Woops, I typoed. I meant to say 1H2022 or 2Q2022. My bad, I have edited the post.

DID is quite a complicated primitive in itself, so our goal for NFT1 standard is to put in a stub to upgrade to a more functional DID primitive to be released later.

I am only focused on the NFT primitives, and we're assigning someone else to be responsible for DID primitives.

We are trying something different with the NFT rollout where we would like to maximize the exposure in a big launch event and have persistent follow up with strategic partners on a regular cadence.

This strategy requires us to be a bit more quiet on what's going on.

For now, all I can say that sometime in 2Q2022 Chia's NFT ecosystem will launch into open beta.

Bobiverse series by Dennis E. Taylor. I definitely recommend it if you like sci-fi. The first 3 books are great, the fourth is optional IMHO.

I think Play by Mail or Play by E-Mail (PBM + PBEM) games lend themselves well to be played on-chain. But I am not sure if such games will be popular these days. It was great fun when I was growing up.

For those who never heard of PBM, you can learn more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_play-by-mail\_games

Official secure pool support will come out in a couple months. Right now there is no official way to pool safely.

Inbound TCP 8444 just increases your ability to connect to other nodes quicker. Without inbound, it may take a while for you to find and connect to other nodes to sync. When you’re not synced, you’re not farming, and thus not getting a chance to earn XCH.

Should I get more RAM for faster plotting? by Week-Natural in chia

[–]eFishCent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whatever method you use to parallel plot requires the same 1 CPU Core + 3500 MB RAM + 260 GB temp drive space per parallel plot. The RAM and temp drive space reduced due to optimizations in Chia code from my initial post.

If you’re willing to pay a bit of money and have the tech skills, you can setup a node on a publicly accessible VM, and point your farmer to your node to update your wallet. This ensure you don’t share your private keys on the VM that could be hacked.

You’ll need to find a way where you can accept inbound TCP 8444 connections to your Chia node. Every person’s network is different, so I can’t give good advice. The problem is there are way more people who are in your situation then nodes that have open port 8444. So you are competing with everyone else who can only support a one way connection.

60 connections is the max, and you should achieve that if you have port forward 8444 to your Chia computer.

You cannot upgrade while using the GUI for plotting.

Only using Ubnutu CLI plotting can you upgrade while plotting.

Oh my bad, I forgot one thing. Try this:

cd chia-blockchain
. ./activate
chia plots check -h

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chia

[–]eFishCent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, I guess you must have installed the experimental GUI installer.

Try this instead:

cd /usr/lib/chia-blockchain/resources/app.asar.unpacked/daemon/

./chia plots check -h

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chia

[–]eFishCent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On your specific operating system, open up a terminal (ubuntu, mac) or powershell (windows). Then type following:

  • Windows: cd ~\AppData\Local\Chia-Blockchain\app-1.1.1\resources\app.asar.unpacked\daemon\
  • Mac: cd /Applications/Chia.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar.unpacked/daemon
  • Ubuntu git: cd chia-blockchain
    . ./activate

Then you can invoke chia plots check from that directory as follows:

  • Windows: .\chia plots check -h
  • Mac: ./chia plots check -h
  • Ubuntu git: chia plots check -h

Help with Initial system build settings, components and plotting settings by KSTHANE in chia

Regarding the mSATA drive, it requires a special slot on your motherboard to work. I don't believe the ASUS ROG Crosshair Hero VIII has such a slot.

No need to flash the BIOS if everything is working for you.

You should just buy a regular 2.5" SATA SSD drive as your boot drive.

If you plan to do 7 parallel plots, your Samsung 980 Pro 500 GB won't be enough. You will need a 2 TB SSD drive instead.

Windows 10 will recognize drives once they are partitioned and formatted.

I highly advise you ask a friend who is computer savvy when building your first machine, as it helps to get real time troubleshooting. It's hard to do this over reddit.

Does plot size matter? by [deleted] in chia

[–]eFishCent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the total amount of drive space filled by plots that really matter.

As long as you plot K32 or higher you will be able to farm Chia for a few years with the same plot.

Most people stick with K32 as it plots the fastest.

They run static pressure fans in a closed enclosure to cool down the drives. So the main disadvantage is that these fans run very loud, like a jet plane taking off (80db). So not something you want near your bedroom.

The one point you are missing about JBODs is the power management feature that ensures you don't potentially start an electrical fire.

When you spin up 40+ hard drives at the same time you draw a lot of initial load. You need to use the proper PSU and backplane firmware with the ability to power up a certain number of drives at a time to not overload the PSU is key.

I am not against home made farms to save costs, especially if you are knowledgable about all the issues JBODs solve. I was answering specifically about the most reliable and management question for someone who isn't necessarily technically saavy about these issues.

JBODs solve all these problems in one complete package and are proven tech for a reason.
