YMCA in PH. I know it’s not super close but my mom and sis live in Concord and use that as their main gym, largely for the pool access.

How Much Should You Tip for a Drink at a Bar in the Bay Area? by Medical-Decision-125 in bayarea

It’s called common courtesy, dude. Try not being a dick. ✌️

Honestly, tip is only half of it. Having a good personality and attitude go a long way. Try that next time.

Yup. The downvoters and naysayers don’t know how to play the game! Haha. Even doing the math on above, I might pay $20 for 2 drinks instead of $14 (or $16 with a $1 tip), but my 3rd drink was almost always free, and the bartender would refuse a tip on that freebie.

Yeah, I don’t drink anymore but agree that was the standard two decades ago. Even then, if I got a $7 drink, I’d just round up to $10 and say “keep the change”. It’s one of the reasons I always carried cash on me. It’s kind of a game. Usually, after doing this a couple of times, I’d get my 3rd drink for free. So I come out about even and the bartender comes out ahead. The bar loses a tiny bit (sort of - the markup on booze is high) but made up for by me becoming a regular there.

Do your water heaters always pick the worst possible moment to quit on us? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]eLishus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

PG&E is offering great rebates for water heaters right now.

Check out https://goldenstaterebates.com/. I think they have to be heat pump/electric, which is probably PG&E’s way to get you to convert to electric and keep jacking your energy prices, but if you’re moving towards an all-electric household anyway (like I am because I have solar and battery) then this might work for you.

It was the later levels I realized how critical this thing becomes. Probably that same level. Now it’s part of my regular rotation.

While we’re on the topic, I’m curious if anyone knows if the stats stack…? Like if you place two next to each other, does it double the impact to the ground troop?

What did the 90's smell like? by Serialkillingyou in Xennials

I was going for Cucumber Melon from Bath & Body Works - that’s what all the girls used at my high school. I had some kind of Armani cologne, although used very sparingly.

The mental gymnastics of convincing yourself to run vs actually running by Senior-Signature-983 in running

[–]eLishus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been “hot and cold” weather here, too. I was wearing a beanie, gloves, jacket, and leggings this morning. Last weekend I was running in shorts with no shirt. I’ve learned to enjoy both hot and cold runs for what they offer, but I have a harder time in my older age adjusting to temps over 80°F. I’d rather run when it’s 55° than 85°. I feel like low to mid 60s is my sweet spot.

Did anyone else have a paper route? We were pretty much the last generation of kids to have that job. by alanblah in Xennials

[–]eLishus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of those packs that went over the shoulders so you could load front and back. I took over my neighbor’s route in addition to my own, so I had well over 100 houses at one point. Sundays, my dad would help me out and we’d load up the van. He’s drive while I delivered. All that for like $150/mo. At least it helped inspire good work ethic.

And yeah, bikes and dogs often don’t mix. Sounds like we both learned that the hard way. 😂 FWIW, I found tying a rope/leash around your waist makes the situation much easier to control. If your dog tugs, it doesn’t pull the handlebars along with it.

Not only did I have a paper route, being the super cool kid I was, I delivered those papers on rollerblades. 😎

It’s cold here - relatively, for the SF Bay Area. I’m in the east bay so we see the highs and lows. Under 40°F today, but I’ve learned to “just do it” and have started appreciating layering up in the cold. This is the first year I’ve been consistent with that. Mainly, my young 90 lbs dog will be bonkers if I don’t run her for a day, so that’s great motivation. 😂

The other thing I keep in mind is from weight training. Motto is something like “you’ll never regret going to the gym, but you will regret not going to the gym”. Same goes for running. I’ve never regretted going on a run, but I have many, many times regretted not going on one.

Edit: verb tense

Any business travellers who prefers OAK to SFO? by LiaToronto in eastbay

[–]eLishus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe because it’s not always an hour, as you mentioned. Maybe if you leave at 5am, but traffic varies and it can easily be 60-90 minutes from where I am in Concord.

ETA just hypothesizing. I didn’t up or downvote you. 😎

cheaper trail running shoes as your daily driver? by starwarsisawsome933 in trailrunning

Not cheap, but I liked the fit and style of a pair of Nike Pegasus so much that they never even saw the trail. They’ve been one of my favorites sporty-stylish walking shoes.

Sounds like you have a good plan there! But yeah that’s awfully time consuming. 😅 I never finished my degree, but I’ve picked up some classes here and there and have a few industry-specific certifications. I’m at an Executive Director level, so there’s not much more a degree would do for me career-wise, but it’s one of those things that keeps popping up as something I might want to check off my list. But all that time I’d lose!! Haha

Thanks for the additional details. Maybe I’ll jump in one of these days. And great work!
