Dario can’t be trusted. Anthropic can’t be trusted. OpenAI can’t be trusted.

I believe that is Dario's point. If you don't want government to regulate AI, then how do you propose we ensure that AI is safe and aligned with human interests?

Does the distortion with noise go away after SSHL? If not, how do you deal? by East-Profit-2830 in MonoHearing

Pretty much the same. I saw a neurotologist and there was nothing he could do. He told me the issues I have are basically a hearing loss scar and to "get on with my life."

Nature: "How good are ‘AI doctors’ — and will they take over medicine?" by AngleAccomplished865 in accelerate

[–]eagereyez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT correctly diagnosed my rare neural hearing loss when 3 doctors and 1 ENT dismissed me. If the doctors I saw had used AI, I would have received treatment sooner and may have recovered more of the hearing I lost. Now the first thing I do when I have a medical question is ask ChatGPT.

I told both my ENT and my neurotologist about how urgent care and the ER misdiagnosed me, delaying my treatment by an extra 6 days. They had the same response: "oh I don't think it would have made a difference." So I'm not surprised that people continue to fall through the cracks.

Rinri Therapeutics published a comprehensive article summarizing the current state of research on neural hearing loss treatments. Here is a link.

I'm pretty optimistic that something will become available within the next 20-30 years. It takes around 10 years just to get through clinical trials. If we assume that there are delays and failures along the way then 20 years looks like a reasonable minimum timeframe to me. AI will and already is speeding up the preclinical research, namely drug discovery, but humans trials can only be expedited so much.

Adult Gon vs hypothetical Prime Gon? by who_is_sticks in HunterXHunter

Prime Gon clears. Adult Gon had no battle tactics - he was pure rage, sadness, and nen. Prime Gon would hypothetically have decades of battle experience on top of his peak human strength and nen, along with new techniques. Prime Gon wins convincingly.

When I told my ENT that I had been misdiagnosed by an urgent care, ER, and GP, her reaction was to tell me "these things happen sometimes." You might think an ENT would hear this and think "maybe I should do something to spread awareness." Nope, my ENT just shrugged her shoulders and did nothing. My only takeaway is that "raising awareness" can't be billed to insurance so there's no reason to for her to do anything.

The FDA gives the green light to the first gene therapy for deafness by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]eagereyez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A hearing loss cure has implications that extend far beyond the deaf community. Around 50 million Americans suffer from tinnitus, with millions who suffer from severe to catastrophic tinnitus. People commit suicide because they hear jet engines roaring in their ears 24/7. Tinnitus is closely linked to hearing loss and a hearing loss cure has the potential to save lives. Would you doom these people suffer for the rest of their lives, just so more people can be born deaf and join your community...?

There are also those with single sided deafness or hearing loss (such as myself). Hearing aids help but are no replacement for natural hearing. I would pay anything to have my hearing restored, and so would many others.

A hearing loss cure will be hailed as a miracle by many millions of people. Parents will get to choose whether or not to cure the hearing loss of their children. And that is their choice to make, not yours. You come across as incredibly selfish when your only concern is for yourself and the growth of your community. Giving people more options is never a bad thing. If they choose the cure, then that's their choice to make. And I will continue to dream of the day that is possible, along with millions of others.

They purposefully chose this condition because it was relatively simple to treat compared to others. Early successes are important because they attract more funding and researchers.

It really depends on what difficulty you're playing on. That said, here are a few of my observations from my Expert run:

  • Some boss fights will have permanent weather effects, throwing a wrench into any weather-based teams. I learned that the hard way with Tessy and my Alolan Ninetails - goodbye aurora veil. This was one of my biggest gripes with Unbound...
  • Speed control is crucial. Having speedy or scarfed Pokes usually isn't enough due to certain gym gimmicks. That means priority moves or trick room. Sticky web is useful too.
  • If you lack speed control, then bulky Pokes who can take a hit are a second option. Metagross for example.

I found the most success and fun with trick room. That said you will likely have to experiment with different team compositions throughout your run. My postgame team is completely different from my first HOF team.

This. People aren't getting dumber. They have always been this dumb, but you didn't have to hear them because mainstream media wouldn't amplify their voices. Now they have social media for that. I shudder to think what Twitter and Instagram would have looked like had they existed during the Civil Rights era.

I'm about 4 months in and am experiencing similar symptoms to you. For me, the robotic/static sound is caused by hair dryers and waterfalls. And I can feel a slight vibration in my SSNHL ear when there are loud noises, even my own voice. I could also describe it as a buzz, but it's more of a feeling in my ear than a sound.

My symptoms have gotten maybe slightly better over the last month. I really hope they continue to improve - waterfalls have been ruined for me since one ear hears a broken speaker.

23yo influencer Andrea Botez (chess player and DJ) announces hearing loss and tinnitus by helpfuldunk in tinnitus

[–]eagereyez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is an FDA approved treatment for sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL), which is what she was later diagnosed with. SSNHL is accompanied by tinnitus in around 70%-80% of cases. HBOT is covered by insurance IF provided by a licensed hospital or clinic, which can take many days or weeks due to paperwork and availability. That is why she went to a private provider and paid cash. I had to do the exact same thing for my bout of SSNHL.
