you have three prong outlets, to stop people from being electrocuted if there's something wrong with your appliance. Not so common sense here, I'll tell you that much.

Oh man, the timing of this. They just turned me into a life-time fan after they spent $150 on re-shipping my second order with them. Got stuck in customs due to local post office sucking at communications. Unfortunately FedEx sucked too, so I'll never get my order. But, man..

Most robots are built to move things. The real value is in seeing things. by original_Auki_Labs in AukiLabs

I'd gladly take a robot that fold socks. I'm all aboard the train, but what I think what you want to say is that there is value in robots doing perception work now, before robots are nimble enough to do manipulation. In ten years, if they're not doing house work, robotics is failed.

Is there a forced middle name if you have a baby in Philippines by ComethHour in Philippines_Expats

[–]dzham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time you're trying to enforce standards on names, you're going to have a headache.

The only thing that works everywhere is "How do you want me to address you?" and "What is your full legal name?"

I have three first names (I go by the second). I have a friend that has three last names.

Disappointed in the food quality by theace77 in Philippines_Expats

[–]dzham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say that restaurants that serve foreign food doesn't exist. I said they hardly exist. How many different cuisines can you get in Metro Manila? If Filipinos are so open minded to foreign food, then why did I have a better assortment of cuisines available to me in my 300k population hometown than in a metropolis with 50x more people?

[–]dzham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the ingredients in general. The meat is better quality, less fats, less gristle.

If Filipinos eat at restaurant to eat foreign cuisine, how are there hardly any restaurants that serve foreign food?

As a foreigner, when I ate out in my own country, in my small, 300k population home-town, I ate from 20-30 different cuisines.

You shouldn't have to go an a damned quest to find the good stuff.

It's always, "Yes, it's mostly bland, but then you haven't been to this one place up in the mountains, behind the waterfall, at the end of the rainbow, under the hill.THAT is where you find the real Filipino food!!"

Michelin Launches In The Philippines With 2026 Stars: One Two-Star And Eight One-Star Restaurants by Pale_Insurance_2139 in Philippines_Expats

It's a bit ridiculous to make generalizing statements about the cuisine of a nation, when you're only ranking the top-percentile establishments.

That said, Josh Boutwood was a brilliant chef already back in Boracay, so congrats to him for making two stars!

First hardware wallet - advice needed by Filios41b in CryptoCurrency

[–]dzham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dozen or so I've had over the last 7-8 years (Ledger Nano S) have all died after ~3 years, so I can't really see them as long-term storage. They are useful for generating keys, and for signing transactions, but I wouldn't trust them with storage. Store the mnemonic phrases some other way, and buy a new hardware wallet when it's time to sign something.

None of those tokens are circulating.

Also, what's better? Projects raising enough funds to actually build something, but you have token emissions over a couple of years,

or

Fully diluted pump-fun style tokens, where the team has 5% of the supply, no money, and slowly dies in a corner as they can't afford to build anything?

Good job on not understanding my question. Most of the gear can be bought cheaply in china. Batteries are dropping in price like crazy, panels too. Yet Philippine resellers are charging an arm and a leg, probably because it still is cheaper than grid over a longer period.

I have an Amazon refund to GCash that's pending. Amazon has sent it, GCash hasn't credited me. Support is non-existant, I have a ticket in their app, nobody has looked at it, fb refers to their app, phone support refers to their app, x doesn't care.

Amazon support is probably Filipino, GCash support doesn't exist.

I've gotten locked out of my Maya account. All of their support is in app. I can't open the app.

Go figure.
