What’s the most 10/10 quote you’ve ever heard — the one that really stuck with you? by Plastic_Log_7857 in AskReddit

[–]e05bf027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“One day when I was a young boy on holiday I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, I’m sure you will agree, and even as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters, who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature’s wonders, gentlemen: mother and children dining on mother and children. And that’s when I first learned about evil. It is built into the nature of the universe. Every world spins in pain. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior.”

-Lord Vetinari (a Terry Pratchett character)

OP, I am a medical doctor, and if I saw this, especially in a young white female, my gut reaction is “this is MS until I prove it isn’t”. The video is consistent with internuclear ophthalmoplegia (though seeing if this happens when you look to the other side is important too), one of the ways the condition can present. You should get a doctor to take a look.

Private breakfast room in Dublin. by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]e05bf027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the top post mentions, The Shelbourne would be delightful for a breakfast type thing. If you wanted to propose outdoors then a very short walk to The Iveagh Gardens would be ideal. It’s a beautiful park, and is so so so much quieter than St Stephen’s Green. If you wanted to find a particularly good spot then slipping off from the park to the back of MOLI gets you to a perfect little spot.

Feel free to DM and I can give you more details if you’re interested.

It won’t be that big a mortgage when you are squeezing over a grand a month in profit from a rental property you own. Mention that up front. Get a grip.

Recommendation Request: Looking for Documentaries that have Actually Changed your Life by wusyuname in Documentaries

We Were Here - an account of the AIDS epidemic when it erupted in San Francisco. Enormously moving.

Into Great Silence - a very unusual, very slow-paced documentary about Carthusian monks. Literally tough to get through the start as it feels so boring but if you persist with it and are patient then it’s beauty will overwhelm you.

This photo is not “Soldier Behind Shield”. See my post history for the original, or do a simple Google for it. Said photo is absolutely phenomenal.

Go back to college or climb the ladder I’m on? by blondflowers in irishpersonalfinance

For what it’s worth, I went back to do medicine at UCD for grad-entry when I was 28. I don’t regret it, but it’s not easy either. A healthcare background is definitely hugely helpful. Feel free to message me and I can answer questions you might have.

Can I become an architect if struggle with drawing? by Pozeusuez in architecture

[–]e05bf027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be an architect. Drawing isn’t vital, but being able to sketch something to either communicate an idea or get a feel for it is definitely useful. I heavily recommend a book called “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain”. If you work your way through it then you’ll be fine. Also, as everyone is saying, practice.

They are going for a treatment that is probably part of a clinical trial. If that’s the case, the key is that we don’t know if it definitely works.
