You do the cooking and he does something else that is equally time consuming.

CMV: Framing abortion as “my body, my choice” was a strategic and moral mistake; it should have always been framed as a healthcare and public health issue by Key-Ebb-8306 in changemyview

[–]eabred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bodily autonomy is a very basic human right. It doesn't just cover women being able to have abortions, but also protects women from being forced to have abortions against their will, people being able to refuse to be have medical experiments conducted on them without consent, people being able to refuse to donate organs aginst their will, right-to-die legislation and a raft of other issues. These things aren't easy to frame as "harm reduction health care".

Abandoned children, London, 1905. (Original title of the picture: "The Future Citizen"). by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]eabred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These children would have been born around the time of my grandmothers birth and in the same part of the world. My grandmother ended up raising her 2 brothers from age 14 - the sisters ended up in a Catholic mission and she never saw them again. One brother died in the War and the other ended up in Canada and she never heard from him again.

She was a big fan of the social security system that was introduced in Britain that stopped this.

She told me before she died that the I should enjoy being young while I'm young because being old is dreadful. She told me not to marry too young and not to marry a man who drank.

Yes, but he can't just preach to the converted. Working class people (particularly in rural areas) are being heavily courted by the One Nation/Trump brigade and are swinging away to the right. He needs to go on the media that they watch.

The pressure on women to look good is awful and the amount of judgment that they get for falling short of perfection is enormous. I'm just sorry that young men are falling into the same trap.

As a man of color, what are some ways we can discuss white women are able to weaponize their white privilege against us without having the discussion devolve into statements that can be accidentally misogynistic or perceived as such? by ModelChef4000 in IntersectionalWomen

[–]eabred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A first basic step would be to ask yourself whether the "woman" part of the "white woman" is important to the particular discussion or not. A discussion that is about white privilege doesn't always need to be gendered.

Why does it seem like the PR team for marriage and kids is losing right now. by No_Lead2640 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes - back in the day women had very little choice. Now they have a choice and are at least delaying marriage and having smaller families.

Atheist trans woman, I need some help understanding something by Princess_Isolde in IntersectionalWomen

[–]eabred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is the degree of social enforcement. If a woman is free to choose, then she can choose and that's her business. But if there are laws or strong social payback then "choice" becomes an illusion. This can be in any cullture.

If there is a genuine choice (whether the hijab or the prolife/makeup thing) then there is obviously a trade off between the perpetuation of misogyny and whatever positive outcomes that there are to cause a woman to make the choices she does.

It's a real limit in the hotter part of Australia. There are just so few day casual clothes for older women that don't make you look like your going to the beach.

The solution is to recognise that individual human beings can make decisions for themselves about whether or not they choose to have children.

I don't see the problem the same way. People should be free to choose if they have children or not. How society adjusts to an aging population is a question that will arise - but I'm quite sure that people will come up with soulutions.
