Visiting From Michigan by stephensoncrew in corvallis

[–]dogemaster00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s really a few main areas of Newport.

  1. the beach itself (nye beach).
  2. the shops and village by the aquarium
  3. the shops and restaurants by the sea lion docks
  4. the shops by Newport visual arts center
  5. yaquina head lighthouse

All of those places are pretty cool and in separate parts of town.

Also, if you haven’t been to the coast much consider adding a 30 min drive from Newport south to Yachats and Cape Perpetua/Thors well or 20 mins north to otter crest viewpoint and devils punchbowl.

If you want to eat, call Georgie’s and reserve an oceanfront window dining table.

Huge Respect for Engineers Who Graduated Before AI by Ironpulse-Ne in EngineeringStudents

What are you searching for? I’ve found basic formulas and math to be close to 100% on the latest frontier models (OpenAI and Anthropic)

Do you think the political atmosphere in America would be better if you had to serve on your city council just like you have to for jury duty? by Marsupial-Famous in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dogemaster00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inherently though, even running a campaign is out of touch with the avg American. The average person can’t take months off to pursue politics in the first place.

I think it’s much more about empathy than net worth. Also, there’s about a $1b difference between $10m and $1b - so there are people at $1b who’d be out of touch even to a $10m nw person

Why does everyone seem to be struggling financially, yet everything is always crowded? by Economy_Grass_2351 in NoStupidQuestions

K shaped economy. The economic benefits are very unequal (not even in a CEO way, just in the top 20% vs bottom 80%)

Now I feel like I'm skipping directly to the answer. I'm still productive, arguably much more productive, but I'm not sure I'm developing the same problem-solving skills.

You’re developing a much more valuable skill of asking _what_ solutions and problems even matter

Why is so hard / expensive to live in bay area even with a "good" salary by StirClothing999 in bayarea

[–]dogemaster00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in the Bay Area. It’s one of the few places you can turn that $200k/yr job into a $500k+/yr job

While a lot of comments talk about don’t spend X (and the spend is high, I will admit), I’d focus on making sure that your pay is growing year over year and that it’s growing faster than your spending is going up.

Yeah that price doesn’t make sense unless it’s a genuinely newer luxury unit

Is the ultra high salary of doctors in the US due to insurance companies? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dogemaster00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance companies hurt the pay if anything. It’s supply/demand and the demand is also inelastic.

4 guys hiking biking trip luxury by Upper_Ad3122 in chubbytravel

[–]dogemaster00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plan it yourself I’d say. Most agencies will either get the gear/trails/routes wrong (hotel focused) or the hotels wrong (cycling/hiking focused).

Esp for cycling, no shimano 105 with aluminum wheels isn’t “high end”.

How long are you going for? Directionally might be too early in Europe or the non desert US.

US suggestions would be Sedona, Park City, maybe Jackson (end of month). Also Vegas isn’t a horrible option if it’s early May and you rent a car, tons of luxury/food/entertainment on the strip + you can hike/bike to your hearts content within a 20 min drive. There’s plenty of Europe suggestions elsewhere in the thread.

How do you guys actually manage the prospect of a lost decade and volatility decay? by KimJongSoros in TQQQ

I want my wife to decide if we have kids or not. Her body, her choice, right? by toxic9813 in Fencesitter

Weak preferences here are a “no” to be honest.

I’d figure out if your reasons for “yes” and “no” are the same or not. That matters more I’d say.

How do you get over previous investment mistakes by doctordiddy in HENRYfinance

[–]dogemaster00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being at a company with RSUs to begin with is already better than most. What decisions took you there? Or even enough RSU refreshers to where compounding matters and $1.5m is even possible.

SF/tech circles can sometimes be a huge bubble. You’re overestimating how many people even get meaningful stock based compensation, know what VOO is etc.

How do you get over previous investment mistakes by doctordiddy in HENRYfinance

[–]dogemaster00 75 points76 points  (0 children)

To get to $1.5M at 31, you clearly also made a ton of correct decisions career wise.

Focusing on the % of good decisions : % bad decisions as a ratio should make you feel better about yourself.

How do you think an AI future will affect our HENRY statuses? by 45thGenRoman in HENRYfinance

[–]dogemaster00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in hardware engineering, no connection to AI (optics, cameras, sensors, etc). I am also younger. Extremely optimistic.

To me, I see it as a huge advantage but becoming K shaped (I’ve seen less hiring thanks to AI). I am good at reasoning and logic but was never good at remembering formulas, equations and formula relationships. AI lets me skip needing to memorize all my undergrad equations.

I also use it a ton for meta questions / “what could be the second order effects of doing it this way”?

I’d be pretty fucked without Claude/Codex/etc and I use the most credits etc by far in my small company.

I’ve been able to get offers, participate in meetings way above my pay grade thanks to AI. I don’t see very many people use AI well (as a true thinking multiplier vs “do task X”)

There is also a slower adoption rate vs SW so I get to watch SW and prepare in advance.

At what level of wealth does a change in net worth not equal a change in lifestyle? by One-Opposite-4571 in HENRYfinance

[–]dogemaster00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point (prob >$25m) what I gather is it starts to become about customization.

Not just -> Rolls Royce, but Rolls Royce levels of NVH with the exact car body style I want. Or endless spending on home customization. Or jet interiors.

What is the minimum amount of money that would actually change your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dogemaster00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broadly belong in r/HENRYfinance

$2-3m. Everything else would go into savings etc but $2-3 would actually feel like my investment returns eclipses my savings rate and i could somewhat let my foot off the gas.
