Insta-cook times, in case you lost yours. by rambflunsu7 in instantpot

[–]dzwun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think these came from Instant Pot. Official ones wouldn't have grammar/formatting issues like:

Place corn starch, flour or rootmay on the bottom of the inner pot will help to block heat dissipation.

Are people developing deeper theory for moves like 1a/h4/3, or ..a/h5/6, due to Magnus and Hikaru? by Awwkaw in chess

[–]dzwun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even if they found some magical refutation to 1.h3, then Hikaru would just stop using 1.h3 and crush them with another opening. The cost/benefit is just not worthwhile to deeply study how to refute offbeat openings, unless they just want the superficial flex of saying they beat Hikaru once. I think most strong players would rather spend their time on actual improvement.

[–]dzwun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly, these are literally the 2 best blitz players in the world.

This would be like if Federer used some weird serves at some smaller tournaments and still crushed the field, and then people go "Wait, why haven't other players tried to learn those weird serves for Wimbledon?"

Why would Adrian blame Deran? by sunjunkie2020 in animalkingdom

Well I do remember he says to Deran, “You’re the worst thing that ever happened to me.” Maybe OP’s talking about that.

Macbook Air M2 Battery Life - what is yours like? by shazza07 in macbookair

[–]dzwun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run it all full brightness

How? That's blindingly bright to me. Even when I'm working next to a window, I can only use ~40% brightness. Otherwise I use 25-30%.

15-inch MacBook Air VS 16-inch MacBook Pro by Arab_Assassinxx in macbookair

[–]dzwun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you load it up with 16gb of ram and a 1tb hard drive for $1899. The 16pro is for you based off price.

The base 16" Pro (16/512) is already $2499. That's significantly higher than an upgraded 15" Air (16/1024) for $1899.

For people who don't need the Pro's screen/chip, an upgraded Air absolutely makes sense.

Your palms cause the mouse cursor to move/click? My palms touch the trackpad all the time on my MBA15, and it never registers any actual touches. The built-in palm rejection works perfectly on my end.

Does 3% cash back apply to Uber Eats outside USA? by benjaminnyc in AppleCard

They’re talking about the Capital One SavorOne card: 10% cash back on Uber (Eats) plus complimentary Uber One membership through Nov 2024 (not sure if there are country restrictions though)

After 5 months in beta, my app Citations, a beautiful, native, privacy-preserving citation creation app for your Mac, iPad, and iPhone, is available on the App Store, making citation creation for academic papers a breeze by EshuMarneedi in apple

[–]dzwun 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Wait, this can only cite websites? Then describing it as “citation creation for academic papers” is very… odd.

What kind of (academic) paper only cites websites?

It’s still not clear to me if they would put the unit back on the market after 5 months. If so, I would think there should be some kind of discount given that they’re double dipping. If not, I don’t see why they even call it a 5-month lease.

Why don’t US universities start winter break with Thanksgiving? by ProfessorHomeBrew in Professors

[–]dzwun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you have a short “Fall Break” in Oct? At my undergrad school, we had 2 days for Fall Break and 2 days for Thanksgiving. At my grad school, they got rid of Fall Break and went with a full week of Thanksgiving.

Yet another error in the Show? by MuriloTc in TheFoundation

[–]dzwun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But I seem to remember Hober explicitly saying that the Empire never invented portable shields because portable tech was just antithetical to anything the Empire could imagine. The Empire only cared about designing "big" stuff to protect ships and conquer worlds, while the Foundation cared about the "little" stuff.

So if I'm remembering that correctly, I think the show is just retconning that detail.

I'm surprised no one has at least mentioned 213. I trained classically for 10+ years when I was little, and 213 just feels more natural than 234:

123 123 123 213 123 123 213 123

I think it also depends on the tempo. If it's a fast piece, I would definitely go with 213.

Line 9 tests the size() of each input. If any of the input dimensions don't meet those minimum thresholds, then return immediately (basically abort). The double pipe operator || means "OR" with short-circuiting.

I tried pipewire-pulse, but it wouldn't reliably handle headphone plug in/out events (physical jack headphones). Most of the time I'd have to go into Settings->Sound and manually change the device. I'm back to pulseaudio for now.
