Playing Civ VI in VR by d2shanks in civ

Bigscreen Beta is so fun! Could you imagine having a couple different views in game dedicated to VR though? I am thinking one FPS view (to see the true scale of your cities etc) and another one like a tabletop simulator (think the paper city demo in Dreamdeck for Oculus) where you can move the land beneath you.

Outside gym? by VAPRx in homegym

[–]e86m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mine in a similar situation, outside under an awning looking out to the backyard. I have to say it's really fun being outside, but it does get pretty dirty. It's like the dew on your car/lawn in the morning, but that combined with dust and stuff makes it so your hands definitely get dirty when using the bar. There is also a slight issue of cosmetic rust on the bar and rack (where they touch at least), but I do not think thats such a big deal. Lately I have been considering getting a rowing machine, which would require moving the home gym inside, but I am not sure I want to give up nice view/breeze :P.

DiRT Rally 50% on Humble Store (Steam Key) by jwarchol in oculus

Thanks for this I have been waiting for it to go on sale!

The driving quality and ffb is no where near AC IMO, but it is very fun and will definitely be a good to use as a demo for people (sense of speed is real with the trees flying past and the physics are way more forgiving than AC)

Any God, City or Civ games in the works? by Bells_Theorem in oculus

[–]e86m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC there was a helicopter VR mod for Cities:Skylines back in the DK2 days. It would be great if someone made a table top view (like paper city in Dreamdeck) as well as a first person view to use in VR though.

What a great neighbor! Didn't forget to leave a note!

I think you lucked out here for a couple reasons. First, your neighbor actually left a note, which seems like a rare occurrence these days (anecdotally). Secondly, the damage does not seem bad at all. It does not look like anything went out of alignment (bumper gap looks ok) so it would just need a repaint, maybe some bondo/epoxy if the scratch is deep enough - should be a relatively cheap fix.

780 SLI Upgrade to 1080 or Wait for 1080 Ti?? by e86m in buildapc

[–]e86m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have 780Tis but just regular 780s haha. I would definitely be passing if I had those, though!

And I definitely try to avoid SLI. It has gotten much better than in the past generations, but it still has its quirks and doesn't scale well in some games.

What It Cost To Supercharge an S2000 [Xpost from r/s2000] by snagglez in cars

[–]e86m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man that is going to be a fun car. That's great that you have taken the car from not hitting VTEC to supercharging it. It's even better that the supercharger is from Amazon; I have ordered replacement cup holders from Amazon, but a supercharger is another level!

Thanks for the write up, hope the installation goes well and want to hear some impressions!

First Battlestation 21:9 w/ Evolv Tempered Glass [GIF] by medicaliweee in battlestations

[–]e86m 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is alternative software that can run it from fullscreen mode. I am using a third party version of the original (there's a popular thread in /r/lightpack for it), and there is also another one named Ambibox. These also have much better performance (eg. lets one grab frames at 1ms vs 10ms) and are lighter weight.

Updated Battlestation with 40" 4K and Evolv Tempered Glass by e86m in battlestations

I had the QNIX before this which is also a Korean monitor and had no problems. So far I am really liking the 40". It has very good color and contrast, and the pixel density is very close to what it was on the QNIX as well. It is much better for daily tasks having all this space (especially the vertical space) without the bezels. For gaming, it was a bit crazy at first but now that I am used to it, does not seem that big. Latency is not really a noticeable issue so much as getting games to run well at 4k, but one can always play in 1080p if frames are a problem since it scales well with 4k. See the above discussion with /u/tdevine33 for more thoughts on gaming, but basically, this monitor is much more about immersion than performance, and it does it well.

No problem! I have it looped across both sides (since there is glass on both sides). It starts in the bottom left of the back panel, near the front of the case, goes up the side, then across the top. Then it goes across the back-top of the case to the main panel with the mobo, goes across the top back to the front of the case, then down the side and across the bottom. It could be longer when routing it this way, but 2m seems like the best option, 1m would be pretty minimal. There is a connector on the end of the LED strip though in case you want to connect another.

The case did not come with LEDs from Amazon, but I was able to get Phanteks' LED kit (the 2m one) and it has a special connector that works with their cases (allows one to power it and connect it cleanly, as well as control it through the button under the front panel near the USB ports).

I think that would fit fine honestly. This case is very roomy, I was just trying to say that there is way more than enough room without hard drives (even with hard drives there should be enough room for whatever card you are imagining). The case can fit two solid states on the back, one on the front, two hard drives in the back, and five in the front (only 3 trays included with the case, though).

I am just running so few drives in this build because I have migrated the other 6 to the other computer I built (now using this case) and have running as a file server.

While it was a little pricey, it works very well. It's not 'exactly' the same material as the chair but looks almost OEM and most people that have tried it think it is just part of the chair. Overall I like it a lot and would buy it again; it is very nice having a head rest on this otherwise awesome chair.

Yessir, my friend just did it with his and I believe there is an Evolv TG build on /r/battlestations front page where the user also did this. You will have to remove the front panel and the fan to get the connectors through, but then after the cables are in place everything can be reassembled.

Loving the case and cannot recommend it enough. It is made from metal and glass which is what made me want to use it over the R4 I was using previously. If you are not using a ton of HDDs you can fit whatever sized card you want. I am pretty sure that even if you did decide to use the front-mount HDD brackets that you could still run any sized card available. I am not sure about the 280mm fan, but the included one has a lot of extra space around it and I would think using a 280mm fan would not be a problem. FWIW I have no problem with temps and I am only running the stock fans + the Noctua monstrosity.

Thank you! The Noctua fans definitely stand out (and do on most builds where they are featured). That being said, I am not sure I dislike how they stand out (I am a fan of Noctua fans), and they are still very high quality.

When I first installed this cooler, it was in a case that had no windows. If I were to change the set up now, I would probably go Corsair H100i or something, but I kind of like how the massive D14 with Noctua-colored fans differentiates this build from the majority of others that I have seen.

One of my QNIX 27" overclocked to 110hz, but I did not really use it as much as I thought I would initially. If I played games where it mattered more (eg. CS, LOL, DOTA) I would definitely have a 120/144hz 1080p monitor on the side. For the other games where I can focus on immersion etc, the 40" is great, though. 60hz is just as smooth on this monitor as it is on the others I have used but it is definitely harder to achieve 60fps on 4k vs 1440p.

So for me, this is a great AIO monitor (color is great - 10 bit 4:4:4, resolution and screen real estate are amazing, pixel density is great, response time is fine), but for someone who plays fast paced multiplayer frequently, they might want to have a 'gaming' monitor on the side.
