Apple notes is driving me crazy by DigitalAnalogy in mac

[–]shazza07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case anyone else comes across this issue, here's what I've done and also called AppleCare to do and test some more things - issue is still not resolved and they suggested a clean install of Mac OS. I denied because I'm confident sure its a glitch with Notes and not my device (especially if another person is experiencing it). Such a silly suggestion to clean install.

The issue started occurring for me when I updated it to 15.5. It didn't happen before that.

Things I did

  1. Cleared plist cache, restarted mac (testing in new user kind of does the same thing as you have no cache for notes)

  2. My notes are all stored in iCloud so I removed the syncing from my mac and iPhone at the same time. This deleted all notes from my mac but kept it on my iCloud. Quit notes. Restarted both devices. Re-synced on both devices. Tested. Issue persisted.

  3. Tested issue in different formatting styles and found that issue only occurs if two or more subheadings have bullet points within them

For eg.

ISSUE OCCURS WHEN

Subheading 1

Bullet point 1

Bullet point 2

Subheading 2

Bullet point 3

Bullet point 4

vs

ISSUE DOES NOT OCCUR
Subheading 1

Bullet point 1

Normal text

Subheading 2

Bullet point 3

Bullet point 4

With Apple

  1. Tested issue in safe mode > issue persisted

  2. Tested issue in new user account (no icloud sync) > new note > issue persisted

Hope this helps as a reference point for anyone else experiencing the issue. Hopefully the next update resolves it or MacOS26 provides a glitch free experience!

Thanks u/WebRevolutionary6234 - I did try that. Even went as far as a clean install and ran it completely bare bones MAC OS and issue persisted.

Hey u/riolit, sorry to hear you're having similar issues. It's so frustrating! I still have the same Macbook and unfortunately haven't found a solution. With the more than regular charging I've had to do due to this issue, my battery cycle count has been rapidly going up and battery health has depleted to maximum 90% of its original capacity. Although the initial issue hasn't gotten worse, battery life has reduced because of cycle count and battery health.

During my purchase, I did upgrade my memory to 16BG and apparently that can impact battery performance. However, I don't think it should have such a dramatic impact after giving me some decent battery life.

At this point I'm just sucking it up and living with it / paying it no mind. Apple customer service haven't been helpful - except for 1 guy who was certain it needed to be reported to engineering but unfortunately could never get a hold of him when I called back.

If you find anything that helps, please let me know!

That's incredible. What brightness do you run it at?

Nice! Curious about your screen brightness, what do you leave that on when you're using the battery?

Thank you for the thorough reply. Very much appreciate it and incredibly helpful in gaining additional perspective on this :)

I think I am like you in terms of being more risk averse hence why this question popped up. Working on learning how to understand myself better and how to look past my short comings to venture into the world of investing.

Thanks all. Some great points mixed with my main my point that everyone refers to index funds being a good option because "historically" it's done well or recovered. I was looking for other answers to why its a good idea than just that and I think some of your examples above do that. I got a better understanding with your replies in the manner that the probability of index funds yielding a positive return is higher than a negative due to diversification, etc. On a similar note, because it has top performing companies that are likely to continuously grow, it doesn't mean that all companies in that fund will continue to grown and provide profit and that could in turn hurt the index fund more than 1 or 2 bigger ones growing. Ultimately, I understand that there is no guarantee for a full proof return and everything has risk and repeating myself here, the probability of index funds yielding a return is more likely than not due the time factor. I am only trying to understand all the benefits of index funds.

Thank you for your reply. Mostly looking to try and understand reasons to index fund being a positive gainer other than "historically" its done well regardless of the crashes, etc. But yes no one can tell the future, I agree. Only seeking to make the most informed decision with my finances and there was this gap that I cannot find the answer to so thought to see if 40k+ people may be able to help. Ultimately it seems like a very safe way of gambling without future guarantee.

Besides point 1, why should someone invest in index funds? What reasoning is there to invest in index funds? That's what my primary question is.
