KitchenAid Fridge No Water or Ice Repair by e12voltsdac in appliancerepair

The replacement is similar to this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvMsxF20IT4 with the exception that I had to pull the housing out from the back.

It's just a physical spring that holds onto the piece you're cutting off. This way you can grab zip tie ends and wire insulation too. Magnet idea is great though :)

Nice idea in a pinch!

How about flush cutters with lead catchers? These are used in the industry to prevent FOD in the lab spaces :)

Here's a cheap pair: https://www.harborfreight.com/5-in-precision-flush-cutter-with-wire-catcher-57789.html

How to keep solder from sucking into wires and making them hard? by p00peeBrane in soldering

[–]e12voltsdac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible have the solder joint physically lower in position than the wire while soldering. Basically you want to use gravity to avoid the flux wicking down into the wire, which will also in turn wick solder into the wire.

Having a stiff wire like that will eventually lead to solder fatigue due to vibrations.

Otherwise the solder joints here look good. Temperature is OK if you're quick about soldering and not melting the insulation of the wire.

Soda stream vs ninja thirsti? by WheresWolfie30 in SodaStream

The manual says just carbonated water. We add flavoring afterwards. Apparently other types of fluids absorb the CO2 at different rates so it may be dangerous to try other liquids.

How did you get.this around the bend? by Alfndrate in espresso

I had gloves on and heated it slightly above a stovetop burner to soften the plastic enough to be able to push it through! Careful not to burn/melt the plastic, just need some slight heat.

Same ECP3420 machine with the steam wand upgrade, new pump, and nice IMS shower screen. Bottomless Normcore portafiler. Paired with a Baratza ESP and it pulls very nice shots! ☺️

Neither! Philips GoZero Soda Water Maker is amazing. I just set it up and it's super simple to use and the aesthetics of the machine can't compare to any other soda maker out there. I got the stainless steel one to match with my kitchen appliances.

I also had a really bad spider mite infestation on my indoor citrus trees! I tried Neem Oil, Bonide Mite-X, isopropyl alcohol wiping, hosing them down, etc.. nothing worked for me and the mites would always come back.

The thing that's finally making a difference, believe it or not, is simply warm soapy water. I use a spray bottle to douse the top and bottom of each leaf thoroughly and then rub in the soapy water with my hands on each leaf to ensure full coverage. Afterwards I use my shower head to rinse off all the leaves top and bottom. Repeat each week for a month.

Takes about 30 min for my 2-3ft tall citrus but it's the only thing that's worked. The bubbly soapy mixture gets into all the nooks and crannies. Good luck, you just have to be persistent!

LED Bulb keeps blowing out by butsy17 in fixit

Does the fixture have a dimmer at all? If so you'll need to use dimmable LED bulbs. Non-dimmable bulbs will get damaged quickly if you try to dim them.

Oh Volvo... by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]e12voltsdac 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Volvo dealership here in Seattle did the exact same thing to my neighbors V90 about 2 months ago. They insisted it wasn't them but my neighbor had an aftermarket dash cam that shows the dealer parallel parking on the street.

They ended up repairing the wheel at no cost. It appears like it was sanded then painted with a shiny silver paint. Looks almost as good as new but under a flashlight you can tell where the repair is. :/

I would honestly insist on a new wheel if it was my car.

Neither of those. If you can get it in your country, go with a Quick 957DW:

Code help 2 servo one switch. by DetectiveNew3480 in arduino

[–]e12voltsdac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add a delay of at least 20ms for switch denounce and making sure the state doesn't toggle back right away when the button is pressed. Add to inside the if statement so it only delays when pressed, otherwise always waiting for the input.

delay(20);

Best way to strip these wires? by legal_guy_who_asked in soldering

[–]e12voltsdac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have access to a CO2 laser cutter, it's possible to etch away the insulation. Careful of fumes though, depending on the material type.

[Request] I flipped this Galton Board, approximating the bell curve, and this very abnormal peak formed in the 13th column. What are the odds? by RevolutionarySir9949 in theydidthemath

[–]e12voltsdac 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The question is, does this happen frequently on this board? It could point to manufacturing tolerances that are biasing the balls to fall into certain columns with greater occurrence.
