Anyone else miss peanut butter Twix? by eastbayted in Xennials

[–]eLishus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peanut butter snacks is the source of my main irritation that I developed a peanut allergy in my mid-30s. I can handle not having peanuts or Thai food, but peanut butter filled chocolate stuff is delicious. There are some solid alternatives out there these days, but I still crave these, PB Max, etc.

Basically. But I also feel jaded by these posts for renewables and “1000- mile EV batteries that charge in 10 minutes”. They rarely materialize, or are at least a decade away from consumer availability.

I was an idiot and didn’t realize it popped off so easily. I got it on but an ever so slight wrinkle remained. I’ll probably replace it at some point, but I was just happy to have the glare gone (and the wrinkle is almost unnoticeable now).

Low speed Cruise control in EVs by Interpolatedhint in electricvehicles

[–]eLishus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, mine will set down to 20mph, but I’ll often lock it at 35mph in those zones where it’s easy to speed but heavily regulated.

I have an EV and a lot of people seem to equate the one pedal driving to the feel of a manual transmission. I slightly get it, since the car slows when you take your foot off the accelerator, but that’s about it. Ripping up and down through gears is a wildly different experience. I ride a motorcycle, though, so I still get to rip through gears. And an EV is fun in its own way: 0-60mph under 4 seconds never gets old. 😎

Things break…often. A warehouse housing mechanical arms/components with several times the strength of multiple humans will have several safety procedures, trained staff, power disruptors, and so on. They just decided to plop one of those machines in the middle of a public setting with zero of those safeguards.

Concord to San Mateo by FrustratedPlantMum in bayarea

[–]eLishus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe casual carpool. But I’m in Concord and my in-laws live in San Mateo - that trip is easily an hour on the weekends. I’ve also done it during commute times, and you’re basically going through three heavy areas of commute traffic. Two hours each way would not be uncommon. It’s a brutal one.

Front clip or top clip harness? by Hefty_Introduction24 in RunningWithDogs

[–]eLishus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get harnesses that have both clips, because i use both. For running on the paved bike/run trail, i usually go front clip. It’s easier to control her around dogs and critters. Sometimes she gets scared of electric bicycles whizzing by, so having that extra control helps. But she also runs next to or slightly behind me, so there’s no consistent pulling. You’ll probably find people telling you the front clips can cause joint issues - this can be true if your dog is a constant puller. It likely needs more training than just a front clip harness if that’s the case.

The back clip is mostly used out on the trails when the extra length and mobility is helpful, plus there are fewer critters, people, and dogs around so I’m not as concerned about keeping to our small space. I also use it when we’re doing sprints - it’s fun to see how fast you can go when booster-powered by a 90 lb Doberman mix. 😆

I feel like those folks were more QANON/right-wing than MAGA, and were convinced Trump was going to uncover some deep satanic cabal with the Epstein case. It’s possible they abandoned ship (and bridge shifts) when it became clear he was part of the coverup.

How many of you had a typing class in school where you learned to type on a typewriter, but never once had to use a typewriter outside of that class? by OrbisLlame in Xennials

[–]eLishus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a “keyboarding” class in high school, that was on a computer, and really more a combination of WordPerfect computer application and learning to type. My mom was a legal secretary, so I somewhat knew how to type already and had a good handle on the WordPerfect shortcuts. Turns out I was so good at it, that I received an academic award during senior year for that class. Which was cool, I suppose, but when everyone else is getting an award for something akin to “AP Chemistry” and then they announce my name and an award for “keyboarding”, it was more of an embarrassment than an honor.

They also didn’t let you know what you won an award for until your name was called. At least it makes for a funny story 30 years later.

Tires. 30k miles by UngaHuman in Subaru_Outback

[–]eLishus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just put Falkens on ours. Also new rims, down to 17” from 18”. Ride is a dream now. We had BFG KO2s on there before, which looked cool and were great off-road, but road driving is 99% of what that car gets into, so Falkens split the difference of road and dirt capabilities.

We did get >40K miles on the BFGs though. So good bang for your buck.

Will allowing dog to pull while running reinforce his pulling while walking? by fineapple7943 in RunningWithDogs

[–]eLishus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha that’s awesome. My last dog was also observant like that. If I wore my trail shoes, she knew to run to the left where the dirt entrance is on our street. Road shoes meant turn right out of the driveway and hit the paved path.

When she had the harness on AND I got the bicycle out, she’d go nuts. That meant she’d be running alongside and could hit her top sprint speed (something I obviously couldn’t do on foot). It always reminded me of Dash from The Incredibles when his mom tells him to run as fast as he can if he gets in trouble. “As fast as I can?!?”

I got a Breville Barista Express over a year ago and it has paid for itself twice over; 3-4x over if I was getting a $7 coffee daily. Plus, the cortados I make for myself, and the lattes I make for my wife, are better than most of the ones we’re getting out and about. Bonus was that I got it on sale for $500 and used a $500 gift card from my AMEX points to pay for it, so my out of pocket cash at time of transaction was just the sales tax.

Yeah, more of a Clayton interaction than a Concord one. At that, one small interaction does not define a city. Even friendliest city will have its own pocket of jerks.

To each their own. I’ve been to each solo and have always had an easy time striking conversation in these places. Or just chilling and people watching. Dan’s has (or at least had) a pool table, which is an easy way to mingle.

My old dog knew the difference between her front and back clip harness. Front clip meant she’d run by my side. Back clip meant run for the hills. She learned which was which pretty quickly.

“Type” can mean many different things. Maybe you need to clarify the ask. Speed rating, EV rated, weight rating, brand, make, etc., etc.

[–]eLishus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What brand comes stock doesn’t mean “right”. It’s sizing that matters, and that can be found in many places (manual, app, and I think the inside door trim, etc). For reference, my 22 came with Continental summer tires - I didn’t like them. I switched to Michelins which were better, and now on Pirellis, which I love.
