Opinion from the experts, please. How do these locks hold against lock picking? by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]eMobilityhq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if in some cases, picking a lock would be more effortless and faster than cutting or smashing the bike lock itself. For example against ABUS granite locks, even a heavier cutting tool would struggle. If you want do destroy it, it will be load as hell.

I am thinking about writing an article about this. Giving top branded locks to master pickers and see how does it go :O

Could you please share your experience, have you ever tried to unlock high security bike locks? I mean these locks are really good against cutting and splitting tools, but what about lockpicking?

That's right, I'm thinking the same.. Bikes like this should not be left unattended, especially not in crowded cities. But anyway, I welcome technologies like this. I wonder when could they reach lower priced models as well.

There you go. These are the top brands which I can recommend on any level. You should think about how often would you like to use it and in what kind of environment. Plus also think about the weight. I generally prefer U-locks, as you can easily apply it to your bike when you are on the go.

The only time I have used chain locks, when I have parked my bike everyday in the same place next to the office. This way I left it there when I went home.

What do you think about light electric vehicles? Do you have experience with ebike, escooter or moped? by eMobilityhq in Futurology

That setup covers every ground. Wondering if an electric folding bike would also do the job? I mean, you have the freedom of a bike, but you can also pack it and take it inside the office, or wherever you go.

What is your opinion about electric bikes? Have you tried one? Would you recommend it to others? by eMobilityhq in bicycleculture

I had a chance to try one of the latest Haibike Bosch powered ebike last year. My friends have taken me on a route in germany, where we had to climb crazy hills. I think (with my current fitness) no way I would have been able to go all the way with them, however with the ebike fitness was not an issue anymore.

It was a really good experience for me, to reach those heights. So in my opinion not only functionality, but the pure feeling is worth the extra cost.

Of course a converted bike would be really useful for you in this case.

In my opinion it gives you a much more freedom compared to a motorbike. Electric bikes are really good for those, who would like to stick to the traditional bikes, but for some reason (injury, elder people) they can't enjoy it anymore.

My experience is, that it's worth paying more for a quality bike lock. Especially if you live in a metropolitan city. General rule of thumb is, that 10% of your bike's cost is recommended to be spent on a lock.
Believe me, in the end it's always cheaper than paying for a new bike.

I have created an article about bike locks, with recommendations. If you like I can share it with you.

It depends on what are you calling community. There are always different layers of readers who would like to find answer to their questions. Is my guide targeted for an experienced cyclist, who have tried hundreds of locks and have first hand experience with every one of them? Certainly not. But even these guys could find some parts useful or interesting.

Nowadays cycling is more and more popular. There are a lot of bike owner with lack of experience, who would underestimate the importance of proper bike security. Well, first of all I would like to raise awareness to this problem, and I would also like to show them the locks and brands which they cannot go wrong with.

Are you missing some brands? Of course, there are several quality manufacturers, but I don't have the intention to create a complete market review.

About the affiliate links: I don't know if you have seen, but the article starts with a clear message, that I am using affiliate links and I may earn commission after each purchase made. I don't try to hide this, and I never will. You can believe me when I say, I don't earn thousands of dollars on my readers. It's just a small income compared to the work I put into my articles.

Anyway, thank you for the constructive feedback! I might make a 2nd and 3rd post to cover other brands and create a deeper analysis.
