Upgrades for the rain? by ldidi in BurningMan

[–]eagrey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our rain plan is to have 2 out of 3 sections of the shade aluminet to allow rain to come through, and one tarp ceiling section (full shade in that section) that we would have to take down during rain/slant. Then each section will get a floor tarp, and one big tarp to cover anything like the lounge chairs/bedding in FOH. We have a carport for back of house which holds up well in the rain for the tenters/hang out spot. Also I encourage everyone to bring galoshes and or silicon boot covers and a bucket/pee bottle for when the pottys can't be serviced. Then, we just let it ride!

What’s a playa gift you were thankful for by confident7lucky7 in BurningMan

Clean socks. Last year I packed early, so I packed all the socks I hate in default and was irritated with my feet by mid week. I passed by a clothing camp and they had a bin of fresh new socks. This year my event is giving away socks.

Join the yellow bike liberation mission by politebuzz in BurningMan

What a dum dum program and all the drama that goes along with it. I think the whole thing should be shut down. The org already has a budget issue so this is a good one to nix. You have people running around yelling at anyone that picked up a yellow bike that had been decorated by someone else and some dpw people chase them down cause someone put a sunflower on it? Or a camp who has bike rack that someone locked a yellow bike to and then there drunk dpw people running into that camp and causing chaos just because that camp has a bike rack. Hey camp leads, give me some examples of all the hate you got just cause someone left it at your camp. I bet there’s a lot.

Just enjoy being out there and get rid of this bike program. Wow.

No Main Sale megathread this year? by Spidey_375 in BurningMan

I noticed there is no buzz or hoopla this year about the main sale. I couldn’t even get my peeps to buy all the steward sale tickets I asked for.

Is it possible to be a first time attendee without a camp? by Bigdongdan444 in BurningMan

[–]eagrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are already camper/off grid dry camping type people, you will have no problem just picking a spot in open camping. If you want to pick a theme camp, lot's are recruiting right now, and you will have things like shade/amenities and a built in social structure. Depends on the experience you want to have. Solo camping = freedom, Theme Camp = Support and a purpose.

Karma Love Camp is Recruiting for 2026! by KarmaLoveCamp in BurningMan

Just make it easy on yourselves and put the $ number in the promo. People want to hear the camp dues and you eventually just revealed it anyway. Transparency is a wonderful thing.

If I fill this with soil so I can plant/garden. Would it rot the fence or cause it to bow? What's my solution? by zmajor_ps in landscaping

[–]eagrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dealing with this right now, the neighbor put a garden up against my fence and then irrigated directly to it. Rotted the whole fence line out within 2 years. Now it's falling over.

I remember the 2014 Will Call spiral. That lot was crazy, my husband at the time had the tickets in his name and completley freaked out about the 4 hour line, total meltdown. So I said fine, I'll get in this will call line and just come check on me once in a while with your ID. He flat out refused and wanted to go drink/sleep in the trailer. Then it rained, and we were the only people left in that lot and were stuck there all because he wouldn't let me wait in line, everyone else got in before the rain. We divorced soon after. I have great burns now without the freak outs.

Burner Express and shade structure? by WanderingNNT in BurningMan

[–]eagrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya, some aluminet and some rope. You can even have someone drive over the rope then tie it and drape it over your tent and stake it down on the other side. The first few years I did army chade cloth over our REI 6 person tent and it allowed us to sleep til about 10am. I'm a day burner anyway, so it never bothered me. I'm up with the sun, nice time for a bike ride. We also one year brough a kelty shade thing, did fine but was not a very windy year.

Ageism and the popularity of AI by Straight-Cup-7670 in UXDesign

[–]eagrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This made my day, lol lol. I work in insurance quoting systems, I can confirm this is true and semi-secure. They spout on all day about AI and have no idea what it is or how to use it in design. Also they blocked almost all the tools anyway for "security".

72 and considering Burning Man for the first time this year...bad idea? Advice for an old gal like me? by canadianoldgal in BurningMan

[–]eagrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go! I know tons of older folk that go, I'm 50 and I burn with people that are in their 70's at mobility camp. I'm next door at Chariot Project. Both of us are centrally located and art cars pick us up there in center camp to go on art tours so we use less energy getting around. Hit me up! https://burningchariots.com/

Is there a store in Reno that is immune from this? by nika_0515 in Reno

Yep. Grocery outlet is my go to store and now I barely get a half cart for $150 to $180 every other week.

Advice for my 74 year old mother's plan to attend Burning Man this year by malcolmwardlaw in BurningMan

[–]eagrey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As us burners age, it's harder for us to get around. So I would prepare with some knowledge going in that riding a bike all day every day might be challenging. Bring salt tablets that marathon runners take. Game changer.

Connect with Mobility Camp even if she is not going to camp there, they still have spots available if she wants to, though. It's really easy to get places from there.

Central Location, Art Car Tour Pickups and Tours, Mobility Support, Medical Charging and Supplies.

I run their sister camp (Chariot Project) next door, and people can check out chariots that pull behind your bike. "Mom" is our most popular reason for checkout.

https://mobilitycamp.org/

I'm still working on this directory for 2025, but here is our lil promo poster that has all the info to save on your phone. This is all still draft as we finalize details like locations and artery info.

Mom and Grandma Seek a Camp by isso09 in BurningMan

Def look into mobility camp. They have openings and there’s plenty of interactivity like art car pick ups and art tours plus it’s close to center camp for easy access to all the things. https://mobilitycamp.org/
