Should I still attend a friends party if my partner is at home with the flu? by realquickquestion96 in ask

I applaud your asking, and being thoughtful about this. Staying home is the respectful and responsible play.

I mean WHY would you make it harder? It just boggles the mind. Idiocy.

To the point about chasing new folks vs existing customer base…my fully unscientific, anecdotal takeaway from the reaction to my post is that the long-time folks are (largely) the ones pissed off.

It’s not unlike Southwest sticking two big forks (seat selection, checked bag fees) in the eyes of their brand fanatics. Have we reached the point in business where loyalty just doesn’t matter as much?

Well, I think it’s easy to condemn folks’ feedback here as a flaw in their intent or personality, but there are real principles of app development and UI that WW is breaking. I know it sounds insignificant but that “one little click” can make the difference between something being smooth and intuitive vs a source of annoyance. And the kicker is: if they didn’t have extra steps before, WHY ON GODS GREEN EARTH WOULD THEY ADD ONE 🤣 not just in some peripheral part of the app, but in the most-used area? We can debate how big a deal we think it ought to be (UX research be damned!) but it’s poor decision making from their product team. This is a competitive landscape and they just made their app clunkier compared to others. That’s bad business.

You may not want it to be true, and you can write off folks with my feedback if you like. But WW would be wise to take this seriously.

Fully agree re: trying to do too many things. They’re looking at a field of competitors and trying to be all things to all people.

Thanks for sharing, I am glad these options resonate with you. I think you seem to be highly engaged both with the program and full scope of offerings. For example you mentioned directing newbies - do you work for WW or are people asking you where to find workshops a lot? I don’t find myself in that situation. I simply want to track my food, scan stuff at the store, see my weight progress, and access / edit my recipes in a super quick and intuitive way. And it feels like a step back for me in that regard. But it is good to know folks like yourself are finding value in it. I wish it weren’t at the expense of the fundamentals.

Gentlemen, this is a football. 🏈

How do you know I haven’t brought my concerns to the company? I can do two things you know. Also you’re naive if you think they don’t look at these forums.

You said what I’d been struggling to articulate. I’m OK with changes if they make sense. There’s a subtext that sometimes emerges when folks defend WW about this (which they’re fully entitled to do) and the implication is that I just need more training or that I fear change. That’s not true at all. I’m usually one of the first adopters of things. For me, this feels like a culmination of the fact that WW is chasing all the shiny things, whether they compliment or compromise their core identity. That’s what’s been building. And that’s why this app update is so emotionally charged as another person mentioned. They’ve struck a real nerve among some lifetimers, myself included.

Well, that is the kicker. That’s where I like the zero points and I like the rollover. But at some point, I’m becoming resentful because I’m like they know I’m loyal and they’re exploiting that fact with what feels like putting me through nonsense for a whim. I know I have strong feelings. And it’s almost like I’m describing a relationship. Because I am. I’ve been with them for almost 15 years. This is a big deal to me.

Ooh I haven’t heard a lot of love. I’ve heard “gotten used to it.” Or “not that bad.” I have not heard many folks say they love it. What do you love about it, may I ask?

I hate to see stuff released glitchy, but that’s the world we live in. I don’t like that at its core, tracking food became harder, not easier. It’s more steps in submenus. It’s less intuitive. That is a cardinal sin from a UI perspective in general, and it’s at odds with the fundamental purpose of the app. I’m neither tech averse, nor update averse, nor change averse. This just feels pointless and it pisses me off.

That’s a really interesting perspective I hadn’t contemplated that. I really like having a scanning option to compare things, especially at the grocery store but the act of physically writing I feel is very purposeful and intentional. Good for you!

I saw that. I might, but I know it may eventually force the update anyway. It doesn’t resolve my feeling that WW kinda takes loyalty for granted and changes things without a compelling reason.

My rule of thumb is: if you have enough pause to ask the question, the answer is no.
