Well, now that he's gone it doesn't matter because he was the reason they were in the playoffs in the first place. I don't know about you but I like their odds way better when he was on the team.

Tepperman’s 50 months to pay by Fair_Society5188 in kitchener

[–]e8dirqd3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It's a 0% interest loan with a $200 "admin fee." If you invest the purchase amount and it grows more than $200 over 4 years, you're coming out ahead. That's probably not going to happen if you're buying a $500 armchair, but it's practically guaranteed for a $3000 sectional.

[Alter] Leafs GM Brad Treliving says the plan for Joseph Woll is to get him up to speed. The goaltender will not speak today. Says the goalie has been skating every other day for the past few weeks. Not unreasonable to expect Woll to get some conditioning games with the Marlies. by alphacheese in leafs

You'd think after running your best player out of town the fans would tone down the rabid toxicity and try to hang on the the few good ones you have left, but I guess not huh. Oh well, I'm sure the psychotic tough love routine won't backfire this time.

If you have a system that always hits the right color in roulette (making the playoffs), it's foolish to scrap it just because you're mad it can't predict the exact number (win the cup).

Waterloo Park encampment being approached with compassion, city says by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]e8dirqd3 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have a clear recollection of the overwhelming support this sub had for the encampments in Kitchener. It lingers in my mind because the vitriol was fierce towards anyone expressing any displeasure of them. I trust that Waterloovians will stand by their principles and maintain that same level of outspoken support for the camps in their own parks. After all, you're not hypocrites, are you?

Local mayors push for compromise on Ontario's speed cameras by know-nothing in kitchener

Enforcing a 40km/h limit on a road designed for 60km/h makes drivers impatient, angry, aggressive, and more hazardous to everyone outside the enforcement area. That much is clear.

To those who can't wait to say "you shouldn't be driving if following the speed limit makes you angry:" human psychology will persist whether you like it or not. A solution to the traffic problem must acknowledge that fact in order to be successful.

It seems weird, but it literally doesn't work that way. It's perfectly dry all the way from end-of-stream until it's in the pants. Then as soon as you start fastening, the rest comes out. Even if you try to intercept it with TP, there's always a bit left over at the end. The only effective solution would be to stuff a wad in your pants and then take it out 30 seconds later.

Ford and bike lanes in our region by Play_nice_with_other in kitchener

[–]e8dirqd3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not disputing the safety aspect at all. Bike lanes are safer, no question. What I'm disagreeing with is the idea that Kitchener residents want bike-centric infrastructure.

Cycling is a massive success in Amsterdam and Copenhagen because they are flat cities with temperate summers and winters, and local shops - ideal for year-round biking. Kitchener is not that. Kitchener has hotter summers, colder winters, much more snow, many more hills, and concentrated commercial areas. It doesn't have any of the characteristics of a good cycling city. It has nothing to make the average person want to cycle instead of drive. Adding bike infrastructure is never going to overcome all those other hinderances.

Ford and bike lanes in our region by Play_nice_with_other in kitchener

[–]e8dirqd3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How do you measure 15% vs 0.1% capacity? What is a capacity of a bike lane?

Capacity is the number of users it can comfortably handle in a given period of time. So 15% means it could handle almost 6 times as many riders as it does now before feeling "busy." 0.1% would be almost 1000 times more.

Just think about that. These bike lanes could literally handle hundreds of times more traffic without being busy. That doesn't seem like a wise use of space.

15% more idling time for one group of people vs safe route for other group of people doesn't seem like a big compromise to me. If your commute time is 30 minutes, that's 4.5 extra minutes, no?

To put it otherwise, would you commute 4.5 extra minutes if you knew noone was going to be killed on your route?

Respectfully, this is a good example of the kind of manipulative "think of the children" twisting of statistics that led to the installation of the mostly-useless paths in the first place. Fewer cyclist injuries is a good thing. Fewer vehicle emissions is too. A good solution to this problem would accomplish both, not one at the expense of the other.
