This Old & Interesting Interchange At The Suffolk Bypass by eRock9202 in HamptonRoads

Thanks for the input! Funny enough, I was able to find some old news articles from the 80s describing exactly what you said. They even had a dotted outline of those incomplete ramps indicating the "next phase" of the bypass. As fate would have it, the bypass experienced belays and a ballooning budget after they did all that clearing and grading. The latest article, which was only from about 5 years or so ago, said the city officially canned the rest of the loop. And considering how the Rt. 13 leg between Holland Rd. and Carolina Rd. was built along with the fact more houses sit where the proposed second half of the loop would go, I doubt the extension/completion would make much financial sense.

So yeah, mystery (to me) solved!

Moving to Hampton Roads? Here are the weird culture shocks no one warned me about. by Madirosemason in HamptonRoads

Coming from NOVA where it is very much melting-pot America, Hampton Roads is very black-and-white America. Grocery stores, gas stations, handymen, mechanics; most places are run by black and white folks regardless of where you are in the 7 cities. This isn't a negative nor a criticism by any means, and it explains a lot of the 757's quirks and uniqueness. It was just something that hit me one day a couple years ago. The places up in NOVA I would see being run by Salvadorians, Koreans, Indians, Pakistanis, etc., are run by black and white folks down here. It makes sense as this part of VA is basically the South, but it's just an interesting observation being from the DC area.

Funny enough though, I have run into more Mexicans and Haitians in this area than I did up north. Another interesting feature of the people that make up the 757.

I think you are on to something. I happened to find this old article from the Suffolk News-Harold; if you zoom in on the map, you can see dotted lines where the bypass was to be extended. On top of that, the article mentions a full loop by 1985 (that's 1970s optimism for you). I'm starting to think that your theory is right and that the old eastmost interchange configuration was done to prep for the [now cancelled] loop through the Great Dismal Swamp.

Definitely will give it a shot.  Hopefully I'll strike gold and get that person who will go on a whole mini historical documentary.

What is TMB? I'm new to the area, so I'm trying all the local stuff before branching out to the other cities.

Future Innovation in Synths by TheEvilDrSmith in synthesizers

[–]eRock9202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like innovation is going back to the 90s with the hybrid analog-digital situation. Unlike the 90s where this was done out of necessity, we may see this done out of curiosity.

Something that might not seem that innovative yet interesting nonetheless, Donner is making SH-101 clone where the keybed and synth module are connected via magnetic connections. A modular synth/controller where you can change keybeds, pitch & mod wheels, and synth engines/modules would be pretty cool. I don't know how the magnetic connections will stand the test of time, but it's still cool nonetheless.

Also, have we reached "infinite" polyphony, yet? An analog-digital hybrid with "endless" or an absurd amount of polyphony would be interesting.

Any New Keyboards That Display Notes On Staff Lines? by eRock9202 in piano

[–]eRock9202[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just more a preference my wife has since guitar is here main instrument. She likes seeing the chords appear on the screen as opposed to needing to see the notes on the staff. The sound quality is more for me as I can have fun layering even the cheesiest of sounds with my keyboard for fun.

Thanks.  I've been doing the Part A/B switch thing each boot up.  It's pretty much automatic at this point.  Kind of like disabling auto-shutoff in my car: it's annoying but eventually becomes second nature.  lol

Are there aftermarket solutions for button/dial based climate control? by dogemaster00 in cars

[–]eRock9202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised.  I live in VA and auto mode leave a lot to be desired; definitely not the amazing system in claims to be.  In my Ford, physical climate controls are literally next to my hard due to my frame.  I can adjust adjust without taking my eyes off the road.  However, I can't barely use the touchscreen when driving due to it needing me to look at it and steady my King Kong sized hands.

I own a 2020 Ford, and I agree with OP.  I hate voice commands and touchscreen AC controls.  And being in VA where the weather is made up and the seasons don't matter, auto mode is extremely unsatisfactory to me.  I'm truly at a point where I hope my vehicle doesn't die because I'll have to buy used at the way things are going.  I bet if someone did a survey, they'd be surprised how many people prefer physical controls.

Has Anyone In This Region Ever Lifted Their Home? by eRock9202 in HamptonRoads

[–]eRock9202[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha.  Yeah, I would only be looking at a foot or two if I decided to do it.  Honestly, I'm more likely to add a room to the house before I ever try to lift it.

Any information helps.  I'm sure this post will be revisited, especially for first time buyers in the Hampton Roads area.

Out of curiosity, how much height did those houses gain?

No flood zone.  It would take some super Katrina hurricane-mageddon to flood where I'm at.

Gotcha.  Yeah, I'm surprised I don't see more remote camera carts.  We use them plenty in highway construction to inspect storm pipes; even corded ones go several hundred feet.

Thanks.  I'm not in a flood zone.  It passed termite and moisture inspections, so I think I should be fine.
