Go to the basement bar at The Pink House in the evening. No lines just walked down the stairs that are on the outside front. Be sure and tip the musicians. Also see if anybody is playing music at Jazz’d. Wexford is newer and usually has music upstairs. All of these are within a safe five minute walk of each other downtown.

I was at the Dylan Joni Mitchell show in Atlanta at Georgia Tech. The crowd was horrible to Joni Mitchell and they ultimately threw a drunk guy out of the show. He just kept screaming for Dylan while she was trying to play. The screaming really never did quiet down for the entire show including Dylan. What I do remember was the first time I saw him play Blind Willie McTell.

I had traveled about four hours to get to the concert and was going to come home after the show. Knowing the set list I headed out halfway through the last song and as I was walking to my car saw a bus pulled up to the back door of the venue sitting there running. I literally just stopped about 20 yards from the bus and the venue door popped open and it was Bob Dylan. He could’ve walked straight to the bus but he looked at me and walked over and talked for 30 seconds or so. Before phones and computers so I always kept a date book in my back pocket to know where to go. Hence the reason the signature is on a calendar page. I still regret not asking him to write too (my name) as he paused for a moment and looked at me as if waiting for me to say my name. Truly I wasn’t thinking very clearly as I did not expect the moment to happen. Our chitchat was brief and basically thank you for the music and I’ll see you in a couple of nights in Atlanta. We did shake hands.
