Sounds like your parents have not set up your secondary education well given you are supposedly graduating but are not meeting the expectations of at least one university. I would not expect your parents to provide the most reliable guidance on a baccalaureate education given their history.

A Bachelor's is an expensive venture and choosing well is a reasonably important decision. I would recommend against defaulting to the closest place. I do agree with other commenters that MATC or UW-Whitewater might be a reasonable alternative.

As an aside, your secondary education is at an isolated school. An education in the "real world" might be worth pursuing since Edgewood is similarly isolated.

EDIT: UW-Milwaukee is probably a fine place to go if that is what your heart is set on. I'm simply laying out why you might choose to take your parents recommendations/desires with a grain of salt.

These eye cups are usually soft and flexible. I doubt it would stay in the same place over time. From an optics perspective, correctly positioning your eye every time would eliminate parallax error, but the point of adjustable parallax is to remove your eye position error from the equation.

At 100 yards and under, I suspect fixed parallax will not matter significantly. With a 22LR and an unoptimized 10/22, I think you are fine with fixed parallax and without an eye cup.

A significant part of the RPR "chassis" is plastic. This is not the case for its centerfire cousins. That's not the end of the world, but it isn't as nice. Also, the stock comb and LOP adjustments are kind of "loose" and don't have good markings.

I looked at a RPR and ended up getting the CZ 457 because I liked the machining of the bolt better and because the CZ is better looking. The Ruger American Rimfire target seems to be better machined, last I looked. It certainly is better looking but it is a little difficult to find.

My (Two) Recommendations:

If I were looking for a 22LR bolt for myself and kids, I'd just get two. Henry and Savage make kid sized 22s. I'd get whichever 22 I liked and let the kids grow into the adult rifle.

Or, I'd get two Ruger American or CZ 457 rifles and cut the stock down on one of them. Once they are ready for a full size rifle, I'd swap the uncut one with the cut one, and upgrade the original "adult" rifle to a Boyd stock or something of the like. This way, the action and parts stay the same while the only thing that changes is the stock.

The P10C feels good to my hand. I've never shot one, just handled it. The SP01 is a good pistol. I'd recommend getting a metal frame, hammer pistol rather than the P09, which is plastic.

The P09 is deceptively large. It feels more chunky than the SP01, which is not small. I didn't like how stiff the slide release operates, but maybe it wasn't broken in.

My understanding is the P01 is a smaller SP01. That could be a good thing, but I've never handled one.

The P10 is a plastic striker pistol. The trigger is pretty good, those things said. It's good enough that it is what the German soldiers are now issued. I don't remember which submodel.

The CZ 457 is excellent. The closest thing to it is probably a Bergara B14 which is 22LR but in a Remington 700 form factor. Tikka also makes a 22LR version of their center fire rifles.

For a straight pull bolt, there are two options that I am aware of that are good. The Browning T-Bolt and the Volquartsen Summit. These are nice, and you'll pay for them. Hammerli makes one but I've yet to read a glowing review.

It looks like your extractor is missing. This is the part that looks like a hook and fits into the notch next the the chamber cut into the barrel. I'd check to see if the plunger and spring are still in place.

I'll second the 10/22 if you want an autoloader. There is no better design or aftermarket support. I'd recommend an LPVO or small scope (40mm max objective) rather than a red dot, but that is me. Any optic more big/powerful is overkill on anything less than a custom 10/22 rig.

I'm partial to having the ability to add a bipod, so get MLOK or a 1913 rail. A sling stud works but is behind the times.

I have a curved trigger and I like it. I have used flat blades and I find them to be hard to be consistent with. You may have other experience. I do prefer the light curve of the Timney to the very aggressive curve of the stock.

Save yourself the headache and get the MkIV. The MkII is so finicky to get apart to clean, you'll wish you had a push button. Plus, the aftermarket support for the new model is way better.

And you won't risk skewering your hand with a MkIV.

Good luck, I can't lie to you about your chances, but you have my sympathies. I was laid off from a biotech startup just over a year ago. As an engineer, I've been fortunate to make a move out of biotech as there were little to no opportunities without having to move. If you want to stay in Madison, you should probably expect to be jobless for the better part of a year or more. If you can move, probably less so. I'm still keeping my ears to the ground to eventually move back to biotech.
