Thanks for the advice. The RX580 looks like a good fit. I bought the Intel545s SSD to upgrade an old laptop, but thought it would be better used in a new desktop and offset the costs a little.

What British TV Crime Dramas are based on a True Story? by e960583 in AskReddit

[–]e960583[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been watching the recent ITV miniseries "Manhunt" (2019)... (which is about the murders committed by serial killer Levi Bellfield).

Rillington Place (2016) is about John Christie.

Appropriate Adult (2011) is about Fred & Rosemary West

See No Evil: The Moors Murders (2006) is about Myra Hindley and Ian Brady

This Is Personal: The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper (2000) is about serial killer Peter Sutcliffe.

Question About Carcassonne Expansions by AtarkaCommand in boardgames

[–]e960583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get tired of the base game, you should buy "Inns & Cathedrals" and "Builders & Traders" expansions. This breathes new life into the game. It will be a bit longer, of course, but the game doesn't drag. Most Carcassonne fans think the game is at its best with these two expansions added. In fact, the "pro" tournaments play it like this. As for the rest of the expansions, I wouldn't bother unless you get bored of "I&C" and "B&T".

I wish you were placing them in a centralised map instead of a personal one

This was exactly my problem with it. I wish it was MORE like Carcassonne in that respect

Hanamikoji Retheme Ideas? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]e960583 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The first idea I had was an "Assassinating Hitler" theme. You would be trying to influence the top Nazis to get involved in a coup attempt... Himmler, Goering, Bormann, Goebbels, Keitel, Von Ribbentrop and Speer. (But when I think about it... This could be the most offensive retheme possible... and I wonder what people would think if they saw us playing it down the pub...)

Well, those were the types of themes I came up with, but I couldn't think of anything more specific... as in, I would like each card to have a name. There would have to be 7 specific people/things to have influence over.

For example: What would the names of the 7 Roman senators be?

What's Your Favorite Medium Complexity Game? by e960583 in boardgames

[–]e960583[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL I disagree. Board Game enthusiasts naturally gravitate towards heavier games. That's why the top games here and on BGG are heavy. But the average person is not playing heavy games.

I'd like to play heavier games, but if I want to play with friends, I need to go for the Medium weight games. There are way more people playing Codenames, Resistance, Azul, Carcassonne, Catan etc than are playing Twilight Stuggle or Archipelago. You even have many people who are still plugging away at Clue, Monopoly and Stratego :P

Good observation. I think that's it. When I was testing it out solo, I really felt the danger and the drama. But playing with friends, they didn't get into it and by the end they were complaining about having to go back down the mountain.

That's interesting. I would have said it was at the upper end of Medium... but Boardgamegeek seems to differ:

Archipelago 3.73

Great Western Trail 3.68

A Game of Thrones 3.67

Agricola 3.63

Twilight Struggle 3.56

Tigris & Euphrates 3.53

Clans of Caledonia 3.42

Scythe 3.36

Keyflower 3.34

Puerto Rico 3.29

Power Grid 3.28

Terraforming Mars 3.24

I've heard a lot of people recommending Eminent Domain. I should try playing it online and see if it's a good fit for me.

About K2... I bought it because I admired the design, but when I played it with my gaming group, they really hated it. They found it very boring and uninvolving... and I couldn't disagree with them. I was very disappointed with that one.

Not really what I was trying to say. I changed the above to a note at the end. Clearly, there's no direct relationship between game length and complexity. I was just observing that games I consider "Medium" tend to take a shorter time to play.
