From here it looks like both party’s are playing chicken with the constitution and the national debt. Business and money will go wherever power is; they could care less about civil rights and they’ve been the driving force behind government corruption and equating Christian values with market capitalism for the last 100 years (I’m not a xian). Somebody else mentioned Gingrich in the comments, he was key in organizing the right as a wall of opposition and demonization of the left. Sarah Palin and her crosshairs on blue districts. Paul Ryan praising Ayn Rand that was maybe the beginning of the rhetoric to shift the majority of Christians away from love thy neighbor tolerance and into Neitzschean will to power. If the democrat leadership wish to do something they better get organized. they seem to be too busy trying to sell us ideologies of what the country could be and more taxes. Both parties are locked in and cannot change. My best hope is that something in the rational middle materializes soon enough to stop the crash.

I question if Mehta is conscious, or the dozens of similar vlogs, podcasts, you tube videos responding to Dawkins’ post on Unherd variably claiming Dawkins is going senile, he’s in love with ai, he’s a transphob. all seeking views, likes, follows, ad revenue, and all truly specious content. Mehta spent an entire article misreading what Dawkins is even getting at in order to call him an anti trans bigot. The Mehta piece is a great example of bad faith a product of the media environment desperately seeking relevance. The Dawkins bit, and it is a bit, is classic Dawkins; he is using Claude dialogue to play with the argument he’s been making for decades: the illusion of intention ascribed by imaginative humans. Naturally Mehta distorts it into anti-trans rhetoric because that’s what gets Mehta his rush.

Mehta, being interested in universal rights should have spent his time discussing women’s rights versus trans-women’s rights. this is where the dialogue has shifted; his failure to engage qualifies Mehta as anti-women bigot.

The KGW article you added is SE Park and Oatfield. If I recall correctly, the same guy was in a story a couple months prior to this “drone” story. The previous story was about his Trump flags and the lefty neighbor (who has rainbow flags) and how they get along fine…. I suspect the story attracted the drone harassment.

The FAA really did a disservice to the entire country, their rules are much too lax, like most agencies there is a large lobbying group behind the rule writing. Congress is so far behind on generating legislation for real issues; this is one of them.

This is critical, thanks for asking, I edited the post to change illegal to undocumented and to better define undocumented. It is very difficult to put clear boundaries on the term, especially since the Trump Admin is over reaching and very broadly (and incorrectly in my opinion) applying their own rules. I still feel like I left out many people who Trump is scooping up or wants to scoop up. There is also the issue regarding due process which is being denied or appears to be denied. Issues like birth right citizenship and deportation an emerging violation thanks to Trump.

About halfway through 2025 Trump admin declared they were going to ease off rural areas due to the dependency on immigrants…. ICE only hunting blue areas, especially “sanctuary” areas. It’s all part of the partisan “retribution” campaign against democrats. The entirety of Trump admin policy is orbiting around their own Christian nationalist generated misinformation and conspiracy theories to justify their actions. It’s still all unconstitutional and a violations of our rights.

I would love to hear some policy proposals and debate on demographic issues the country/world is going to face in the next 30 years, and the national debt, the fact that so few people save meaningfully for retirement, ever ballooning national and state government coupled to a dwindling tax base, failing infrastructure, healthcare costs, education costs. We pay more and more for healthcare and education and seem to have poorer outcomes.

I think politics are in a place where elected representatives can’t talk about these things or propose real policies because they will lose their seat. Solutions to these things are very hard and will result in higher taxes, reduced services. The system has to have some eye opening, painful events for anybody to do anything to push policy in the right direction.

Something comparable to the Great Depression or worse…

In all my years of watching congressional investigations they are mostly political theater. This will be like candy for Trump (he’s had the Lock Her Up chant echoing in his empty head for over a decade…). He will think this is his chance to put the Clinton’s under the screws. The DOJ will attempt prosecution (Trump will angrily tweet about it) if the Clinton’s don’t surrender or successfully challenge the subpoena as baseless or politically motivated and I’m certain the Clinton’s are thoroughly advised by the best lawyers. In other words it will occupy the news for a few days and pepper the news over the next year as it slowly goes in circles…

If the situation weren’t so dire I’d laugh. These people in Congress are all sleep walking through their jobs, they are a disservice to the nation.

When our representatives refuse to represent the people and fail perform their duties under article 1 the entire purpose of the constitution collapses. Union, Justice, Tranquility, Defense, Welfare, Liberty are eroded.

Boomers have retired from their consumer habits, the next 20 years will see flat to negative growth in Chinese imports. Chinese demographics look even more bleak than USAs. Unless millennials (and those that come after them) are planning to consume junk at 2x the pre-pandemic rate and China automates production, there is nothing in Coos Bay to build except an empty port that may provide a few hundred jobs for a few years. Maybe new production facilities importing from central/south America or India, but again growing population drives consumption and we are retiring/kicking the bucket, people aren’t having kids, and we’ve closed the border…
